Yamaha DD65 Description

The DD65 Yamaha electric drum kit means business. Intended for aspiring drummers, it brings together the feel and realism from acoustic drums with the versatility and portability of digital drum sets.

Each pad of this electric drum set can be programmed from a wide selection of percussion voices so that you can go from the most progressive electronic drum kit to a hard rock or classical one. It comes with two foot pedals and extra sensitive 8-pads which are angled for playing comfort. And the hand percussion mode is extremely realistic with accurate touch and a plethora of sounds.

You can also import Midi sounds via the USB-Interface.

You can connect other audio devices with the AUX-input and take advantage of the 2 5W on-board speakers to play along to backing tracks or songs! It is powered by the Yamaha adaptor provided (PA-5D, PA-150 or similar) or six C-size batteries for extra portability.

Record up to five of your performances and play them back through the drum set (there are also preset tracks recorded, but you're not going to pass them off as your own... are you?)

There is a headphone socket so that you can practice quietly and it can be changed over for left-handed players.

  • Eight touch sensitive drum pads plus two foot pedals
  • Connect CD, MD, or MP3 player to AUX IN jack, and play along with your favourite music
  • Wide variety of percussion sounds from all over the world
  • Flash ROM memory
  • Load MIDI songs from the internet via USB-MIDI interface, and play along
  • DD-65 is a digital drumkit with eight touch sensitive pads and two foot pedals. High quality drum samples and a wide variety of percussion sounds from all over the world are mixed with orchestral voices to provide a wide range of musical opportunities. AUX IN jack lets you connect an MP3 player and jam along with your favourite tracks.

8-pad digital drum system

Eight touch responsive drum pads allow for expressive drumming with hands or drumsticks. Each pad is velocity sensitive, so that all performance dynamics are perfectly reproduced. Playing can be as expressive as on an acoustic instrument.

Hand percussion mode

Hand percussion responds to the pressure of hands in an accurate way that sounds exactly like the real thing - great for those bongo and conga sessions!

Assignable percussion voices

A wide variety of percussion voices provide for a variety of percussion sounds, from rock to rap and beyond. The percussion voices can be assigned to each pad, to recreate classic drumkit sounds, or to create wild combinations of percussion instruments.

AUX IN Jack

This jack is for connection to an external audio source such as an MP3 player or CD. You can play the instrument with backing music and accompaniment, like playing with a full band.

Recording your Performances

Up to five of your performances can be saved to this instrument, and these songs can be played in the same manner as the preset songs.

Headphone jack & drum sticks

A headphone jack for drumming in private, and included drumsticks make it easy to get started quickly.

Fantastic set of mini drums
The DD65 is perfect for what I use it for. I use looping software to create songs that I play live drum tracks to. I have a small house and have been using similar drum sets for a long time for space/volume reasons. I had a digital drumset that was paired with an external sound module for fifteen years that finally died, so I set out to replace them. I wanted something that had internal sounds so I could minimize the amount of programming I had to do. As soon as I plugged this in, I was off and running. The pad set up is pretty natural for a drummer and the pads themselves have a bounce like a practice pad. The biggest issue is that the pedals that come with it are really just buttons and difficult to use, but I am sure I could have adjusted if I needed to. I use the electronic pedals from my old digital drum set, but if I didn't have them, I would have upgraded at some point. The built in speakers are not loud enough to cover sound from the "tapping" of the sticks on the pads, so I don't use them. I have a small pair of powered studio speakers and headphones, both of which provide plenty of volume to show off the surprisingly clear and realistic sound quality found inside the unit. I give the DD65 a five star rating based on how well it meets my needs, what I use it for, and the fact that it is better than I would have expected at this price level.
