Why Choose The Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster?
Premium First-Generation American Deluxe Design
The first-generation American Deluxe was positioned as Fender’s higher-specification production Stratocaster, retaining the classic instrument’s identity while adding upgraded hardware and more modern player-focused appointments.
Teal Green Transparent Ash Body
Fender’s April 2000 service documentation specifically lists Teal Green Transparent with its solid ash American Deluxe body, giving this version both a distinctive finish and visible natural wood grain.
Noise-Free Stratocaster Electronics
Three Fender noise-free single-coil pickups retain the familiar SSS Stratocaster format while reducing the unwanted hum normally associated with traditional single coils, particularly useful for live stages, recording and higher-gain pedal setups.
Locking Tuners
Factory locking tuning machines make restringing straightforward and help provide a stable foundation for players who regularly use the tremolo system.
Deluxe Two-Point Tremolo
The American Deluxe bridge uses a two-point pivot design with a pop-in tremolo arm, providing smoother operation than a traditional six-screw vintage-style bridge while retaining classic Strat pitch control.
Comparison Against Popular Alternatives
American Deluxe Stratocaster vs American Standard Stratocaster
The American Standard provides the core USA Stratocaster experience, while the American Deluxe adds more premium appointments such as locking tuners, noise-reducing pickups and upgraded tremolo hardware, making it better suited to players who value additional performance features.
American Deluxe Stratocaster vs Modern American Professional II
The American Professional II offers Fender’s current interpretation of the professional Stratocaster, whereas this 2000 American Deluxe provides genuine turn-of-the-millennium USA Fender character and features associated with the first generation of the Deluxe range.
American Deluxe Stratocaster vs Fender Strat Plus
The Strat Plus came before the American Deluxe as one of Fender’s premium modern Stratocasters. The American Deluxe took over that high-performance role in the late 1990s with a revised specification and a new identity for Fender’s premium production range.
American Deluxe Stratocaster vs Vintage-Style Stratocaster
A vintage-inspired Strat prioritises period-style hardware and traditional specifications, while the American Deluxe is better suited to players who want recognisable Strat tone and ergonomics with more contemporary hardware and playing practicality.
Who Is It For?
Players Wanting A Premium USA Stratocaster
A strong option for guitarists who want the versatility of a traditional Strat while benefiting from the additional appointments fitted to Fender’s Deluxe range.
Blues, Rock And Pop Guitarists
The SSS pickup layout provides plenty of clean articulation, expressive lead response and compatibility with overdrive, making it useful across a wide range of mainstream guitar styles.
Funk And Soul Players
Clear single-coil attack and five-way pickup selection make the Stratocaster format particularly effective for articulate clean rhythm work.
Studio And Live Guitarists
Noise-reducing pickups and locking tuners add practical advantages for recording sessions and stage work where consistency and lower unwanted noise can be particularly useful.

What Makes The Early American Deluxe Stratocaster Different?
The original American Deluxe series combined traditional Fender design with features aimed at the modern professional player. Rather than turning the Stratocaster into a completely different instrument, Fender concentrated on practical upgrades including noise-reducing pickups, locking tuning machines and an enhanced two-point tremolo system.
This 2000 example predates the later S-1 switching versions, giving it a relatively straightforward five-way SSS control arrangement. That makes the first-generation American Deluxe particularly attractive to players who want premium features without a more complicated switching system.

Story & Context: Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster
The American Deluxe Stratocaster arrived in 1998 as Fender reshaped the upper end of its regular USA production range. It effectively succeeded the Strat Plus as Fender’s premium, performance-focused Stratocaster and was designed to combine the familiar look and feel of the instrument with contemporary upgrades for working players.
One of the defining developments of this first generation was Fender’s use of noise-reducing Strat pickups alongside locking tuners and Deluxe tremolo hardware. The approach was evolutionary rather than radical: the Stratocaster remained visually and functionally familiar, but key hardware and electronics were updated for the expectations of late-1990s and early-2000s musicians.
The Teal Green Transparent finish was among the more distinctive colours available during this period and was paired with an ash body, allowing the wood grain to remain part of the guitar’s appearance. Fender’s April 2000 service documentation specifically records the finish within the American Deluxe range.
That makes this serial Z0055543 guitar an interesting example from the early years of the American Deluxe story, before later revisions introduced features such as S-1 switching and further changes to Fender’s Noiseless pickup technology.

Frequently Asked Questions
What string gauge works well on an American Deluxe Stratocaster?
A 9–42 set provides the familiar lighter Strat feel, while 10–46 gives a slightly firmer response. Significant changes in gauge can require a tremolo and intonation adjustment.
Can this guitar be used with modern pedals and amp modellers?
Yes. Its conventional passive output works with traditional amplifiers, pedalboards, multi-effects units, amp-modelling systems and compatible audio interfaces.
Are Noiseless-style pickups useful for recording?
They can be particularly useful when recording in environments where conventional single-coil hum becomes distracting, while still retaining the response and flexibility expected from a Stratocaster-style pickup configuration.
Are locking tuners only useful when using the tremolo?
No. Locking tuners also simplify restringing by reducing the amount of string that needs to be wound around each tuner post.
Can the two-point tremolo be adjusted to float?
Yes. Stratocaster tremolo setup can be tailored to player preference, including floating or more restricted movement. Larger setup changes can affect action and intonation and should be considered as part of the overall guitar setup.
Can I request a closer look at this guitar before purchasing?
Yes. For an individual Pre-Owned instrument such as this, our Request a Video Demo option is useful if you would like a closer look before making your decision.
