WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT
The SE DGT is designed around the feel and response of a well-sorted vintage-style electric guitar, but with enough flexibility for modern gigging and recording.
The twin-volume layout allows the bridge and neck pickups to be balanced independently, while the push/pull tone control adds brighter, lower-output single-coil-style sounds without cluttering the control layout.
The result is a guitar that can move easily between warm neck tones, open rhythm sounds and punchy bridge lead tones.
DETAILED FEATURES & BENEFITS
McCarty-Inspired Construction
The SE DGT is based around the PRS McCarty platform.
A mahogany back provides warmth and sustain, while the maple top adds articulation and definition.
The shallow violin carve gives the guitar the familiar PRS profile while remaining distinct from a flat-top SE design.
Gold Top Finish
This example features the classic Gold Top finish.
On the SE DGT, the Gold Top version is paired with moon inlays, giving it a more understated and traditional appearance than the McCarty Tobacco Sunburst version.
Set Mahogany Neck
The neck is set into the body for a solid mechanical connection and traditional PRS feel.
Mahogany contributes warmth and sustain while maintaining the vintage-inspired character of the instrument.
DGT Neck Profile
The neck uses the dedicated DGT profile, developed around David Grissom’s preferences.
It is designed to feel substantial enough for confident rhythm playing while remaining comfortable for lead work.
Rosewood Fingerboard
The rosewood fingerboard provides a smooth playing surface and a familiar tonal response.
25" Scale Length
PRS’s 25" scale length sits between traditional Gibson and Fender measurements.
This creates a useful balance of string tension, sustain and bending feel.
22-Fret Layout
The 22-fret design supports the vintage-inspired character of the model while keeping the neck pickup positioned in a traditional tonal location.
DGT “S” HUMBUCKERS
The SE DGT uses a pair of DGT “S” humbuckers developed specifically for the model.
They are voiced to provide:
-
Strong midrange
-
Clear note separation
-
Warm neck tones
-
Punchy bridge sounds
-
Dynamic response
-
Effective coil-tapped sounds
The pickups are designed to work well across clean, edge-of-breakup and higher-gain amplifier settings.
TWO-VOLUME CONTROL LAYOUT
Unlike many PRS models with a single master volume, the SE DGT provides independent volume controls for the neck and bridge pickups.
This makes it possible to preset different output levels and tonal balances before switching between pickups.
It is particularly useful for players who like to move from a cleaner neck sound to a hotter bridge lead tone without adjusting the amplifier.
PUSH/PULL COIL-TAP
The master tone control includes a push/pull coil-tap function.
Pulling the control changes both humbuckers to brighter, lower-output single-coil-style voices.
This significantly expands the usable tonal range of the guitar.
PRS PATENTED TREMOLO
The SE DGT uses a PRS patented tremolo bridge.
This allows expressive pitch movement while retaining the familiar feel and setup approach associated with PRS tremolo-equipped guitars.

The SE DGT uses 22 frets, a DGT-specific neck profile, independent pickup volumes and a more vintage-inspired voicing.
SE DGT vs SE McCarty 594
The McCarty 594 uses a shorter scale and stoptail-style bridge arrangement.
The DGT uses a 25" scale and tremolo bridge, giving it a different playing feel and more expressive pitch control.

FAIR DEAL MUSIC EXPERT VERDICT ★★★★★
Best suited for: Players who want a vintage-inspired PRS with a flexible twin-volume control layout, tremolo bridge and strong humbucker-to-coil-tap versatility.
Customers usually upgrade from: PRS SE Standard and Custom models, entry-level dual-humbucker guitars and traditional single-volume HH designs.
Most commonly paired with: Valve amplifiers, overdrive pedals, boost pedals, delay and reverb.
Our tip: Set the neck pickup slightly lower in volume and the bridge pickup hotter. The independent volume controls make it very easy to switch between a cleaner rhythm sound and a stronger lead tone without touching your amp.
Showroom feedback: The DGT control layout is what separates this model from many other SE guitars. The twin volumes and push/pull tone make it highly practical on stage, while the Gold Top and moon inlays give this version a particularly classic appearance.
