LR Baggs Element Active System VTC Acoustic Guitar Pickup
Description
Quick Product Summary
The LR Baggs Element Active System VTC is a professional active undersaddle pickup system designed to deliver a warm, responsive and natural amplified acoustic guitar sound. Rather than focusing primarily on direct string pressure, the flexible Element sensor is engineered to respond closely to the movement of the guitar's saddle and soundboard, helping retain the dynamics and character of the instrument.
The VTC version adds discreet soundhole-mounted volume and tone controls, an all-discrete Class A endpin preamp and a built-in low-frequency compressor. The result is a streamlined amplification system that offers plenty of stage-ready punch and feedback resistance without requiring a large preamp panel to be cut into the side of the guitar.

What Makes the LR Baggs Element Active System VTC Special?
The Element differs from many traditional undersaddle designs by using an exceptionally flexible film sensor that responds to the movement and resonance occurring around the saddle rather than simply relying on concentrated string pressure. This helps minimise the sharp, compressed character often associated with undersaddle pickups while retaining the strong definition and feedback resistance that makes this type of pickup so useful on stage.
The VTC system expands on the core Element design with convenient soundhole-mounted volume and treble tone controls plus a proprietary analogue low-frequency compressor. This compression circuit helps control excessive low-end thump while preserving the dynamics of the instrument, resulting in a more balanced and polished amplified sound.
Who Is It For?
The LR Baggs Element Active System VTC is ideal for acoustic guitarists who want a dependable internal pickup system that combines natural response with the practical advantages of an undersaddle transducer.
It is especially well suited to gigging acoustic players, singer-songwriters, worship musicians, full-band performers and touring guitarists who need a strong, consistent signal with good resistance to feedback.
Its discreet controls also make it an attractive option for players who want onboard volume and tone adjustment without adding a large side-mounted preamp to their guitar.
Why Choose an Active Undersaddle Pickup?
An undersaddle pickup is positioned beneath the guitar's saddle, giving it a strong mechanical connection to the vibrating strings and soundboard. This produces a consistent signal with excellent definition and makes undersaddle systems particularly practical when playing at higher stage volumes.
Adding an active preamp provides a stronger, properly buffered output that can work effectively with acoustic amplifiers, mixing desks, DI boxes and pedalboards. The Element VTC combines these advantages with simple onboard control and low-frequency compression for a more refined amplified response.
Element Undersaddle Pickup
At the heart of the system is LR Baggs' Element pickup, which uses a flexible sensor construction designed to couple closely with the guitar.
Its minimalist construction allows the pickup to respond naturally to changes in playing dynamics, from delicate fingerstyle passages to aggressive strumming, while avoiding excessive influence on the instrument's unplugged acoustic properties.
The standard steel-string Element VTC is suitable for guitars with 3/32-inch or 1/8-inch saddle slots.
All-Discrete Class A Preamp
The Element is paired with an all-discrete Class A endpin preamp designed specifically around the pickup.
Housing the preamp within the endpin assembly keeps the installation visually unobtrusive while providing the active buffering needed for a strong and reliable output.
The system automatically powers on when an instrument cable is connected to the endpin output jack.
Soundhole Volume Control
A discreet rotary control located just inside the soundhole provides easy access to the guitar's output level.
This allows quick volume adjustments on stage without requiring an external pedal or reaching for an amplifier.
Soundhole Tone Control
The VTC version adds a dedicated treble tone control, also positioned discreetly at the soundhole.
This allows you to adjust the brightness of the amplified guitar, helping compensate for different instruments, amplification systems, venues and playing styles.
Built-In Low-Frequency Compression
One of the defining features of the VTC system is its proprietary analogue low-frequency compressor.
Focused on the lower part of the frequency range, the compressor helps control excessive bass transients and the unwanted low-end thump that can occur when an acoustic guitar is amplified.
Rather than simply reducing bass frequencies, it dynamically manages them, helping the amplified instrument retain a natural sense of balance and response.
Discreet Installation
The Element VTC does not require a large rectangular preamp panel to be installed into the side of the guitar.
Its volume and tone controls mount discreetly inside the soundhole, while the preamp is incorporated into the endpin output assembly. This makes it particularly attractive for players who want to preserve the traditional appearance of their acoustic guitar.

Power Requirements
The LR Baggs Element Active System VTC is powered by a single 9V battery mounted internally within the guitar.
Battery life is rated at approximately 1,000 hours, making the system extremely economical for regular gigging and rehearsal use.
Connecting a guitar cable to the endpin jack switches the system on, so the cable should be removed when the instrument is not being used to preserve battery life.
Installation
The Element Active System VTC is designed as a permanently installed internal acoustic pickup system.
Installation involves correctly positioning the undersaddle sensor, fitting the endpin preamp/output jack, mounting the soundhole controls and securing the internal battery system.
Professional installation is required to ensure correct saddle contact, string balance and reliable long-term operation.
