The Mix control lets you control how much clean signal is blended in with the wet (delayed) signal (on the original unit, this was called Echo Volume). Tape Speed acts as a simulation of the RE-201’s tape motor speeding up and slowing down and determines how short or long the delay effect is. The Repeats control goes from a single repeat to many, reminiscent of a sound being written onto the tape loop with loss of fidelity each time. Finally, when the Flutter toggle is turned on (up position), it replicates the wear & tear to the mechanical parts of a tape machine that happens over time. Legends say that Duane Allman placed his fuzz pedal in the freezer between sessions to cool down the transistors, and that Roger Mayer meticulously modified Hendrix’s Fuzz Faces beyond recognition in search of an elusive, magical fuzz experience. Fortunately, even apart from these mythological methods, there’s one trick that always works: use a dying battery. Inherently simple devices like fuzz circuits are extremely sensitive to the amount of voltage that they receive, thus any change in the voltage from your power supply will cause drastically different tones. Guitarists eventually caught on to this hack and began draining their batteries to try and find the sweet spot for their fuzz pedal. A good idea in theory, but who has time for that? Then, just a few years ago, a certain unnamed guitarist reached out to me for a practical solution for this technique– and the Volture was born.

The Volture is a modern day device for your vintage fuzz circuitry. The Coyote doesn't originate from any of these classic topologies. The Coyote is a complete replication of the obscure and very difficult to find Moonrock Fuzz by G.S. Wyllie, a reclusive North Carolina builder who sandcast his own enclosures, etched his own boards, and designed a unique fuzz utilizing a transformer in an unconventional way that sounds like nothing else — the product of wild experimentation combined with solid electrical engineering fundamentals. Here's what makes it strange: the circuit has a transformer, but it's not doing what transformers do in other octave fuzzes. It's not creating the octave at all. Glenn put it somewhere else entirely, where it acts more like an inductive element, shaping how the fuzz stage responds and contributing to the swell, fuzz, and octave character of the control. We've never seen anyone do this. The result is a texture and feel that doesn't exist anywhere else. He never mass-produced them. He passed away in 2014, still building.
