The Yamaha CLP-845WB Clavinova Digital Piano in White Birch combines a premium wooden-key keyboard, two world-class concert grand piano Voices and powerful two-way amplification with one of the most contemporary finishes in Yamaha's CLP-800 Series.

At the heart of the CLP-845 is Yamaha's 88-note GrandTouch-S keyboard with wooden white keys, synthetic ebony and ivory keytops and escapement. It provides a substantial, expressive playing experience designed to bring the pianist closer to the response of a quality acoustic instrument.

The piano sound is built around two exceptional concert grands: the magnificent Yamaha CFX and the distinctive Bösendorfer Imperial. Yamaha complements these sampled instruments with Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM) and Grand Expression Modeling, recreating both the complex resonances of an acoustic piano and the tonal changes created by differences in the pianist's touch.

The CLP-845 also makes a significant step forward in physical sound reproduction, using a powerful (45W + 45W) × 2 amplifier system driving dedicated 16cm and 8cm speakers with diffusers.

Finished in White Birch (WB), this version combines the CLP-845's substantial piano specification with a lighter wood-effect cabinet that can integrate beautifully into contemporary interiors.

QUICK PRODUCT SUMMARY

The Yamaha CLP-845WB is a premium 88-note Clavinova digital piano featuring Yamaha's GrandTouch-S keyboard with wooden white keys, CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial concert grand Voices, 256-note polyphony and powerful two-way amplification.

It is particularly well suited to developing and experienced pianists looking for a serious long-term home piano with the benefits of modern digital technology, including headphone practice, recording, Bluetooth connectivity, USB audio and Yamaha Smart Pianist integration.

The White Birch finish gives the CLP-845 a lighter, contemporary wood-effect appearance while retaining the same core piano specification as the other CLP-845 finishes.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT

The CLP-845 sits at a particularly attractive point in Yamaha's Clavinova range.

This is where the combination of wooden white keys and substantially upgraded two-way amplification becomes a major part of the instrument.

Those aren't secondary features.

They're fundamental to the experience of playing a piano.

The keyboard determines how your fingers interact with the instrument.

Yamaha's sound engine translates that movement into tone.

And the speaker system determines how convincingly that tone develops in the room.

The CLP-845 brings all three together in an elegant cabinet designed for serious home piano playing.

GRANDTOUCH-S KEYBOARD WITH WOODEN WHITE KEYS

The CLP-845 features Yamaha's GrandTouch-S keyboard with wooden white keys.

Yamaha uses its extensive acoustic-piano woodworking experience in the construction of these wooden keys, giving the pianist a reassuringly substantial connection with the instrument.

The action also incorporates:

• Synthetic ivory white-key surfaces

• Synthetic ebony black-key surfaces

• Escapement

• Carefully optimised hammer weighting

The textured key surfaces help provide secure contact under the fingers, while escapement recreates an element of the tactile sensation associated with an acoustic grand piano action.

SIX TOUCH SENSITIVITY SETTINGS

Keyboard response can be adjusted using:

• Hard 2

• Hard 1

• Medium

• Soft 1

• Soft 2

• Fixed

This allows the relationship between your physical touch and the resulting dynamics to be adjusted to suit your preference.

YAMAHA CFX CONCERT GRAND

The Yamaha CFX is Yamaha's flagship concert grand piano.

Its sampled Voice forms one of the foundations of the CLP-845's piano experience, providing a clear, powerful and expressive concert-grand character.

Combined with Yamaha's modelling technology, the CFX responds dynamically as notes interact, sustain and decay.

BÖSENDORFER IMPERIAL

The second flagship piano is the Bösendorfer Imperial.

Bösendorfer has been building pianos in Vienna since 1828 and is part of the Yamaha group.

Its character provides a genuine tonal alternative to the Yamaha CFX, giving the pianist a choice between two distinctive concert-grand personalities rather than simply different variations of the same piano.

BINAURAL SAMPLING

The CLP-845 supports binaural sampling for both the CFX Grand and Bösendorfer Voices.

This technology is particularly important for headphone practice.

Rather than making the piano appear to exist only inside your headphones, binaural reproduction creates a more spacious impression designed to resemble playing the instrument acoustically.

For anyone who regularly practises privately, it is one of the CLP-845's most valuable digital advantages.

VIRTUAL RESONANCE MODELING – VRM

A real acoustic piano is an interconnected resonating system.

Strings interact with other strings, the soundboard and the body of the instrument.

Yamaha's Virtual Resonance Modeling (VRM) digitally recreates these complex interactions.

As notes combine and pedals are used, the sound develops with greater richness and complexity.

GRAND EXPRESSION MODELING

Piano expression involves much more than simply playing loudly or softly.

How quickly and deeply a pianist interacts with the keys can alter the character of a note.

Grand Expression Modeling reproduces tonal variations created by these differences in touch, helping the CLP-845 respond more naturally to articulation and technique.

GRANDTOUCH PEDALS

The CLP-845 features Yamaha's GrandTouch pedal system with:

• Damper

• Sostenuto

• Soft

The damper supports half-pedalling, allowing much finer control over sustain than a basic on/off pedal.

GrandTouch pedals are also designed to reproduce the changing resistance associated with the pedals of a grand piano.

POWERFUL TWO-WAY SPEAKER SYSTEM

One of the defining upgrades of the CLP-845 is its substantial speaker system.

Yamaha uses:

(45W + 45W) × 2 amplification

driving:

(16cm with diffuser + 8cm with diffuser) × 2 speakers

The two-way configuration allows different frequency ranges to be reproduced by dedicated drivers.

This contributes to greater clarity, depth and presence across the piano's tonal range.

SPEAKER DIFFUSERS

Yamaha incorporates diffusers into the CLP-845 speaker system.

These help distribute the sound from the cabinet more naturally, contributing to a broader acoustic impression around the instrument.

38 VOICES

The CLP-845 provides 38 instrument Voices.

While piano is very much the focus, the additional Voices provide useful options for layering and splitting.

DUAL / LAYER MODE

Dual mode allows two Voices to sound simultaneously across the keyboard.

For example, piano can be layered with strings for a broader combined texture.

SPLIT MODE

Split mode divides the keyboard into separate left- and right-hand Voice regions.

DUO MODE

Duo divides the keyboard into two sections with equivalent pitch ranges.

This is particularly useful for:

• Piano lessons

• Teacher/student demonstrations

• Side-by-side practice

BUILT-IN RHYTHMS

The CLP-845 includes 20 Rhythms.

These provide straightforward rhythmic accompaniment for practice and informal playing without changing the instrument's fundamentally piano-focused design.

RECORD YOUR PERFORMANCE

The CLP-845 supports both MIDI and audio recording.

MIDI Recording

• Up to 250 Songs

• 16 tracks

• Approximately 500KB per Song

• Approximately 22,000 notes per Song

MIDI recording is useful for reviewing, developing and arranging performances.

USB Audio Recording

Audio can be recorded to a compatible USB flash drive in:

WAV – 44.1kHz / 16-bit stereo

with approximately 80 minutes maximum recording time per Song.

USB AUDIO INTERFACE

The CLP-845 can function as a 44.1kHz / 24-bit stereo USB audio interface.

This allows high-quality digital audio communication with compatible computers and devices for recording and music applications.

BLUETOOTH AUDIO & MIDI

The CLP-845 specification includes Bluetooth Audio and MIDI, with availability dependent on region.

Bluetooth Audio allows compatible music to be streamed through the piano's powerful speaker system.

Bluetooth MIDI provides wireless MIDI communication with compatible devices and applications.

SMART PIANIST

Yamaha's Smart Pianist app provides a visual interface for compatible Clavinova functions.

It can make selecting sounds, changing piano settings and accessing supported features straightforward from a compatible smartphone or tablet.

HEADPHONE PRACTICE

Two standard stereo headphone outputs allow private practice and enable two listeners to use headphones simultaneously.

Yamaha complements this with:

• CFX binaural sampling

• Bösendorfer binaural sampling

• Stereophonic Optimizer

This makes the CLP-845 particularly capable for pianists who frequently practise through headphones.

INTELLIGENT ACOUSTIC CONTROL

Intelligent Acoustic Control (IAC) automatically adjusts tonal balance at lower volume settings.

This helps preserve bass and treble detail when practising quietly.

FULL-DOT LCD DISPLAY

The CLP-845 uses a full-dot LCD display with dedicated physical controls.

This provides direct access to Voices, Songs, recording functions and instrument settings without requiring a separate smart device.

The Yamaha CLP-845WB is particularly well suited to:

• Intermediate pianists

• Advanced pianists

• Returning pianists

• Serious beginners wanting a long-term instrument

• Grade students

• Diploma-level study

• Piano teachers

• Families looking for a premium home piano

• Acoustic-piano players needing silent practice

• Pianists who regularly practise through headphones

• Players looking for wooden keys

• Homes where a lighter wood-effect cabinet is preferred

• Customers wanting a substantial Clavinova without moving to the larger upper CLP models

PLAYING STYLES & APPLICATIONS

The CLP-845WB is highly capable for:

• Classical repertoire

• Contemporary piano

• Jazz

• Pop

• Musical theatre

• Accompaniment

• Examination practice

• Technique development

• Composition

• Teaching

• Duet lessons

Its keyboard action, pedal system and piano-focused sound engine make it particularly compelling where authentic piano response is the priority.

HOW IT COMPARES

CLP-845 vs CLP-835

The CLP-845 represents a meaningful physical upgrade from the CLP-835.

Key advantages include:

• Wooden white keys

• More powerful amplification

• More sophisticated two-way speaker system

Both use GrandTouch-S actions, but the wooden-key construction and upgraded sound reproduction make the CLP-845 particularly attractive for more demanding pianists.

CLP-845 vs CLP-875

Moving to the CLP-875 introduces Yamaha's longer-pivot GrandTouch keyboard rather than GrandTouch-S.

The CLP-875 also incorporates a more sophisticated three-way speaker arrangement and further acoustic refinements.

The CLP-845 therefore remains an attractive middle ground for pianists wanting wooden keys and powerful amplification without moving to the larger upper-series models.

CLP-845 vs CLP-865GP

Yamaha describes the fundamental performance of the grand-style CLP-865GP as essentially equivalent to the CLP-845.

The principal distinction is therefore cabinet format.

Choose the CLP-845 for the practicality and smaller footprint of an upright-style Clavinova, or consider the CLP-865GP where the visual presence of a baby-grand-style cabinet is important.

DIMENSIONS & PLACEMENT

The Yamaha CLP-845WB measures approximately:

Width: 1,450mm
Height: 927mm
Depth: 460mm
Weight: 60kg

With the music rest raised:

Overall height: approximately 1,091mm

The White Birch finish provides a lighter wood-effect alternative to Yamaha's Black and Dark Rosewood cabinets and is visually distinct from the solid White (WH) version.

WHITE BIRCH FINISH

The WB designation means White Birch.

This is important because Yamaha offers both:

• CLP-845WB – White Birch

• CLP-845WH – White

They are not the same finish.

White Birch provides a light wood-effect appearance, while WH is Yamaha's conventional White cabinet finish.

The underlying piano specification remains the same, so the choice between them is primarily aesthetic.

POWER REQUIREMENTS

The Yamaha CLP-845 uses the PA-500 AC adaptor.

🎵 FAIR DEAL MUSIC EXPERT VERDICT ★★★★★

Best suited for: Pianists looking for a premium home digital piano with wooden white keys, powerful two-way speakers and a highly developed acoustic-piano-focused playing experience.

Likely upgrade path: A logical step up from Yamaha Arius models, entry and mid-range digital pianos, portable weighted-key instruments and older Clavinova models where the player now wants a more substantial action, cabinet and speaker system.

Useful pairings: Quality Yamaha headphones, a suitable USB flash drive for audio recording and Yamaha Smart Pianist on a compatible smartphone or tablet.

Our tip: If you're comparing the CLP-835 and CLP-845, concentrate on the physical playing experience rather than simply counting digital features. The wooden white keys and substantially more powerful two-way speaker system are the big reasons to move to the CLP-845.

And if you're choosing between the CLP-845WB and CLP-845WH, remember that White Birch and White are genuinely different finishes. The WB is the one to consider if you prefer a light wood-effect cabinet rather than a solid white appearance.

FDM view: The CLP-845 occupies a particularly attractive position in Yamaha's current Clavinova range. GrandTouch-S keeps the cabinet manageable, while wooden white keys and the powerful two-way speaker system provide meaningful upgrades to the parts of the piano you interact with every time you play.
