View full detailsThere is probably no more iconic design, than a Gibson Les Paul. The scratch plate, headstock and body shape are some of the most recognisable guitar features in the musical world. Due to their popularity, however, they also come with a hefty price tag which dissuades many collectors and fans of the Gibson brand. Fortunately, the used musical instrument market is filled with second hand Gibson guitars and with a legacy as illustrious as that of the American manufacturer, there’s always a quirky, one off, and interesting guitar to discover!
Many players are devoted to the traditional Gibson guitars from the 1960s, believing that their authentic sound is unmatched. This unique quality can be attributed to the specific wood used and the meticulous craftsmanship of that era, which included skilled artisans carefully handcrafting each instrument to perfection. The 1960s were a time of innovation and experimentation in guitar design, resulting in models that have become iconic in the music world. Gibson also experienced another golden age in the 1990s, where they revitalized their production techniques and reintroduced some classic models, combining modern technology with their renowned craftsmanship to appeal to a new generation of musicians.
Pre used pickups are one reason for a warmer tone. Guitars can have a breaking in period where they sound crisp and sharp. Gibson is known for having a warmer tone, due to their use of humbucker pickups, and therefore our second hand Gibson guitars produce a wonderfully unique tone that you won't hear on most new models.
As a market leader in musical instrument manufacture and design, Gibson regularly bring out new versions of their classic ranges; popular models such as Les Paul, SG, and Firebird have been in production for a while; certain model builds are not. The wood, design, and manufacturing methods have changed over time with variations of the same models. For instance, the Gibson Les Paul Standard 120th Anniversary 2014 and the Gibson Les Paul Traditional 2016 are the same model, but they will be built slightly differently. This means they likely play and sound different.
Gibson have some staples in the guitar community, the two most notable are the Gibson Les Paul, and The Gibson SG. Then there is the truly unique and impossible to replicate custom shop variations. The custom shop is exactly that, a customised version of a popular model. Gibson has had moments in its history where they were deemed the de facto choice of guitar, this was the 1960s, and the 1990s to early 2000s. Buying a brand-new Custom Shop guitar would be very difficult, however, they can be found on the second hand Gibson guitars market from resellers or verified musical retailers such as Fair Deal Music.
There are some truly wonderful guitars in circulation. Gibson have made a lot of musical instruments in their long history, and people love to collect them. Nothing is more appealing to a collector than something that is rare, or even one of a kind!
Some of the best guitarists in the world are renowned for playing the blues, or blues rock. Joe Bonamassa has played a large selection of Gibson guitars over the years, building up a grand collection. For the blues players, the tone and depth you get from a Gibson is unmatched.
