What Makes The Gibson Les Paul Standard Special?
The Les Paul Standard combines a mahogany body with a carved maple top, set mahogany neck and dual-humbucker electronics to create one of the most recognisable sounds and playing experiences in electric guitar history. The mahogany provides depth and sustain while the maple top adds definition and attack, making the design particularly effective for driven rhythm and lead tones.
Heritage Cherry Sunburst reinforces the guitar's traditional identity, allowing the figuring of the maple top to remain visible beneath one of Gibson's most recognisable finishes. Combined with the bound rosewood fingerboard and classic Les Paul hardware, it gives this example the timeless appearance closely associated with late-'50s-inspired Gibson instruments.
Key Features & Benefits
Figured Maple Top
The carved figured maple top gives each Les Paul Standard an individual appearance while complementing the mahogany body's naturally strong midrange response with additional definition and attack.
Mahogany Body And Set Neck
Traditional mahogany construction contributes to the sustain, warmth and substantial response that remain fundamental to the Les Paul sound.
Twin Humbucker Electronics
The two-humbucker format provides a broad tonal range, with a warmer neck position for smooth leads and cleans alongside a more focused bridge voice for rock rhythm and overdriven sounds.
Independent Volume And Tone Controls
Each pickup has its own volume and tone control, allowing the two pickup sounds to be balanced and blended in considerably greater detail than a master-control system.
Rosewood Fingerboard
The bound rosewood fingerboard provides the familiar feel and visual character expected from a traditional Les Paul Standard, complete with trapezoid position inlays.
ABR-1 And Stopbar Hardware
The traditional Tune-O-Matic bridge and stopbar tailpiece provide dependable intonation adjustment and solid string anchoring while preserving the classic Les Paul layout.
Comparison Against Popular Alternatives
Gibson Les Paul Standard vs Les Paul Classic
The Les Paul Classic traditionally introduces a more performance-oriented specification, depending on production year, while the Standard focuses more strongly on the traditional premium Les Paul formula and classic visual presentation.
Gibson Les Paul Standard vs Gibson SG Standard
Both use set-neck Gibson construction and twin humbuckers, but the SG has a significantly thinner, lighter body with easier upper-fret access. The Les Paul offers a more substantial physical feel and the tonal contribution of its carved maple top.
Gibson Les Paul Standard vs Les Paul Custom
The Les Paul Custom adds more elaborate visual appointments and its own construction and tonal identity. The Standard provides the archetypal Sunburst Les Paul appearance and remains the reference point for players looking for the classic Les Paul format.
Who Is It For?
Blues guitarists – The shorter Gibson scale and neck humbucker provide an expressive platform for bends, vibrato and responsive overdrive.
Classic rock players – Few electric guitar formats are as strongly associated with overdriven rock tones as a Les Paul Standard.
Hard rock guitarists – The bridge humbucker provides the weight and definition required for powerful riffs and lead work.
Studio musicians – Independent pickup controls and two contrasting humbucker positions make the Les Paul useful across a wide range of recording situations.
Players wanting a premium USA Gibson – The Les Paul Standard remains one of Gibson's defining American-made professional instruments.

Why Choose A Gibson Les Paul Standard?
The Les Paul Standard remains popular because its design combines powerful pickups, excellent sustain and straightforward controls with a highly distinctive physical response.
Its 24.75" scale gives the strings a slightly softer feel than a longer Fender-style scale, while the carved maple-over-mahogany body construction creates a balance of warmth, attack and midrange weight that works especially well with overdriven amplifiers.
The four-control electronics also make the Les Paul more flexible than they initially appear. With separate volume and tone controls for each pickup, players can preset contrasting rhythm and lead sounds or blend both pickups together for more nuanced tones.
Story & Context
The Gibson Les Paul Standard dates back to the 1950s and became one of the defining solid-body electric guitar designs through its combination of carved maple and mahogany construction, set neck and twin humbuckers.
Gibson returned the modern Les Paul Standard range to a more traditional formula in 2019, placing greater emphasis on the features and styling associated with the model's classic era.
Serial number 232810360 dates this particular guitar to 2021, placing it within that modern generation of traditionally styled Gibson USA Les Paul Standards.
