Fender ST-57 Foto Flame Stratocaster, MIJ, Cherry Burst, (Used)
The Fender Japan ST-57 Foto Flame Stratocaster is a mid-1990s reissue modelled after the classic 1957 Strat design. Built with an alder body and one-piece maple neck, it’s most notable for its unique Foto Flame finish—a thin film applied to simulate figured maple. This model was part of a limited run celebrating Fender’s 40th anniversary and typically features a special engraved neck plate and a small "Foto Flame" decal on the back of the headstock.
It retains traditional '50s specs, including a 25.5" scale length, 21 vintage frets, a 7.25" fretboard radius, and a soft V neck profile. The maple fingerboard includes black dot inlays, and the hardware is vintage-style throughout—featuring a six-screw tremolo bridge, stamped saddles, and Kluson-style tuners. Electronics consist of three ST-Vintage single-coil pickups wired through a standard 5-way switch, with a master volume and two tone controls.
Though visually striking, the Foto Flame film is known to develop cracking or lifting over time, particularly around neck and body contours. This ageing is cosmetic and doesn’t affect the guitar’s tone or playability, but it contributes to the guitar’s distinct character. The ST-57 Foto Flame remains a standout among Fender Japan reissues for its unique looks, solid craftsmanship, and faithful vintage feel.
