Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Lab M2M 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue Light Aged in Golden Poppy Burst Electric Guitar, (Used)
Description
The Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Lab 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue Light Aged in Golden Poppy Burst is a USA-made, Custom Shop solidbody electric guitar built as a highly detailed recreation of a late-1950s Les Paul Standard. It features a carved, bookmatched figured maple top over a lightweight mahogany body, with a mahogany neck shaped to a late-’50s medium C profile and an Indian rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium jumbo frets. The Golden Poppy Burst finish is applied in thin nitrocellulose lacquer and treated through Gibson’s Murphy Lab process, which simulates natural ageing and subtle wear patterns for a lightly relic’d vintage appearance.
Electronics consist of a pair of Gibson Custombucker humbuckers wired in a traditional Les Paul layout with two volume and two tone controls and a three-way toggle switch. These pickups are designed to replicate late-’50s PAF-style response, offering a balanced output with strong harmonic complexity, clear articulation, and dynamic sensitivity depending on picking strength and amplifier interaction. The hardware includes an ABR-1 bridge and lightweight aluminium stopbar tailpiece, supporting sustain and stable intonation while maintaining vintage-style construction principles.
Overall construction focuses on historical accuracy and premium materials, including hide-glue assembly techniques and carefully replicated vintage dimensions derived from original 1959 Les Paul instruments. The Murphy Lab ageing process is intended to give the instrument the feel of an experienced, played-in vintage guitar while preserving Custom Shop precision and consistency, making it a high-end collector-grade instrument as well as a professional performance guitar.
