Yamaha EZ-310 Key Lighting Keyboard
Description
INTRODUCTION
The Yamaha EZ-310 is a 61-key touch-sensitive portable keyboard designed to make learning music more visual, interactive and enjoyable.
Its standout feature is Yamaha’s Light Guide keyboard system. The keys illuminate to show you which notes to play, providing an intuitive visual guide that can be particularly helpful for complete beginners, younger musicians and anyone learning independently at home.
But the EZ-310 is much more than a simple learning keyboard.
With 650 Voices, 260 accompaniment Styles, 152 built-in Songs, 12 Super Articulation Lite Voices, Auto Chord Play, Smart Chord, Yamaha lesson functions and USB audio/MIDI connectivity, it combines beginner-friendly guidance with many of the creative features found on Yamaha’s more conventional portable keyboards.
Importantly, the keys are also touch sensitive, allowing the sound to respond to how firmly you play and helping developing musicians learn dynamics and expression.
Finished in distinctive white, the Yamaha EZ-310 is an excellent choice for players who want a keyboard that can actively help them through those important first steps while still offering plenty to explore as their confidence grows.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT
The EZ-310 tackles one of the biggest challenges facing a new keyboard player:
Which key am I supposed to play next?
Yamaha’s Light Guide system provides an immediate visual answer.
When using compatible learning material, the appropriate keys illuminate to help guide you around the keyboard. Instead of constantly moving your attention between printed music and the instrument, you have a visual indication directly beneath your fingers.
Combine that with Yamaha’s built-in lesson functions and the EZ-310 becomes a particularly approachable instrument for someone taking their first steps.
Crucially, Yamaha hasn't achieved that simplicity by turning the EZ-310 into a toy.
The keyboard is touch sensitive and provides a substantial collection of Voices, Styles, effects and creative functions, alongside USB audio and MIDI connectivity.
So while the illuminated keys help you get started, there is considerably more to discover once you can find the notes without them.
LIGHT GUIDE – FOLLOW THE LIGHTS
The defining feature of the Yamaha EZ-310 is its Light Guide keyboard.
Individual keys illuminate to provide visual guidance while learning compatible Songs.
For someone who has never played before, this can make the relationship between the notes in a Song and their physical positions on the keyboard considerably easier to understand.
Rather than simply telling you what to play, the instrument can visually show you where to play it.
This can be particularly useful for:
-
Complete beginners
-
Younger learners
-
Self-taught players
-
Visual learners
-
Home practice
-
Building keyboard familiarity
-
Learning note positions
-
Developing hand coordination
As your playing improves, you can increasingly rely on your own note recognition rather than the lights.
TOUCH-SENSITIVE 61-KEY KEYBOARD
Unlike many basic beginner keyboards, the EZ-310 combines its illuminated learning system with touch-sensitive keys.
The keyboard responds to how firmly you play.
Play gently and the sound becomes softer.
Play more firmly and the sound becomes louder.
Touch Response can be adjusted between:
-
Soft
-
Medium
-
Hard
-
Off
This is an important feature for a developing musician because learning a piece isn't only about playing the correct notes.
Dynamics — controlling how softly or loudly those notes are played — are fundamental to musical expression.
The EZ-310 therefore helps with both sides of early learning:
The lights help you find the notes. Touch sensitivity helps you learn to play them expressively.
650 VOICES
The Yamaha EZ-310 provides 650 instrument Voices covering a huge variety of musical sounds.
The library includes:
-
Acoustic pianos
-
Electric pianos
-
Organs
-
Guitars
-
Bass guitars
-
Strings
-
Brass
-
Woodwind
-
Synthesizers
-
Orchestral instruments
-
Drums
-
Percussion
-
Sound effects
This means a beginner isn't restricted to practising everything with one basic keyboard sound.
The same melody can be explored using completely different instruments, making practice more varied and encouraging musical experimentation.
SUPER ARTICULATION LITE
The EZ-310 includes 12 Super Articulation Lite Voices.
Super Articulation Lite technology helps selected Voices reproduce some of the characteristic performance details associated with the original acoustic instrument.
Depending on the selected Voice and performance, this can introduce additional instrumental articulations that make the sound feel more realistic.
It is particularly effective with sounds such as guitars, where the noises and techniques involved in playing the real instrument form an important part of its character.
YAMAHA AWM STEREO SAMPLING
The EZ-310 uses Yamaha’s AWM Stereo Sampling sound technology.
This provides the foundation for its instrument Voices and draws upon Yamaha’s extensive experience creating digital keyboards and pianos.
For a beginner, the important benefit is straightforward: enjoyable, musical sounds make practising more rewarding.
260 ACCOMPANIMENT STYLES
The EZ-310 includes 260 automatic accompaniment Styles covering a broad selection of musical genres.
A Style can provide a complete backing arrangement including:
-
Drums
-
Bass
-
Chords
-
Additional instrumental parts
Play chords with the appropriate section of the keyboard and the accompaniment can follow you automatically.
This turns a simple keyboard performance into something that feels much closer to playing with a band.
For learners, accompaniment Styles can also help develop:
-
Timing
-
Rhythm
-
Chord recognition
-
Coordination
-
Song structure
-
Confidence
SMART CHORD
You don't need to know complicated chord shapes before you can enjoy the accompaniment system.
Smart Chord allows beginners to produce suitable accompaniment chords from simpler input.
This lets a new player experience a full musical backing at an earlier stage of learning.
As your chord knowledge develops, you can progress towards more conventional chord control.
AUTO CHORD PLAY
The EZ-310 includes Auto Chord Play with 50 preset chord progressions.
Select a progression and the keyboard can take care of the chord sequence while the accompaniment plays.
This frees you to concentrate on:
-
Right-hand melodies
-
Timing
-
Improvisation
-
Learning note positions
-
Exploring different Voices
For beginners who haven't yet developed confident left-hand chord technique, this can make playing along with a complete arrangement much more accessible.
152 BUILT-IN SONGS
The EZ-310 includes 152 preset Songs.
These provide ready-made material for listening, learning and practising with the keyboard's educational functions.
The combination of built-in Songs, Light Guide keys and Yamaha’s lesson system is what makes the EZ-310 particularly distinctive.
Instead of simply giving you Songs to listen to, the keyboard is designed to help you work through them.
KEYS TO SUCCESS
Keys to Success divides a Song into manageable learning stages.
Rather than trying to master the entire piece immediately, you can work through smaller sections before combining them into the complete performance.
For a new player, this can make learning feel much less daunting.
3-STEP LESSON
Yamaha’s lesson system provides different ways to practise, including:
-
Listening
-
Timing
-
Waiting
Each mode focuses on a different part of the learning process.
Listening
Hear how the music should sound before attempting it yourself.
Timing
Concentrate on playing at the correct moment.
Waiting
The Song can wait for you to play the correct note before continuing.
Waiting mode works particularly well alongside the illuminated Light Guide keyboard because you can see the note you need and play at your own pace.
TOUCH TUTOR
Because the EZ-310 has touch-sensitive keys, learning can go beyond simply hitting the correct notes.
Touch Tutor helps develop control over how strongly the keyboard is played.
This encourages better dynamic technique and helps beginners understand that musical expression depends on how a note is played as well as which note is selected.
CHORD STUDY & CHORD DICTIONARY
The EZ-310 also provides tools for learning chords.
Chord Study introduces chord playing through structured material, while Chord Dictionary helps you understand how different chords are formed on the keyboard.
These features become increasingly useful as you begin exploring accompaniment Styles and playing songs independently.
41 DSP EFFECTS
The EZ-310 includes 41 DSP effect types.
Digital Signal Processing can add effects to compatible sounds to give them additional character.
Depending on the Voice, this can help create more convincing guitar, synth and other processed sounds.
REVERB & CHORUS
The effects system also includes:
-
15 Reverb types
-
7 Chorus types
Reverb adds a sense of acoustic space.
Chorus can add width and richness.
Together, these help individual Voices feel more polished and musical.
152 ARPEGGIO TYPES
The EZ-310 provides 152 Arpeggio types.
Hold notes or a chord and the keyboard can automatically transform them into rhythmic patterns.
Arpeggios are particularly useful for:
-
Pop
-
Electronic music
-
Synth parts
-
Guitar-style patterns
-
Improvisation
-
Songwriting
They also demonstrate how relatively simple chords can become more complex musical phrases.
26 HARMONY TYPES
There are 26 Harmony types.
Harmony functions can automatically add musically appropriate additional notes to supported melodies.
This can make a simple right-hand performance sound fuller while also introducing beginners to the relationship between melody and harmony.
DUAL VOICE
Dual allows two Voices to be layered.
For example:
-
Piano + Strings
-
Piano + Pad
-
Organ + Strings
-
Two Synth Voices
Layering is an easy way to create richer sounds without requiring any additional equipment.
SPLIT KEYBOARD
Split allows different sounds to be assigned to the left and right areas of the keyboard.
For example, you might play:
-
Bass with the left hand and piano with the right
-
Strings on one side and piano on the other
This introduces beginners to performance techniques commonly used on more advanced keyboards.
DUO MODE
Duo Mode divides the keyboard into two equivalent pitch ranges.
Two people can then sit side by side and play notes in matching registers.
This is particularly useful for:
-
Teacher and student lessons
-
Parent and child practice
-
Demonstrating fingering
-
Two-player exercises
For a keyboard designed around learning, Duo Mode is a particularly useful addition.
MUSIC DATABASE
The EZ-310 provides a 200-entry Music Database.
Select an appropriate entry and the keyboard can recall suitable Voice and Style settings.
For beginners who don't yet know which sounds and accompaniments work well together, Music Database provides a quick route to a usable setup.
ONE TOUCH SETTING
One Touch Setting can automatically select a suitable Voice for the accompaniment Style you are using.
This reduces setup time and lets a beginner concentrate on playing rather than navigating through hundreds of sounds.
REGISTRATION MEMORY
Favourite keyboard configurations can be stored using Registration Memory.
Once you find combinations of sounds and settings you particularly enjoy, they can be saved for quicker recall.
This becomes increasingly useful as you start using the EZ-310 for more than basic lessons.
TWO-TRACK RECORDING
The built-in recorder supports:
-
Up to 5 User Songs
-
2 recording tracks
-
Approximately 10,000 notes
Recording yourself can be one of the most useful ways to improve.
While playing, much of your concentration is occupied by finding notes and keeping time.
Listening back afterwards can make mistakes or timing problems much easier to identify.
The two-track recorder also allows separate parts to be captured and combined.
USB AUDIO & MIDI
The EZ-310 supports USB audio and MIDI connectivity with compatible devices.
This gives the keyboard considerably more flexibility as the player's interests develop.
Potential applications include:
-
Music education software
-
MIDI recording
-
Computer-based music making
-
Compatible apps
-
Digital audio recording
For a beginner keyboard, this connectivity helps ensure the instrument remains useful beyond the earliest stages of learning.
REC'N'SHARE COMPATIBILITY
The EZ-310 can be used with Yamaha’s supported Rec'n'Share workflow on compatible smart devices.
This is designed to make creating audio/video performance content easier.
For learners, recording progress can also be a fun way to hear how their playing improves over time.
AUX INPUT
The AUX IN connection allows audio from a compatible external device to be played through the EZ-310.
This is useful for playing along with:
-
Favourite songs
-
Backing tracks
-
Lesson material
-
Practice recordings
HEADPHONE CONNECTION
The PHONES/OUTPUT connection allows compatible headphones to be used for quiet practice.
This is particularly useful in family homes, flats or anywhere you want to practise without disturbing other people.
SUSTAIN PEDAL COMPATIBILITY
A compatible sustain footswitch can be connected.
A sustain pedal allows notes to continue ringing after the keys are released and is particularly useful when developing piano-style playing technique.
BUILT-IN SPEAKERS
The EZ-310 has its own stereo speaker system with:
-
Two 12cm speakers
-
2.5W + 2.5W amplification
That means it is completely self-contained for everyday home practice.
You do not need external speakers simply to start playing.
BATTERY OR MAINS OPERATION
The EZ-310 can operate using mains power or six AA batteries.
Battery operation makes the keyboard easy to move between rooms, take to lessons or use in situations where convenient mains power is unavailable.
Its relatively lightweight design also makes it practical as a genuinely portable learning instrument.
