Description

The Yamaha DGX-670WH Portable Grand Digital Piano in White combines the feel and expressive piano sound of an 88-note weighted digital piano with the creative flexibility of a feature-rich arranger keyboard.

At its heart is Yamaha’s 88-note Graded Hammer Standard – GHS keyboard, with heavier weighting towards the bass and progressively lighter weighting towards the treble. Matt black keytops provide a more tactile surface for regular practice.

For its principal piano sound, the DGX-670 uses Yamaha’s flagship CFX concert grand piano Voice, supported by Virtual Resonance Modeling – VRM, Key-Off Samples and Smooth Release technology.

But the DGX-670 goes far beyond conventional digital-piano territory.

It provides:

  • 601 instrument Voices

  • 29 Drum/SFX Kits

  • 263 accompaniment Styles

  • 256-note polyphony

  • 16-track MIDI recording

  • USB WAV audio recording

  • Bluetooth Audio

  • Microphone input

  • Score and lyric display

  • Adaptive Style

  • Smart Chord

  • Unison & Accent

  • Piano Room

  • Playlist

  • A 4.3-inch colour display

This combination makes the DGX-670WH particularly versatile for pianists who want weighted keys but also enjoy accompaniment, songwriting, arranging, singing, recording and exploring a wide variety of instrument sounds.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT

The DGX-670 is unusual because it does not force you to choose between a digital piano and an arranger keyboard.

When you simply want to practise piano, you have:

88 weighted keys.

Yamaha CFX concert grand sound.

VRM.

256-note polyphony.

But when you want to explore more, the DGX-670 can become:

  • An arranger keyboard

  • A backing band

  • A recording workstation

  • A songwriting tool

  • A singing setup

  • A practice system

  • A USB audio recorder

  • A home entertainment instrument

That flexibility is the DGX-670’s defining strength.

88-NOTE GRADED HAMMER STANDARD KEYBOARD

The DGX-670WH uses Yamaha’s Graded Hammer Standard – GHS keyboard.

Its weighting follows the broad behaviour of an acoustic piano:

  • Heavier towards the bass

  • Progressively lighter towards the treble

For players moving from an unweighted keyboard, the full-size 88-note weighted action provides a much more piano-focused playing experience.

Yamaha describes GHS as useful for developing the finger technique and strength required for acoustic-piano playing.

MATT BLACK KEYTOPS

The GHS keyboard incorporates matt black keytops.

The non-gloss finish gives the black keys a more tactile feel and helps reinforce the piano-focused character of the keyboard. Yamaha specifies the DGX-670 action as GHS with matt black keytops.

TOUCH RESPONSE

The DGX-670 provides:

  • Hard 2

  • Hard 1

  • Medium

  • Soft 1

  • Soft 2

This allows the keyboard’s dynamic response to be adapted to the player’s touch.

YAMAHA CFX CONCERT GRAND

The principal piano sound is based on Yamaha’s flagship CFX concert grand piano.

The CFX Voice provides the DGX-670 with a powerful, expressive acoustic-piano foundation suitable for:

  • Classical practice

  • Contemporary piano

  • Ballads

  • Pop

  • Jazz

  • Piano lessons

  • Everyday home performance

Yamaha highlights the CFX Voice as one of the DGX-670’s core piano technologies.

VIRTUAL RESONANCE MODELING – VRM

An acoustic grand piano creates complex sympathetic resonance.

Strings interact with one another.

Pedal use changes which strings are free to vibrate.

The instrument’s body contributes to the overall sound.

Yamaha’s Virtual Resonance Modeling – VRM recreates these interactions digitally across the keyboard.

The result is a more connected and responsive piano sound than simple sample playback alone.

KEY-OFF SAMPLES

The DGX-670 includes Key-Off Samples.

These reproduce elements of the subtle sound created when acoustic piano keys are released, contributing additional realism to the piano Voice.

SMOOTH RELEASE

Smooth Release helps reproduce changes in tone associated with different ways of releasing the keys.

This contributes to more natural articulation during expressive playing.

256-NOTE POLYPHONY

The DGX-670 provides 256-note maximum polyphony.

That capacity is particularly useful because the instrument may simultaneously be handling:

  • Piano notes

  • Sustain

  • VRM resonance

  • Layered Voices

  • Accompaniment

  • Song playback

Yamaha confirms 256-note maximum polyphony.

601 INSTRUMENT VOICES + 29 DRUM/SFX KITS

The DGX-670 provides:

601 instrument Voices

plus:

29 Drum/SFX Kits

The Voice library covers a broad range of sounds including:

  • Acoustic pianos

  • Electric pianos

  • Organs

  • Strings

  • Brass

  • Woodwind

  • Guitars

  • Synths

  • Percussion

  • Orchestral instruments

Featured Voice technologies include:

  • 9 VRM Voices

  • 49 Super Articulation Voices

  • 23 MegaVoices

  • 11 Natural! Voices

  • 26 Sweet! Voices

  • 53 Cool! Voices

  • 68 Live! Voices

SUPER ARTICULATION VOICES

Yamaha’s Super Articulation Voices reproduce characteristic performance details associated with real acoustic instruments.

Depending on the Voice and playing technique, these sounds can recreate instrument-specific articulations that would be difficult to produce using straightforward keyboard samples alone.

DUAL & SPLIT

The DGX-670 supports:

Dual / Layer

and:

Split

This allows combinations such as:

Piano + Strings

or:

Bass in the left hand + Piano in the right hand

PITCH BEND WHEEL

The DGX-670 includes a Pitch Bend wheel.

This is particularly useful when playing:

  • Guitar Voices

  • Brass

  • Saxophone

  • Synth leads

  • Other expressive instrument sounds

263 AUTOMATIC ACCOMPANIMENT STYLES

The DGX-670 provides 263 accompaniment Styles.

These include:

  • 215 Pro Styles

  • 19 Session Styles

  • 29 Pianist Styles

The Style system generates interactive backing around the chords you play across genres such as pop, rock, R&B, jazz, dance, country and Latin.

ADAPTIVE STYLE

Adaptive Style can automatically change the energy and arrangement of compatible accompaniment Styles according to the intensity of your playing.

Yamaha provides Adaptive Style on 50 Styles.

SIMPLE STYLE

Simple Style strips the accompaniment back to a less dense arrangement.

This is useful when you want the instrument Voice and your own playing to remain more prominent.

SMART CHORD

Smart Chord makes sophisticated accompaniment harmony more accessible.

A simplified left-hand input can generate fuller harmony suitable for the selected Style.

UNISON & ACCENT

The DGX-670 also includes Unison & Accent.

Unison

Allows Style accompaniment parts to follow phrases you play.

Accent

Allows stronger notes in your performance to trigger rhythmic accompaniment accents.

Yamaha includes these functions on 50 Styles.

ONE TOUCH SETTING

Each accompaniment Style provides four One Touch Settings.

These instantly recall suitable Voices and panel settings for the selected Style.

STYLE CREATOR

Style Creator allows more advanced users to create and customise accompaniment Styles.

PIANO ROOM

When you want to forget about accompaniment, menus and extra Voices, Piano Room provides a more focused environment centred around playing piano.

It is a useful shortcut back to the DGX-670’s core piano experience.

4.3-INCH COLOUR DISPLAY

The DGX-670 features a:

4.3-inch TFT colour WQVGA display

with:

480 × 272-dot resolution

The screen supports:

  • Voice selection

  • Style selection

  • Score display

  • Lyrics display

  • Text display

  • Recording

  • Menu navigation

SCORE DISPLAY

Compatible Song data can be displayed as music notation directly on the screen.

This can be particularly useful for:

  • Lessons

  • Practice

  • Learning new music

  • Following recorded Songs

LYRICS DISPLAY

Compatible Song files can display lyrics on screen.

Combined with the DGX-670’s microphone input, this makes the instrument useful for singing as well as keyboard performance.

LESSON & GUIDE FUNCTIONS

The DGX-670 provides Guide functions including:

  • Follow Lights

  • Any Key

  • Karao-Key

  • Your Tempo

These provide different approaches to learning and practising compatible Song material.

100 PRESET SONGS

The DGX-670 includes 100 preset Songs.

These can be used with the instrument’s playback, score-display and learning functions.

16-TRACK MIDI RECORDING

The DGX-670 provides a 16-track MIDI recorder.

This is significantly more powerful than the basic two-track recording found on many conventional digital pianos.

Separate musical parts can be recorded independently, making it possible to build detailed arrangements.

Yamaha specifies approximately 1MB per Song of recording capacity.

USB AUDIO RECORDING

Performances can also be recorded to compatible USB storage as:

44.1kHz / 16-bit stereo WAV audio

with a maximum recording time of approximately:

80 minutes per Song.

AUDIO PLAYBACK TOOLS

The DGX-670 provides:

Vocal Cancel

Reduce centrally positioned vocal material in suitable recordings.

Pitch Shift

Change the pitch of compatible audio without changing playback speed.

Time Stretch

Change playback speed without changing pitch.

These functions are particularly useful for learning and playing along with existing music.

MICROPHONE INPUT

The DGX-670 includes a standard mono microphone input.

This allows you to sing while playing or alongside Song playback.

BLUETOOTH AUDIO

The DGX-670 supports Bluetooth Audio, subject to regional availability.

Compatible music can be streamed wirelessly from a smartphone or tablet through the piano’s speakers.

CHORD TRACKER

The DGX-670 is compatible with Yamaha’s Chord Tracker app.

Chord Tracker can analyse suitable locally stored audio files and help identify the chord progression.

USB AUDIO INTERFACE

The DGX-670 provides a:

44.1kHz / 16-bit stereo USB Audio Interface

allowing digital audio communication with compatible computers and devices.

REGISTRATION MEMORY

The DGX-670 provides four Registration Memory buttons.

Registration features also include:

  • Registration Sequence

  • Freeze

These allow favourite combinations of Voices, Styles and settings to be stored for fast recall.

PLAYLIST

The Playlist can contain up to:

500 records

making it easier to organise registrations and settings for different songs.

TWO-WAY SPEAKER SYSTEM

The DGX-670 uses:

6W × 2 amplification

with:

  • 12cm speakers × 2

  • 5cm speakers × 2

The two-way layout separates larger mid/bass drivers from smaller high-frequency speakers, helping provide clearer reproduction across both piano and accompaniment material.

INTELLIGENT ACOUSTIC CONTROL

Intelligent Acoustic Control – IAC helps maintain tonal balance when the instrument is played at lower volumes.

This is particularly useful for home use.

STEREOPHONIC OPTIMIZER

The Stereophonic Optimizer is designed to create a more spacious listening experience when practising through headphones.

HEADPHONE PRACTICE

The DGX-670 includes a standard stereo headphone connection.

This allows completely private practice without using the internal speakers.

PEDAL OPTIONS

For a more traditional piano setup, the DGX-670 supports Yamaha’s optional:

LP-1WH three-pedal unit

when used with the compatible White stand configuration.

Compatible pedal accessories include:

  • LP-1B / LP-1WH

  • FC3A

  • FC4A

  • FC5

OPTIONAL L-300WH FURNITURE STAND

The White DGX-670 can be paired with Yamaha’s dedicated:

DGX-670 VS A CONVENTIONAL DIGITAL PIANO

A conventional digital piano generally prioritises:

  • Piano sound

  • Pedals

  • Simple controls

The DGX-670 provides these fundamentals but adds a much broader creative system.

It includes:

  • Hundreds of Voices

  • Automatic accompaniment

  • Lyrics

  • Score display

  • Microphone input

  • 16-track recording

For players who want one instrument capable of piano, accompaniment, recording and creative performance, the DGX-670 is considerably more versatile.

DGX-670 VS CVP CLAVINOVA

The DGX-670 shares several ideas with Yamaha’s CVP Clavinovas:

  • Weighted keyboard

  • Yamaha piano sound

  • Accompaniment Styles

  • Hundreds of Voices

  • Colour display

  • MIDI recording

  • Audio recording

  • Microphone input

The main difference is format.

DGX-670

  • Portable Grand design

  • Approx. 21.4kg

  • Stand and three-pedal unit optional

  • Easier to move

  • Lower-cost route into Yamaha’s arranger-piano concept

CVP

  • Integrated furniture cabinet

  • Built-in three-pedal system

  • More extensive premium feature sets depending on model

  • Designed primarily as a permanent home instrument

DGX-670WH VS DGX-670B

The musical specification is the same.

The difference is finish.

DGX-670WH

  • White

  • Matches L-300WH

  • Matches LP-1WH

  • Cleaner, lighter contemporary appearance

DGX-670B

  • Black

  • Matches L-300B

🎵 FAIR DEAL MUSIC EXPERT VERDICT ★★★★★

Best suited for: Pianists, families, singers and songwriters who want a proper 88-note weighted keyboard but would find a conventional digital piano too limited creatively.

Likely upgrade path: Particularly relevant for players moving from arranger keyboards who now want weighted piano keys, or portable-piano owners who want Styles, hundreds of Voices and much stronger recording functionality.

Useful pairings: The Yamaha L-300WH stand and LP-1WH three-pedal unit turn the DGX-670WH into a coordinated furniture-style home-piano setup while retaining its Portable Grand format.

Our tip: Decide first whether you genuinely want the arranger features. If all you need is straightforward piano practice, Yamaha’s simpler P-Series instruments may be easier to live with. But if you’ll use Styles, Voices, microphone input, recording or backing tracks, the DGX-670 gives you vastly more creative room.

FDM view: The DGX-670 occupies a very useful position in Yamaha’s range. You get an 88-note GHS action, CFX sound, VRM and 256-note polyphony, but also much of the interactive flexibility associated with an arranger instrument. In White, it also creates a particularly clean home setup when paired with Yamaha’s matching stand and pedal unit.
