Yamaha FC35 Compact 3 Pedal Unit for P-series Pianos
Pairs well with
Description
The Yamaha FC35 Three-Pedal Unit gives compatible Yamaha digital pianos a complete piano-style pedal setup with damper, sostenuto and soft pedals in a compact freestanding design.
Unlike furniture-mounted pedal assemblies, the FC35 can be placed directly on the floor and connected to the piano with a single cable. This makes it especially useful for portable digital-piano setups where you want full three-pedal functionality without permanently attaching the instrument to a dedicated furniture stand.
The damper pedal supports half-pedalling, allowing more subtle control over sustain than a simple on/off pedal. Yamaha also uses a rubberised base design to help minimise movement when the pedals are pressed.
The FC35 is officially compatible with Yamaha models including the P-121, P-125, P-125a, P-225, P-515, P-525, P-S500 and DGX-670 on Yamaha UK’s current accessory page.

COMPLETE THREE-PEDAL PIANO CONTROL
The FC35 gives compatible Yamaha digital pianos the three pedal functions associated with a conventional piano:
Damper
Sustains notes after the keys have been released.
Sostenuto
Sustains only selected notes that were already being held when the pedal was pressed.
Soft
Changes the tonal character and response to provide a softer effect.
Together, these functions create a much more complete piano-style pedal setup than a single sustain pedal.
HALF-PEDAL SUPPORT
One of the most important features of the FC35 is half-pedalling on the damper pedal.
A basic sustain pedal typically behaves like a switch:
On or off.
Half-pedalling allows compatible Yamaha instruments to respond to intermediate pedal positions.
This gives the player finer control over:
-
Sustain length
-
Resonance
-
Pedal depth
-
Legato transitions
-
More nuanced piano technique
Yamaha specifically states that the FC35 supports half-pedalling for more subtle control over reverberation and expression.
FREESTANDING DESIGN
The FC35 is designed to work as a freestanding pedal unit.
This is one of its biggest practical advantages.
You do not necessarily need:
-
A furniture stand
-
A permanently installed pedal bar
-
A cabinet-style digital piano
The pedal unit can simply be placed on the floor in front of a compatible instrument and connected using its cable.
That makes it especially useful for:
-
Portable digital pianos
-
Home practice setups
-
Stage and rehearsal use
-
Temporary installations
-
Players who regularly move their piano
Yamaha specifically highlights the FC35 as a way to achieve three-pedal performance even when the piano is not being used with a stand.
RUBBER BASE HELPS REDUCE MOVEMENT
Pedal units can become frustrating if they slide backwards every time the player presses a pedal.
Yamaha addresses this with a rubberised base designed to minimise slipping.
That helps the FC35 remain more stable during normal playing and lets the player concentrate on pedalling rather than repositioning the unit.
COMPACT DIMENSIONS
The Yamaha FC35 measures approximately:
Width: 302mm
Height: 97mm
Depth: 160mm
It weighs approximately:
2kg
This makes it compact enough to transport relatively easily while still providing a substantial three-pedal layout.
MINI-DIN CONNECTION
The FC35 connects using a:
Mini-DIN connector
This means compatibility should always be checked against the exact Yamaha piano model rather than assuming it will work with any keyboard or digital piano.
Yamaha confirms mini-DIN connectivity in the official specification.
OFFICIAL YAMAHA UK COMPATIBILITY
Yamaha UK currently lists the FC35 for use with:
-
Yamaha P-121
-
Yamaha P-125
-
Yamaha P-125a
-
Yamaha P-225
-
Yamaha P-515
-
Yamaha P-525
-
Yamaha P-S500
-
Yamaha DGX-670
Compatibility information can vary as Yamaha introduces newer models, so the exact instrument should always be checked before purchase.
P-225 COMPATIBILITY
The Yamaha P-225 officially supports the FC35 as an optional pedal unit.
This gives P-225 owners a choice between:
-
The furniture-mounted LP-1 system
-
The freestanding FC35
The FC35 is particularly attractive if you want three pedals without permanently installing the piano on the dedicated stand.
P-525 COMPATIBILITY
The Yamaha P-525 also supports the FC35.
Yamaha specifically presents it as an alternative to the LP-1 pedal unit, giving players the option of a freestanding three-pedal setup while retaining half-pedal functionality.
DGX-670 COMPATIBILITY
The FC35 is officially compatible with the Yamaha DGX-670.
This gives DGX-670 owners a useful alternative to installing the LP-1 pedal bar beneath an L-300 stand.
If portability matters, the FC35 can make much more sense because it does not need to remain physically attached to the stand.
P-S500 COMPATIBILITY
Yamaha also lists the FC35 as compatible with the P-S500.
This allows the P-S500 to gain a full three-pedal piano configuration without requiring a furniture-mounted pedal assembly.
ALSO USEFUL AS AN AUXILIARY PEDAL FOR CHILDREN
Yamaha highlights another interesting use for the FC35.
Because it is freestanding, it can be positioned higher on a suitable stable platform to make the pedals reachable for smaller children.
This can be useful when:
-
A child cannot yet reach the piano’s built-in pedals
-
A teaching piano is shared between adults and children
-
The main piano pedal unit is physically too low for a young student
Yamaha specifically notes that the FC35 can be used as an auxiliary pedal for small children, provided any supporting platform is sufficiently large, flat and stable.
FC35 VS A SINGLE SUSTAIN PEDAL
A standard sustain pedal gives you one main function.
Single Sustain Pedal
-
Damper / sustain only
-
Compact
-
Lower cost
-
Simple setup
Yamaha FC35
-
Damper
-
Sostenuto
-
Soft
-
Half-pedal support
-
Piano-style three-pedal layout
For casual use, a single pedal may be sufficient.
For players working on repertoire that requires proper pedal technique, the FC35 provides a much more complete solution.
FC35 VS YAMAHA LP-1
Both are three-pedal Yamaha solutions, but their formats differ.
Yamaha FC35
-
Freestanding
-
Works without being physically attached to a stand
-
Easy to move
-
More flexible for portable setups
-
Three pedals
-
Half-pedal support
Yamaha LP-1
-
Furniture-style pedal bar
-
Designed to attach beneath compatible Yamaha stands
-
Creates a more permanent home-piano appearance
-
Three pedals
-
Half-pedal support on compatible instruments
For a fixed home setup, the LP-1 can provide a cleaner furniture-style installation.
For portability and flexibility, the FC35 is often the more practical choice.

DIMENSIONS & WEIGHT
The Yamaha FC35 measures:
302mm wide × 97mm high × 160mm deep
and weighs approximately:
2kg.
Its relatively compact dimensions make it easier to transport than a furniture-mounted pedal assembly.
IMPORTANT SETUP NOTE
Yamaha advises extra care when using the FC35 with certain portable models.
For the P-121, P-125, P-125a and P-225, Yamaha recommends using the FC35 with an appropriate stand rather than placing the piano on a desk, because the desk arrangement can place pressure on the pedal cable and potentially damage it.
This is worth keeping in mind when planning a portable-piano setup.
WHO IS IT FOR?

Portable digital-piano owners
-
Players wanting a full three-pedal setup
-

🎵 FAIR DEAL MUSIC EXPERT VERDICT ★★★★★
Best suited for: Yamaha digital-piano owners who want proper three-pedal functionality without permanently installing a furniture-style pedal unit.
Useful pairing: Particularly practical with Yamaha P-Series instruments and the DGX-670 when portability matters.
Our tip: If your piano stays permanently on its matching Yamaha furniture stand, an LP-series pedal unit may look tidier. If you move the piano, use a portable stand, or simply want more flexibility, the FC35 is the more convenient option.
FDM view: The FC35 solves a very specific problem extremely well. It gives portable Yamaha digital pianos damper, sostenuto, soft and half-pedal control without forcing the instrument into a permanent furniture-style setup. For serious piano practice on a portable Yamaha, that flexibility is genuinely useful.
