1959 Gretsch G6124 Single Anniversary Electric Guitar, (Used)
Description
The 1959 Gretsch G6124 Single Anniversary is a fully hollow archtop electric guitar introduced as part of Gretsch’s Anniversary line, released to celebrate the company’s 75th anniversary. It features a laminated maple body with a 16-inch lower bout, laminated maple back and sides, and a set maple neck joined to an ebony fingerboard with thumbnail inlays. The guitar uses a 24.6-inch scale length and a single-cutaway hollowbody construction closely related to the contemporary Gretsch 6120 platform.
The hardware specification includes a floating Space Control bridge mounted on an ebony base, open-gear tuners, and the Gretsch “G” tailpiece. Early 1958–1959 examples use Gretsch trestle bracing, a structural design also found in period 6120 models, which increases rigidity and reduces uncontrolled feedback while preserving hollowbody resonance. The finish on the 6124 is a shaded sunburst, distinguishing it from the two-tone green 6125 Anniversary variant.
The electronics consist of a single neck-position Filter’Tron humbucking pickup with “Patent Applied For” stamping, wired to a master volume control and Gretsch tone switch. The 1959 version is especially notable because it predates the switch to HiLo’Tron single-coil pickups used on later Anniversary models from 1960 onward. The combination of the early PAF Filter’Tron pickup and trestle-braced hollow construction places the 1959 Single Anniversary among the most sought-after early Anniversary-era Gretsch instruments.
