The 1990s Fender American Standard Stratocaster in Sunburst was part of Fender’s long-running American Standard series, produced at the Corona, California factory as the company’s modernised version of the classic Stratocaster design. These instruments feature an alder body finished in a three-tone sunburst polyester finish, paired with a maple neck and rosewood fingerboard. The series was designed to combine traditional Strat styling with more contemporary playability improvements introduced during the late 1980s and refined throughout the 1990s. 

The guitar includes a modern “C” neck profile, 9.5-inch fingerboard radius, 22 medium-jumbo frets, and a two-point synchronized tremolo bridge with block saddles. Fender also fitted sealed tuning machines and a set of three American Standard single-coil pickups controlled through a five-way selector switch with master volume and dual tone controls.

Throughout the decade, the American Standard Stratocaster became known for blending vintage-inspired Strat characteristics with modern hardware and flatter-neck specifications suited to contemporary players. Instruments from this era are commonly recognised for slim neck profiles, stable tremolo performance, and versatile single-coil response across clean and driven amplifier settings. Fender continued refining the American Standard line until it was eventually replaced by the American Professional series in 2017.
