Why Choose the Electro-Harmonix Nano Clone?
Genuine Analogue Chorus
The Nano Clone uses an analogue circuit to create its modulation effect.
It slightly alters the pitch of the incoming signal before combining it with the original unaffected sound. The interaction between these signals creates the familiar sense of movement, width and doubling associated with chorus.
Its analogue character works especially well with:
-
Clean electric guitar
-
Light overdrive
-
Arpeggiated chords
-
Sustained notes
-
Bass guitar
-
Electric piano
-
Synthesisers
-
Ambient effects chains
Lush Shimmering Doubling
At moderate settings, the Nano Clone adds width and movement without completely transforming the original instrument tone.
This can make a single guitar part feel broader and more dimensional, helping it occupy more space within a live or recorded arrangement.
The effect is particularly useful for:
-
Clean rhythm guitar
-
Open chord voicings
-
Arpeggios
-
Melodic lead lines
-
Eighties-inspired clean sounds
-
Alternative-rock textures
-
Ambient layers
Simple Rate Control
The single Rate knob adjusts the speed of the chorus modulation.
Turning the control anticlockwise produces a slower and more gradual sweep. This creates a spacious sound that can add depth without becoming overly obvious.
Turning the Rate control clockwise increases the modulation speed, producing a faster and more animated effect.
This streamlined design makes the Nano Clone easy to adjust during rehearsals, recording sessions and live performances.
Slow, Spacious Modulation
Lower Rate settings add gentle pitch movement behind the original signal.
These settings are particularly effective for:
-
Slow chord progressions
-
Clean arpeggios
-
Ballads
-
Ambient guitar
-
Sustained keyboard sounds
-
Subtle studio layering
The effect can add dimension while allowing the original playing dynamics and note attack to remain clear.
Fast, Animated Chorus
Higher Rate settings produce a more obvious pulse and faster modulation.
This can create:
-
Vibrant indie-guitar textures
-
Animated funk sounds
-
Psychedelic modulation
-
Rotary-inspired movement
-
Experimental effects
-
Fast, watery chorus
The wide Rate range allows the pedal to move beyond subtle doubling into more distinctive modulation sounds.
Works with Clean and Driven Tones
The Nano Clone can be used with both clean and overdriven sounds.
With a clean amplifier, it produces a clear and spacious doubling effect. When combined with overdrive or distortion, the modulation becomes thicker and more integrated into the harmonic content of the driven tone.
The final result will also depend on whether the chorus is positioned before or after the gain pedals.
Compact Pedalboard Format
The Nano Clone places its analogue chorus circuit inside a compact Electro-Harmonix enclosure.
Its narrow footprint leaves valuable room for additional effects such as:
-
Tuners
-
Overdrives
-
Fuzz pedals
-
Phasers
-
Delays
-
Reverbs
-
Loop switchers
The durable die-cast chassis is designed for regular pedalboard, rehearsal and live use.
True-Bypass Switching
The Nano Clone uses true-bypass switching.
When the pedal is disengaged, the active chorus circuit is removed from the signal path. A status LED clearly indicates when the effect is switched on.
Low Power Consumption
With a current draw of 12mA, the Nano Clone places very little demand on a compatible pedalboard power supply.
It can also operate from a standard 9V battery, making it suitable for smaller setups without a dedicated mains-powered pedalboard.
Why Choose an Analogue Chorus Pedal?
A chorus pedal creates the impression of two or more instruments playing together by blending the original signal with a slightly delayed and modulated copy.
This produces subtle variations in pitch and timing, adding width and movement to the sound.
Chorus can be used to:
-
Make clean guitar sound wider
-
Add movement to sustained chords
-
Create shimmering arpeggios
-
Thicken lead guitar
-
Animate bass lines
-
Add depth to keyboards
-
Produce eighties-inspired guitar sounds
-
Create ambient textures
-
Add contrast between song sections
-
Enrich recorded instrument layers
An analogue chorus such as the Nano Clone offers this modulation through a simple physical interface without digital menus or preset programming.

When using battery power, inserting a cable into the Input socket activates the pedal. Disconnect the input cable when the Nano Clone is not being used to preserve battery life.
Always use a regulated external power supply with the correct voltage and polarity.
Where Should the Nano Clone Be Placed?
There is no single correct pedal order, but the following positions provide useful starting points.
After Overdrive and Distortion
This conventional placement applies the chorus effect to the complete driven sound.
It normally produces a clear and pronounced modulation that works well for rock, pop and alternative guitar.
Before Overdrive and Distortion
Placing the Nano Clone before gain allows the overdrive or distortion to process the modulated signal.
This can create a more compressed and integrated chorus effect.
Before Delay and Reverb
Placing chorus before delay and reverb allows the later effects to repeat and expand the modulated sound.
This is an excellent starting point for ambient, indie and clean guitar textures.
In an Amplifier Effects Loop
Using the Nano Clone in an effects loop can keep the chorus clear when the amplifier’s preamp is providing distortion.
The amplifier must offer a compatible instrument-level or suitably controlled effects loop.
Electro-Harmonix Nano Clone Compared with Other Chorus Pedals
Nano Clone vs Electro-Harmonix Small Clone
The Small Clone is the classic Electro-Harmonix chorus design that inspired the Nano Clone.
The Small Clone offers a Rate control and additional Depth switching, providing greater control over the intensity of the modulation.
The Nano Clone focuses on affordability, compact dimensions and straightforward single-control operation.
Choose the Nano Clone for maximum simplicity and pedalboard efficiency. Choose the Small Clone when additional depth control is required.
Nano Clone vs Electro-Harmonix Neo Clone
The Neo Clone uses an analogue chorus circuit with a Rate control and a two-position Depth switch.
The Nano Clone is the simpler and more affordable option, providing direct control over modulation speed without additional switching.
Choose the Nano Clone for one-knob operation. Choose the Neo Clone for greater control over chorus depth.
Nano Clone vs Digital Chorus Pedals
Digital chorus pedals may offer stereo connectivity, presets, multiple modulation types and detailed parameter control.
The Nano Clone focuses on a dedicated analogue chorus sound with an immediate physical interface.
Choose the Nano Clone for simplicity and analogue character. Choose a digital modulation pedal when presets and multiple effect types are required.
Nano Clone vs a Flanger
A flanger generally creates a sharper, more metallic comb-filter effect with pronounced sweeping movement.
The Nano Clone produces a smoother doubling effect that is often better suited to widening clean guitar and adding gentle movement.
Nano Clone vs a Phaser
A phaser creates moving peaks and notches across the frequency spectrum, producing a swirling filter-like effect.
The Nano Clone uses pitch and timing modulation to create a wider, doubled sound.
Choose chorus for width and shimmer. Choose a phaser for a more obvious sweeping effect.
