Custom Tweedle Dee 5E3 Guitar Amplifier Head, (Used)
Description
The Custom Tweedle Dee 5E3 amp head is a hand-wired valve amplifier based on the classic late-1950s Fender 5E3 circuit, delivering warm, touch-sensitive tweed tones with natural compression and early breakup. It follows the traditional two-channel layout with Normal and Bright channels, each voiced slightly differently to offer either a rounder, smoother response or a more cutting, articulate top end. With four inputs total, players can choose between high and low sensitivity options on each channel, encouraging interactive gain staging and tonal blending.
The control layout is intentionally simple, featuring two volume controls—one for each channel—and a single shared tone control. As with vintage 5E3 designs, the volumes interact with one another, allowing the unused channel’s volume to shape the overall character even when not plugged in. This design produces a wide range of tones, from clean and woody at lower settings to rich, harmonically complex overdrive as the amp is pushed, responding strongly to pick attack and guitar volume changes.
The preamp section uses two 12AX7 tubes to drive the signal path, while rectification is handled by three GZ34 tubes as specified, contributing to the amp’s distinctive feel and dynamic sag. Built as a head rather than a combo, it is intended to be paired with an external speaker cabinet, making it flexible for different setups while retaining the raw, vintage tweed voice that the 5E3 circuit is known for.
