Add 12 built-in effects, 1W power reduction, six patch locations, USB-C recording and re-amping, CabRig Lite speaker simulation, TRRS phone streaming, a chromatic tuner and optional footswitch control, and the Stereo 20 becomes a particularly capable choice for home practice, learning, songwriting and recording.

Why Choose The Blackstar ID:CORE V4 Stereo 20?

Super Wide Stereo In A Compact Practice Amp

The Stereo 20 uses two separate 10-watt output channels and two 5-inch speakers to create Blackstar's Super Wide Stereo sound. Stereo modulation, delay and reverb can spread across the two speakers, giving practice sounds a sense of width and space that a conventional mono practice amplifier cannot reproduce in the same way.

Six Core Guitar Voices

The Voice control provides six immediately accessible amp sounds:

  • Clean Warm

  • Clean Bright

  • Crunch

  • Super Crunch

  • OD1

  • OD2

That gives you a logical progression from clean rhythm sounds through blues and rock crunch to more saturated modern distortion without needing to navigate menus.

12 Built-In Stereo Effects

The ID:CORE V4 Stereo 20 includes four modulation, four delay and four reverb effects. Effects from the three categories can be combined, giving you plenty of scope for chorus cleans, slapback sounds, spacious delays, ambient reverbs and heavier effected tones without buying a separate pedalboard.

Full 20W Or 1W Practice Mode

Twenty watts gives the Stereo 20 plenty of presence for everyday practice, but that much output is not always necessary. Blackstar's 1W power-reduction mode provides a more manageable setting for quieter practice and recording.

Simple Controls With Deeper Editing When You Want It

The main sounds can be created directly from the amplifier using familiar Voice, Gain, Volume, ISF and effects controls.

If you want to go deeper, Blackstar Architect provides more detailed editing, patch management and access to CabRig Lite. The result is an amp that remains approachable for a beginner without becoming restrictive as their knowledge develops.

Blackstar ID:CORE V4 Stereo 20 vs Popular Alternatives

Blackstar ID:CORE V4 Stereo 10

The ID:CORE V4 Stereo 10 offers the same six-voice concept, effects system, USB-C recording and Super Wide Stereo approach in a smaller 10W format with two 3-inch speakers. The Stereo 20 is the stronger choice for players wanting greater output, larger 5-inch speakers and optional footswitch control.

Blackstar ID:CORE V4 Stereo 40

The ID:CORE V4 Stereo 40 doubles the total output to 40W and uses two larger 6.5-inch speakers. It offers more physical presence and headroom, while the Stereo 20 remains an excellent sweet spot for players whose main priorities are home practice, compact size and straightforward recording.

Blackstar ID:X 50

The Blackstar ID:X 50 moves towards a more performance-focused format with 50W output, a 12-inch Anthem speaker and switchable 50W, 10W and 1W power levels. It is the better option for guitarists planning louder rehearsals and more performance use. The ID:CORE V4 Stereo 20 is better suited to compact home setups where Super Wide Stereo and portability take priority.

BOSS Katana-50 Gen 3

The BOSS Katana-50 Gen 3 uses a more traditional 50W 1x12 combo format and provides substantially more stage-oriented output. Choose the Katana when a larger single speaker and greater rehearsal capability are priorities; choose the Blackstar when you want a lighter home-focused amplifier with immersive stereo effects and straightforward direct-to-phone streaming.

Who Is The Blackstar ID:CORE V4 Stereo 20 For?

The ID:CORE V4 Stereo 20 is particularly well suited to:

  • Beginners buying their first serious guitar amplifier

  • Developing players upgrading from a basic starter amp

  • Home guitarists who want varied tones without a pedalboard

  • Students learning songs across different genres

  • Players who enjoy experimenting with effects

  • Guitarists practising along with backing tracks

  • Home-recording musicians

  • Content creators recording guitar videos

  • Players who need quieter 1W operation

  • Guitarists who want optional footswitch control as their setup develops

Suitable Genres And Uses

With six amp voices, the ID:CORE V4 Stereo 20 can cover a broad range of music including pop, funk, blues, indie, country, classic rock, alternative, hard rock and modern high-gain guitar.

The combination of stereo modulation, delay and reverb is particularly useful for ambient playing and spacious clean tones, while OD1 and OD2 give rock and heavier players plenty of gain without requiring an external distortion pedal.

Its recording and streaming capabilities also make it useful beyond daily practice, whether you're writing demos, recording guitar ideas, following online lessons or creating guitar content.

Why Choose A Stereo Guitar Amp For Home Practice?

Traditional guitar amplifiers generally use a single mono speaker path. The ID:CORE V4 Stereo 20 takes a different approach by splitting its output across two speakers and using Blackstar's Super Wide Stereo processing.

The biggest benefit appears when effects are involved. Chorus, delay and reverb can create movement and width across the stereo image, making a relatively compact practice setup sound much more spacious. For players who regularly use effects or practise along with backing tracks, that can make everyday home playing noticeably more immersive.

USB-C Recording, Re-Amping & CabRig Lite

The ID:CORE V4 Stereo 20 can connect directly to a compatible computer via USB-C, allowing the amplifier itself to become part of your recording setup.

Its USB implementation can send four simultaneous audio channels, including stereo processed signals, a pre-effects signal and a completely dry guitar signal. Recording the dry channel gives you the option to re-amp the performance later and experiment with different amplifier settings without playing the original part again.

CabRig Lite adds Blackstar's configurable speaker simulation, giving direct recordings a miked-guitar-cabinet character without requiring you to place a physical microphone in front of the amp.

Direct-To-Phone Streaming

The Line In / Streaming connection supports compatible TRRS connections for sending and receiving audio with suitable mobile devices.

That makes the Stereo 20 particularly useful for guitarists recording demonstration videos, livestreaming, producing social content or simply working with mobile-based music applications without building a complicated audio setup.

Story & Context

Blackstar developed the ID:CORE range around the idea that a programmable guitar amplifier could still feel immediate and familiar. Rather than forcing players through complicated menus to find a basic sound, the series centres around six clearly defined guitar voices, Blackstar's ISF tone shaping and physical effects controls.

The V4 generation expands the recording and home-use side of the range, bringing USB-C connectivity, direct TRRS streaming, CabRig Lite speaker simulation and 1W power reduction into the ID:CORE platform.

The Stereo 20 occupies a useful middle position in the V4 family. It gives you more output and larger speakers than the compact Stereo 10 while remaining noticeably smaller and lighter than the Stereo 40, making it a particularly sensible all-round choice for home guitarists.

Connectivity & Compatibility

The ID:CORE V4 Stereo 20 provides a particularly flexible setup for home guitarists. Backing tracks and external audio can be connected through the Line In / Streaming socket, while headphones give you an alternative when the internal speakers cannot be used.

USB-C provides computer recording, re-amping and Architect software integration, while the optional FS-11, FS-18 or FS-22 lets you expand the amp with hands-free control.

Standard guitar effects pedals can also be placed before the main guitar input, although many players will find that the amp's built-in modulation, delay and reverb already cover a large amount of everyday practice territory.

Power Requirements

The Blackstar ID:CORE V4 Stereo 20 uses the supplied detachable DC power supply for normal operation.

It is also compatible with Blackstar's optional PB-1 PowerBank, providing an alternative portable power solution when access to a conventional mains outlet is inconvenient.

The PB-1 is sold separately.

Fair Deal Music Verdict 🎡

β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜…β˜… 5/5

The Blackstar ID:CORE V4 Stereo 20 is arguably the sweet spot in the regular ID:CORE V4 range for the typical home guitarist. It has noticeably more output and speaker presence than the Stereo 10 without moving into the larger dimensions of the Stereo 40.

More importantly, it gives developing players plenty of room to grow. The six voices and 12 stereo effects are easy to use from day one, while USB-C recording, re-amping, CabRig Lite, Architect editing and optional footswitch controlbecome increasingly useful as your playing and recording setup develops.

Best suited for: Beginners, developing guitarists and home-recording players
Customers usually upgrade from: Mini amps and basic 5W–10W starter guitar amplifiers
Most commonly paired with: Electric guitars, headphones, compatible footswitches and USB-C recording setups
Our tip: Experiment with the stereo delay and modulation effects while sitting directly in front of the amp – Super Wide Stereo is one of the biggest reasons to choose the ID:CORE over a conventional mono practice amplifier.
Showroom feedback: The Stereo 20 is a particularly balanced choice for customers who want more than a basic starter amp but do not need the size or output of a rehearsal-focused 1x12 combo.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Blackstar ID:CORE V4 Stereo 20 good for beginners?

Yes. Its six clearly labelled amp voices make it easy to move from clean sounds through crunch and high gain, while the physical controls mean you can start playing without learning complicated software. Architect provides deeper editing when you are ready for it.

How loud is the ID:CORE V4 Stereo 20?

It delivers 20 watts in stereo as 2 x 10W. That gives it more presence than a small desktop or mini amp while remaining primarily suited to home practice, learning and recording.

Can I make the ID:CORE V4 Stereo 20 quieter?

Yes. A dedicated power-reduction function drops the amplifier to 1 watt, making it easier to manage for quieter practice and recording.

Can I use headphones?

Yes. The CabRig/Phones connection lets you practise through headphones and uses Blackstar's speaker-simulation technology to provide a more natural direct guitar sound.

Can I record directly into a computer?

Yes. The USB-C connection allows direct multichannel recording, so a separate audio interface is not essential for straightforward guitar recording.

What is re-amping?

Re-amping lets you record a dry guitar performance and process it through different amplifier settings later. The ID:CORE V4 can capture an untreated guitar signal alongside the processed sound, giving you the flexibility to change tones after recording the performance.

Does the ID:CORE V4 Stereo 20 have Bluetooth?

No. The Stereo 20 does not include Bluetooth audio. External music and backing tracks can instead be connected through the Line In / Streaming connection. Within the standard V4 range, Bluetooth audio is offered on the dedicated ID:CORE V4 Stereo 10 Bluetooth model.

Can I control the amp with a footswitch?

Yes. The Stereo 20 is compatible with Blackstar FS-11, FS-18 and FS-22 footswitches. These are sold separately.

Should I choose the Stereo 20 or Stereo 40?

Choose the Stereo 20 if home practice, recording, compact dimensions and portability are your priorities. Choose the Stereo 40 if you want greater output and the fuller physical response of its larger 6.5-inch speakers.
