Boss has crammed the iconic Roland RE-201 Space Echo sounds into a little pedal! The tape-based RE-201, which was introduced in 1974, rapidly became a favourite among guitarists and studio wizards who appreciated its unusual rhythmic echo tones, warm texture, and extremely playable sonic oddities. The Roland RE-201, on the other hand, was produced for just over 14 years, making authentic functional devices uncommon and highly sought-after.

But now you can use the Boss RE-2 to recreate the Space Echo's captivating tones! It recreates the coveted enchantment of the RE-201 in a pedalboard-friendly footprint with dependable digital circuitry, as designed by the same firm that created the original.

Overview:

Boss has successfully reproduced all of the complex, non-linear behaviours that lead to the RE-201's legendary sound with the RE-2. They've guaranteed that all of the captivating acoustic qualities — including the tape path, record/playback mechanism, motor fluctuations, preamp coloration, spring reverb sound, and more — have been faithfully recorded and recreated courtesy of all-new algorithms by analysing multiple old devices.

The 11-position mode selector on the Boss RE-2 lets you to dial in multiple virtual tape heads with or without spring reverb. With independent level knobs, you may also adjust the echo/reverb blend. The RE-201's peculiar quirks have also been recreated, such as the gradual pitch change that occurs with 'Repeat Rate' changes and the runaway feedback that occurs when the 'Intensity' knob is maxed out. You may also harness all of the natural modulation features crucial to the classic Space Echo sound by using the expressive 'Wow' and 'Flutter' controls.

When Boss recreates one of their iconic effects units, they do more than just reproduce the original. They also improve it! The delay duration on the RE-2 has been doubled, tap tempo adjustment is available, and there's a cool 'Twist' function for creating evocative special effects while performing. You can choose between the warm and fat RE-201 preamp tone and a clean signal with no processing for the dry sound. Full stereo I/O is offered for total immersion, and the dry signal can be muted for parallel effect setups and studio use. The RE-2 additionally allows for expanded control via external footswitches or an expression pedal, allowing continuous pedal control of various panel functions at the same time.
