Description

Quick Product Summary

The Fender Acoustasonic Standard Telecaster in Black combines genuine acoustic resonance with familiar Fender electric-guitar ergonomics, giving players a versatile hybrid instrument for songwriting, recording and live performance.

Its solid Sitka spruce top and fully chambered nyatoh body provide a naturally resonant acoustic foundation, while two complementary pickup systems expand what the guitar can do when plugged in. A Fishman under-saddle transducer handles acoustic-style sounds, while Fender's Acoustasonic Standard Shawbucker provides a fuller magnetic electric voice.

Rather than complicating the experience with multiple switches and preset voices, the Standard Telecaster uses just Master Volume and Blend controls. Turn towards the acoustic pickup for a cleaner electro-acoustic response, bring in the Shawbucker for more electric character, or combine both to create your own balance.

Finished entirely in Black with a rosewood fingerboard and bridge, this is a particularly sleek take on Fender's acoustic-electric crossover concept.

Fair Deal Quality Control Assessment

Every new guitar sold through Fair Deal Music is checked before leaving us, with attention given to its general playing condition, hardware, controls and electronics.

With the Acoustasonic Standard Telecaster, both pickup systems are an important part of the instrument, so the Fishman under-saddle transducer, magnetic Shawbucker and Volume/Blend controls form part of the functional checks.

As with any guitar, setup can shift slightly during delivery because of changes in temperature and humidity. If you need advice on action, neck relief, strings, battery replacement or amplification after delivery, our experienced team is happy to help.

Why Choose The Fender Acoustasonic Standard Telecaster?

Genuine Acoustic Construction

The Acoustasonic Standard is not simply a solid-body Telecaster fitted with a piezo pickup. Fender combines a braced solid Sitka spruce top with a fully chambered body, giving the instrument genuine acoustic resonance.

That means it can be enjoyed unplugged for practice and songwriting while also providing a strong foundation for its amplified acoustic sounds.

Fishman Under-Saddle Transducer

The Fishman under-saddle pickup captures vibration through the bridge and forms the acoustic side of the guitar's amplified personality.

It provides a useful starting point for clean rhythm work, picked passages, singer-songwriter accompaniment and live acoustic duties.

Acoustasonic Standard Shawbucker

Fender's Acoustasonic Standard Shawbucker was voiced specifically for this range and provides a substantially different magnetic character from the under-saddle pickup.

Bring it forward when you want greater body, attack or compatibility with electric-guitar effects such as overdrive, delay and modulation.

Simple Continuous Blend Control

One of the Standard model's biggest strengths is its uncomplicated control system.

There is no multi-position voice selector. Instead, the Blend control continuously adjusts the balance between the acoustic transducer and magnetic pickup.

For live players who want fast, predictable adjustments, this simplicity can be a genuine advantage.

Comfortable Fender Playing Feel

The Modern Deep “C” neck profile, 25.5" scale, 12" rosewood fingerboard radius and 22 medium-jumbo fretscreate a playing experience that should feel immediately accessible to many electric guitarists.

Integrated forearm and back contours also help the chambered body remain comfortable during longer playing sessions.

Comparison Against Popular Alternatives

Acoustasonic Standard Telecaster vs Acoustasonic Standard Jazzmaster

Both Standard models use the same basic formula of a solid spruce top, chambered nyatoh construction, under-saddle pickup, Shawbucker and Volume/Blend electronics.

The main difference is the body shape. Choose the Telecaster for a compact, familiar Fender outline; choose the Jazzmaster if you prefer the larger offset shape and its different physical feel.

Acoustasonic Standard Telecaster vs Acoustasonic Player Telecaster

The Acoustasonic Player Telecaster adds a Fender/Fishman Acoustic Engine, three-way switching and six available voices.

The Standard takes the opposite approach. It gives you two pickup sources and lets you continuously blend between them.

Choose the Standard if simplicity is important. Choose the Player if having more predetermined acoustic and electric voices available directly from the guitar is worth the step up.

Acoustasonic Standard Telecaster vs American Acoustasonic Telecaster

The American Acoustasonic Telecaster sits at the premium end of the range with three pickup sources, five-way switching and the widest onboard sound palette.

The Standard is intentionally more straightforward. It is a strong choice for players attracted to the Acoustasonic body concept and playing feel who do not need ten different onboard voice combinations.

Acoustasonic Standard Telecaster vs Traditional Electro Acoustic Guitar

A conventional electro-acoustic remains the natural option when full acoustic body depth, traditional projection and conventional acoustic ergonomics are your priorities.

The Acoustasonic Standard is better suited to someone who values electric-style comfort, a slim body and the ability to blend acoustic and magnetic pickup characteristics.

Who Is The Fender Acoustasonic Standard Telecaster For?

This guitar makes particular sense for players whose music regularly crosses the boundary between acoustic and electric.

It is well suited to:

  • Singer-songwriters

  • Solo performers

  • Duo musicians

  • Worship guitarists

  • Function and covers players

  • Home recording musicians

  • Electric guitarists wanting acoustic capability

  • Acoustic players wanting a slimmer body

  • Indie and alternative guitarists

  • Pop musicians

  • Loop-pedal performers

  • Songwriters experimenting with layered textures

  • Players wanting to reduce guitar changes during a live set

Suitable Genres And Playing Styles

The Acoustasonic Standard Telecaster works particularly well for singer-songwriter music, pop, indie, alternative, contemporary worship, folk-influenced material and modern acoustic arrangements.

Move the Blend control towards the under-saddle transducer for cleaner acoustic-style rhythm parts, open chords and picked accompaniment.

Introduce more Shawbucker when you need extra weight or want to work with electric-guitar effects. That makes the guitar especially useful for sets where acoustic accompaniment gradually develops into fuller band arrangements.

Looping and home recording are also natural applications because contrasting textures can be created without putting one guitar down and reaching for another.

How Does The Fender Acoustasonic Standard Blend Control Work?

The Standard Acoustasonic deliberately avoids complicated switching.

Its Blend control continuously adjusts the balance between the Fishman under-saddle transducer and Acoustasonic Standard Shawbucker.

At the acoustic end, the Fishman pickup provides the foundation. Turning towards the magnetic pickup progressively introduces more of the Shawbucker's fuller character.

Intermediate positions combine both pickup sources, allowing you to find a balance that suits your amplification, effects and arrangement.

This is noticeably different from the Player and American Acoustasonic systems, which use selector switches to access additional predetermined voices.

What Is Fender's SIRS Acoustasonic Construction?

Fender's Stringed Instrument Resonance System – SIRS – is a major part of what separates an Acoustasonic from a standard electric guitar fitted with acoustic electronics.

The instrument uses a chambered body, braced spruce top and specially designed acoustic architecture to create genuine physical resonance.

This means the acoustic character begins with the construction of the guitar itself rather than relying entirely on digital processing or an acoustic simulation effect.

For players comparing an Acoustasonic with a conventional solid-body guitar and acoustic simulator pedal, that is an important distinction.

Compatibility & Recommended Pairings

The Acoustasonic Standard Telecaster can work with several different types of guitar rig depending on the sound you want.

Useful pairings include:

  • Acoustic guitar amplifiers

  • Full-range PA systems

  • Active PA speakers

  • Acoustic preamps

  • DI boxes

  • Guitar modellers

  • Multi-effects processors

  • Audio interfaces

  • Loop pedals

  • Reverb

  • Delay

  • Compression

  • Chorus and modulation

  • Light overdrive

  • Boost pedals

An acoustic amplifier or full-range system will generally reveal more of the under-saddle pickup's acoustic response.

An electric-oriented amplifier or effects rig can bring the Shawbucker side forward, while a modeller or full-range setup offers a flexible solution for players who regularly use both.

Story & Context

Fender launched the modern American Acoustasonic Telecaster in 2019, developing a hybrid platform that brought acoustic construction and Fender's familiar electric-guitar designs together.

The range subsequently expanded into Player models and additional Fender body shapes, giving musicians different levels of electronic complexity and different ways to approach the acoustic-electric concept.

Fender introduced the Acoustasonic Standard Series in January 2025, taking a deliberately streamlined approach. Instead of recreating the extensive voice selection of the premium American instruments, the Standard focuses on a solid spruce top, resonant chambered construction, two complementary pickups and an intuitive Blend control.

That makes this Black Acoustasonic Standard Telecaster an important part of the range in its own right: the physical hybrid design remains central, but the electronics are considerably easier to navigate.

Power Requirements

The Fender Acoustasonic Standard Telecaster's amplified electronics are powered by a replaceable 9V battery, accessed from the rear of the instrument.

Battery power is required for the pickup system when plugged in, so keeping a spare 9V battery in your accessories bag is sensible for rehearsals and live performances.

Connect the guitar to your amplifier, PA, DI box, modeller or audio interface using a standard ¼-inch instrument cable.

Fair Deal Music Verdict 🎵

★★★★★ 5/5

The Fender Acoustasonic Standard Telecaster in Black is one of the most straightforward ways into Fender's hybrid acoustic-electric concept.

Its standout feature is not a huge collection of presets but the opposite: simplicity. You have a genuinely resonant chambered instrument, one acoustic pickup, one magnetic pickup and a single control for choosing how much of each you hear.

Best suited for: Singer-songwriters, gigging musicians, worship players, home recordists and electric guitarists wanting practical acoustic versatility.

Customers usually upgrade from: Conventional electro-acoustic guitars, entry-level hybrid instruments or live setups that currently require separate acoustic and electric guitars.

Most commonly paired with: Acoustic amplifiers, PA systems, DI boxes, modellers, loopers, delay and reverb.

Our tip: Experiment with the amplification as much as the Blend control. A full-range or acoustic-oriented system will bring the Fishman side forward, while an electric guitar rig can reveal considerably more of the Shawbucker's character.

Showroom feedback: The two-control layout is a major strength. Players can understand how the guitar works almost immediately, making the Standard particularly attractive if you like the Acoustasonic idea but do not need a large menu of onboard voices.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Fender Acoustasonic Standard Telecaster be played unplugged?

Yes. The solid Sitka spruce top and chambered construction produce genuine acoustic resonance, making the guitar useful for quiet practice and songwriting without amplification.

For performance alongside other instruments, amplification will normally be required.

Is the Acoustasonic Standard Telecaster suitable for electric guitarists?

Yes. Its bolt-on Modern Deep “C” neck, 25.5" scale, 22 medium-jumbo frets and slim body make it much more familiar to an electric guitarist than many conventional acoustic guitars.

What is the difference between the Standard and Player Acoustasonic Telecaster?

The Standard uses a simple two-pickup system with Volume and continuous Blend controls. The Player adds three-way switching and six available voices through its Fender/Fishman Acoustic Engine.

Does the Standard Telecaster use digital acoustic modelling?

The Standard focuses on analogue electronics and blending between its under-saddle and magnetic pickups rather than the larger collection of selectable modelled voices found further up the Acoustasonic range.

Can I use normal electric guitar pedals?

Yes. Delay, reverb, compression, modulation and looping work particularly well. Overdrive and boost can also be effective when more of the Shawbucker is blended into the signal.

Can the Acoustasonic Standard plug directly into a PA?

Yes. Connecting to a suitable PA or full-range system is a practical way to reproduce its acoustic side. A DI box or acoustic preamp can provide additional level and EQ control.

Is the Black version different from the Honey Burst and Aged Natural models?

The Black, Honey Burst and Aged Natural versions share the same fundamental Acoustasonic Standard Telecaster specification. The main difference is the finish, so you can choose according to the appearance you prefer.

Can I record directly into an audio interface?

Yes. Connect the guitar to a suitable instrument input on your audio interface and use the Blend control to establish your starting tone before applying EQ, effects or amp processing in your recording software.

Should I buy an Acoustasonic or a conventional electro acoustic guitar?

Choose a conventional electro-acoustic if traditional acoustic body depth, unplugged volume and traditional acoustic feel are your priorities.

Choose the Acoustasonic Standard if you value electric-style ergonomics, a shallow body and the ability to blend acoustic and magnetic electric sounds.

When should I consider the American Acoustasonic instead?

The American model is better suited to players who specifically want the widest range of onboard acoustic and electric voices, its three-pickup architecture and five-way switching.

If you mainly want a straightforward acoustic-to-electric blend, the Standard is considerably simpler.
