Why Choose the Darkglass Anagram?

A Complete Bass Rig in One Floor Unit

The Anagram can replace a substantial traditional bass rig. It brings together effects pedals, preamps, amplifier modelling, cabinet simulation, routing tools and performance controls within one streamlined platform.

You can connect it directly to a PA system, audio interface, power amplifier, bass amplifier or headphones, making it suitable for almost any playing environment.

Powerful Six-Core Processing

At the heart of Anagram is an advanced six-core DSP system designed to handle detailed signal chains and amplifier models without compromising responsiveness.

This processing power allows several effects, routing blocks and sound-shaping tools to operate simultaneously while maintaining the immediate playing feel demanded by professional bassists.

Classic Darkglass Tones Built In

Anagram provides access to a selection of Darkglass’s most recognisable bass sounds, including drive and distortion styles inspired by the Microtubes, Vintage Microtubes, Alpha Omicron and Microtubes X families.

Players can move from subtle harmonic enhancement to modern high-gain distortion without needing to assemble a large collection of individual pedals.

Neural Amp and Pedal Model Support

Support for NAM and AIDA-X neural models greatly expands the tonal possibilities available.

Players can load compatible captures of amplifiers, preamps and pedals, allowing the Anagram to recreate a growing selection of real-world equipment alongside its factory models and effects.

Detailed Cabinet Simulation

The cabinet section includes a curated collection of bass and guitar cabinet models, with multiple microphone choices and adjustable microphone positions.

This makes it possible to shape a convincing finished sound for direct recording or front-of-house use without relying on a physical microphone and speaker cabinet.

Flexible Signal-Chain Design

Effects and processing blocks can be arranged to suit your playing style rather than forcing you into a fixed signal path.

Split and merge tools, stereo processing and the external effects loop allow you to create simple conventional pedalboards or more advanced parallel signal chains.

Intuitive Touchscreen Control

The large colour touchscreen provides a clear visual overview of your signal chain and makes editing sounds far more approachable than menu-heavy processors.

Physical controls and footswitches remain available for immediate stage operation, giving Anagram a practical balance between touchscreen convenience and traditional pedalboard control.

Effects and Sound-Shaping Tools

Anagram includes an extensive selection of processing blocks covering the essential elements of a professional bass rig.

These include:

  • Bass and guitar amplifier models
  • Bass and guitar cabinet simulations
  • Darkglass overdrive and distortion effects
  • Fuzz and multiband distortion
  • Compressors and limiters
  • Graphic and parametric EQ
  • High-pass and low-pass filters
  • Envelope filters
  • Noise suppression
  • Chorus, flanger, phaser, tremolo and vibrato
  • Octave and pitch-shifting effects
  • Digital, analogue-style and modulated delays
  • Room, plate, hall, shimmer and spring reverbs
  • Volume, gain, routing and utility blocks
  • External effects-loop integration
  • User cabinet impulse-response loading
  • NAM and AIDA-X neural model loading

Available processing blocks may continue to expand through Darkglass software and firmware development.

Built for Live Performance

Anagram is designed to make complex sounds manageable on stage. Presets can store complete bass rigs, allowing you to move between clean, driven, ambient and specialist sounds without manually switching several pedals.

The footswitches provide immediate performance control, while MIDI connectivity allows Anagram to communicate with compatible external controllers and other MIDI-equipped equipment.

Its cabinet modelling also makes it an excellent choice for ampless performance, where the processed signal is sent directly to the front-of-house system or powered monitor.

Built for Recording

For recording musicians, the Anagram provides a finished, studio-ready bass sound without requiring an amplifier, speaker cabinet or microphone.

Amplifier modelling, cabinet simulation, compression and EQ can all be combined within the same preset. USB connectivity also supports integration with compatible computers and Darkglass software for managing the unit and expanding its capabilities.

The ability to audition different amplifiers, cabinets, microphones and neural captures makes it particularly useful for home studios where recording space may be limited.

Why Choose a Bass Multi-Effects Processor?

A modern bass multi-effects processor can simplify both your equipment and your workflow.

Instead of transporting multiple pedals, power supplies, patch cables and amplifiers, one unit can store numerous complete setups. Presets can be recalled instantly, providing consistent sounds at rehearsals, concerts and recording sessions.

The Anagram is especially appealing to players who need several contrasting sounds but still want the depth and tonal character associated with dedicated bass equipment.

Who Is the Darkglass Anagram For?

Performing Bassists

Ideal for musicians who require several dependable sounds during a live set, including direct-to-PA and ampless setups.

Studio and Session Players

A strong choice for players who need access to different amplifier, cabinet and effects combinations without rebuilding a physical rig for every recording.

Darkglass Users

Perfect for bassists who enjoy Darkglass distortion and preamp sounds but want them integrated into a wider, programmable effects platform.

Modern and Progressive Players

The flexible routing, multiband processing, pitch effects and advanced modelling make Anagram particularly well suited to modern rock, metal, progressive and experimental styles.

Traditional Players Seeking More Flexibility

Anagram is not limited to aggressive bass sounds. Its clean amplifiers, compression, EQ and vintage-style cabinet options also make it suitable for funk, soul, pop, jazz and classic rock.

Darkglass Anagram Compared with a Traditional Pedalboard

A conventional pedalboard can provide immediate control and a distinctive collection of individual effects, but adding more sounds usually requires additional pedals, cabling and power.

The Anagram places complete signal chains inside recallable presets. This makes it easier to reproduce the same sound consistently, change several effects simultaneously and prepare dedicated setups for different songs or instruments.

Traditional pedals can still be incorporated through the external effects loop, so players do not necessarily have to abandon their favourite analogue equipment.

Darkglass Anagram Compared with a Conventional Bass Amplifier

A traditional amplifier and cabinet provide the physical response of moving air on stage, while the Anagram offers much greater portability and tonal variety.

Anagram can feed a PA system, powered speaker, recording interface or the effects return of an existing amplifier. This allows it to work as either a complete direct rig or the processing centre of a more traditional amplifier setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Darkglass Anagram be connected directly to a PA system?

Yes. Its amplifier and cabinet modelling allow a complete processed bass sound to be sent directly to a PA system or powered monitor.

Can it be used with a traditional bass amplifier?

Yes. It can be connected to the front input of an amplifier, used with an amplifier’s effects return or incorporated into a more advanced setup using its routing options.

Does Anagram only produce modern metal bass tones?

No. Although Darkglass is well known for modern bass distortion, Anagram also includes clean processing, compression, EQ, modulation, vintage-inspired amplifier sounds and a broad selection of cabinets.

Can I use my existing pedals with it?

Yes. External pedals can be placed before or after the Anagram, while the built-in effects loop allows compatible equipment to be inserted within the Anagram’s internal signal chain.

Does it support third-party amplifier captures?

Yes. Anagram supports compatible NAM and AIDA-X neural models, allowing additional amplifier, preamp and pedal captures to be loaded.

Can I load my own cabinet impulse responses?

Yes. A user cabinet IR loader is included for compatible impulse-response files.

Is it suitable for guitar as well as bass?

Anagram is primarily designed as a bass platform, but it includes guitar cabinet options and flexible processing that can also be used to create guitar sounds.

Is it suitable for home practice?

Yes. The headphone output, amp modelling, cabinet simulation and recallable presets make it an extremely capable practice system without requiring a full amplifier rig.
