Description
The ARTcessories DTI Dual Transformer / Isolator is a professional two-channel passive audio isolation device designed to reduce unwanted hum, ground-loop noise and interference when connecting different pieces of audio equipment. Featuring two high-quality isolation transformers and a versatile selection of XLR, ¼-inch jack and RCA connections, the DTI provides a practical solution for achieving cleaner audio signals in recording studios, live sound systems, DJ setups and permanent installations.
Manufactured by ART (Applied Research and Technology), the DTI uses transformer-based galvanic isolation to separate the signal grounds of connected equipment. This helps eliminate noise caused by unwanted ground-loop currents while maintaining a clean, transparent audio signal.
Unlike many powered signal-processing devices, the ARTcessories DTI features a completely passive design, requiring no batteries, external power supply or mains connection. Its two independent transformer channels can accommodate stereo signals or two separate mono connections, making it exceptionally versatile.
The compact anodised aluminium enclosure offers excellent durability, while the wide 10Hz–50kHz frequency response makes the DTI suitable for a broad range of professional audio applications.
This particular ARTcessories DTI is presented in Good Pre-Owned Condition, making it an affordable and practical addition to any studio, live sound or audio installation setup.

Why You'll Love It
The ARTcessories DTI is one of those simple audio problem-solving tools that can make a significant difference to a recording or live sound setup.
Ground-loop hum can occur when multiple pieces of equipment are connected to different electrical systems or share unwanted ground paths. The DTI addresses this problem by using transformer isolation, allowing audio signals to pass while separating the signal grounds.
Its broad range of connection types is a particular advantage. With XLR, ¼-inch jack and RCA sockets available on both channels, the DTI can accommodate numerous combinations of professional and consumer audio equipment.
Because it requires no external power, the DTI is also exceptionally convenient. There are no batteries to replace, power adapters to locate or spare sockets required.
For musicians, producers, DJs and sound engineers who regularly connect multiple pieces of equipment, the ARTcessories DTI is a useful addition to any audio toolkit.
Detailed Features & Benefits
Dual-Channel Transformer Isolation
The ARTcessories DTI features two independent high-performance audio transformers designed to electrically isolate the signal grounds between connected devices. This transformer-based approach is particularly effective when unwanted currents flowing through shared ground connections introduce audible humming or buzzing into an audio system. By separating the signal grounds while allowing the audio signal to pass, the DTI can reduce ground-loop noise without requiring complex electronic processing, making it a practical solution for a wide variety of audio installations.
High-Quality 1:1 Audio Transformers
The DTI's transformers are wound for a nominal 1:1 ratio, meaning the device is designed to maintain the incoming signal level rather than intentionally boosting or reducing it. These transformers are engineered to handle relatively high signal levels while maintaining a broad, flat frequency response, making them suitable for professional line-level audio connections. As with any transformer-based device, actual insertion loss depends on the source and load impedances, but the DTI is designed to preserve the original signal with minimal audible coloration in appropriate applications.
XLR, TRS & RCA Connectivity
One of the DTI's strongest features is its flexible connection arrangement, with XLR, ¼-inch TRS and RCA sockets available for both channels. This allows it to accommodate professional balanced audio connections, conventional jack-based equipment and consumer-style RCA signals without requiring a separate isolator for every connector format. The flexibility is particularly useful when integrating mixers, audio interfaces, DJ equipment, keyboards and playback devices into one system, although suitable cables and the correct input and output connections are still required.
Stereo or Dual Mono Operation
Because the DTI features two completely separate transformer channels, it can be used for a stereo left-and-right audio signal or two individual mono connections. This is particularly useful in studio monitoring systems, where both left and right channels may require isolation, and in live sound environments where two independent signals need to be connected to different pieces of equipment. The dual-channel design allows musicians and engineers to solve multiple connection problems with one compact unit.
Reducing Ground-Loop Hum
Ground-loop noise can arise when audio devices are connected through multiple grounding paths, creating unwanted current flow that becomes audible as low-frequency hum or buzzing. The DTI's transformers provide galvanic isolation between the input and output signal grounds, breaking the conductive signal-ground path responsible for many common noise problems. This can be particularly effective when connecting computers, audio interfaces, mixers, amplifiers and other equipment powered from different electrical connections. The DTI is not a substitute for correcting electrical faults or unsafe mains wiring.
Completely Passive Design
The ARTcessories DTI requires no external power because its transformers operate directly from the incoming audio signals. This makes it extremely convenient for portable audio setups and permanent installations alike, as it can simply be placed in the appropriate signal path without additional power cables or adapters. The passive design also avoids introducing a separate powered circuit into the audio system, making the DTI a dependable option for applications where simplicity and minimal equipment requirements are important.
Wide Frequency Response & Low Distortion
The DTI features a manufacturer-specified frequency response of 10Hz to 50kHz within ±0.5dB at +4dBu, extending beyond the normal range of human hearing. This broad response is intended to preserve low-frequency weight, midrange detail and high-frequency clarity across a wide variety of musical and audio sources. With typical total harmonic distortion of just 0.01% at 1kHz and +18dBu, the unit is designed to provide clean and transparent transformer isolation when operated within its intended specifications.
Compact Aluminium Construction
The DTI is housed in a compact black anodised aluminium enclosure designed for regular use in professional audio environments. Its solid construction makes it suitable for studio desks, equipment racks, live sound toolkits and DJ installations, while its relatively small dimensions allow it to fit conveniently alongside other equipment. The straightforward connection layout also makes the unit easy to install, with no menus, switches or electronic settings to configure.

How It Compares
ARTcessories DTI vs ART CleanBOX Pro
The ART CleanBOX Pro is an active level-conversion device designed to convert between consumer and professional audio signal levels, making it useful when equipment operates at different nominal levels. The DTI is a passive transformer isolator intended primarily to reduce ground-loop noise while maintaining approximately unity gain. Players and engineers seeking galvanic isolation without powered level conversion may prefer the DTI, while those needing active signal-level conversion may find the CleanBOX Pro more appropriate.
ARTcessories DTI vs Conventional DI Box
A conventional DI box is often designed to convert a high-impedance unbalanced instrument signal into a low-impedance balanced signal suitable for a mixing desk's microphone input. The DTI serves a different purpose, providing transformer isolation between compatible audio connections without the conventional impedance transformation or signal attenuation associated with many DI boxes. For instruments connecting directly to microphone preamps, a dedicated DI box may be preferable, while the DTI is particularly useful for isolating existing line-level signal paths.
ARTcessories DTI vs Stereo Ground-Loop Isolators
Basic consumer ground-loop isolators often provide only RCA or 3.5mm connections and may be designed for relatively narrow applications. The ARTcessories DTI offers a more versatile solution through its professional XLR, ¼-inch TRS and RCA connectors, along with transformers designed to handle higher signal levels and a wide frequency range. This makes it particularly attractive for musicians and audio engineers who regularly work with different kinds of equipment.
