1966 Rickenbacker 4005 in Fireglo, (Used, Comm)
The 1966 Rickenbacker 4005 Fireglo is a hollow-body electric bass that takes its inspiration from the company’s classic semi-hollow guitars, adapted into a long-scale format. It features a maple body with an offset double-cutaway shape, a bound top and back, and the distinctive cat’s-eye soundhole. Finished in Rickenbacker’s trademark Fireglo burst, it has a striking red-to-amber fade that highlights the curves of the body and is paired with a white slash-style pickguard for contrast.
The bass has a 33.5-inch scale length with a maple/walnut/maple neck and rosewood fingerboard, fitted with triangular pearl inlays and a bound neck. The headstock carries the signature cresting wave profile and matching Fireglo finish, completing the visual continuity of the instrument. Hardware includes the iconic “R” tailpiece and chrome-plated tuners, all consistent with Rickenbacker’s mid-1960s design language.
Electronics include a pair of Rickenbacker “toaster” single-coil pickups, delivering the bright yet full sound that the brand is known for. Controls are laid out in the traditional Rickenbacker format, with dual volume and tone knobs, as well as a blend knob and three-way selector switch, giving players wide tonal flexibility. The 1966 Fireglo 4005 combines Rickenbacker’s signature visual style with a unique hollow-body bass voice that stands apart from other instruments of its era.
