Detailed Features & Benefits
Compact 14-Inch Thinline Hollowbody Design
The Eastman T184MX features a compact 14-inch thinline body measuring approximately 1¾ inches deep. This smaller format provides a comfortable alternative to traditional full-size hollowbody guitars while retaining an acoustic-influenced playing response. The reduced dimensions make it particularly appealing to players who find larger archtops cumbersome or who prefer the handling of a more compact electric guitar. Its double-cutaway design also provides convenient access to the upper fingerboard.
Solid Carved Maple Top
The T184MX features a solid maple top, providing a lively and articulate foundation for the instrument's sound. Maple is valued for its clear response and natural definition, making it particularly effective for guitarists who want individual notes to remain distinct within complex chords. Combined with the guitar's hollowbody construction, the carved top contributes to the responsive playing feel associated with Eastman's premium electric instruments.
Solid Mahogany Back & Sides
The solid mahogany back and sides complement the maple top, creating a combination of warmth, body and articulation. Mahogany is closely associated with rich midrange character and a rounded tonal response, making it an attractive choice for players seeking expressive clean sounds and smooth overdrive. The all-solid construction also distinguishes the T184MX from many hollowbody and semi-hollow guitars built using laminated timbers.
Small Internal Bridge Block
Rather than using the full-length centre block found in many conventional semi-hollow guitars, the T184MX incorporates a smaller internal block supporting the bridge. This construction allows the guitar to retain much of the resonance and responsive character associated with hollowbody instruments while providing a secure mounting arrangement for its bridge hardware. It contributes to the distinctive feel of the T184MX and helps differentiate it from larger ES-335-style guitars.
Traditional Even C Mahogany Neck
The set mahogany neck features Eastman's Traditional Even C profile, designed to offer a comfortable balance between vintage-inspired substance and accessible modern playability. Its smooth contour supports both chord work and expressive lead playing, making the guitar suitable for a wide range of musical styles. The set-neck construction complements the instrument's premium hollowbody design and provides a familiar playing experience for guitarists accustomed to traditional Gibson-style electric instruments.
Premium Ebony Fingerboard
The ebony fingerboard provides a smooth, durable playing surface with excellent articulation. Its 12-inch radius offers a comfortable balance between chord playing and expressive string bending, while the understated pearl dot inlays complement the guitar's elegant appearance. Ebony is particularly appreciated on premium instruments for its refined feel and clear response, making it a fitting choice for the T184MX.
22 Jescar Medium Jumbo Frets
The T184MX features 22 Jescar medium jumbo frets, providing a precise and comfortable fretting experience. The fret dimensions offer a useful balance between traditional feel and modern articulation, making the guitar suitable for jazz chord voicings, blues phrasing and melodic lead work. Combined with the ebony fingerboard, they contribute to the instrument's premium playing character.
Versatile 25-Inch Scale Length
With a 25-inch scale length, the T184MX sits between the conventional Gibson and Fender scale lengths. This provides a balanced playing response, combining comfortable string bending with clear articulation and defined note attack. The slightly longer scale than a traditional Gibson-style guitar can offer a subtly firmer feel with equivalent strings and tuning, making the instrument particularly enjoyable for players who move between rhythm and lead techniques.
Expressive Dual-Humbucker Configuration
The T184MX's dual-humbucker arrangement provides a versatile tonal foundation for jazz, blues and rock. The neck pickup position is particularly suited to warm, rounded sounds, while the bridge position offers greater attack and clarity for rhythmic playing and driven lead tones. Combining both pickups provides an additional tonal option, making the guitar suitable for musicians who regularly move between different styles and amplifier settings.
Individual Pickup Controls
The T184MX features individual volume and tone controls for its two humbuckers, together with a three-way pickup selector. This traditional arrangement allows the player to balance the output and tonal character of each pickup independently. It is particularly useful for shaping warm jazz sounds, articulate clean rhythms and expressive overdriven leads without relying entirely on amplifier adjustments.
Gotoh Bridge & Hardware
Eastman equips the T184MX design with a Gotoh Tune-O-Matic bridge, matching tailpiece and quality tuning machines. The bridge provides individual saddle adjustment for accurate intonation, while the stop tailpiece offers a familiar and practical string anchoring arrangement. Gotoh hardware is widely respected for its precision and dependability, making it a suitable complement to the guitar's premium construction.
Flamed Maple Binding & Classic Styling
Flamed maple binding around the body, neck and headstock provides an elegant decorative detail, emphasising Eastman's attention to traditional instrument aesthetics. Pearl fingerboard inlays, tasteful nickel hardware and the Classic finish complete the appearance. The result is a guitar that balances understated sophistication with the distinctive visual character of a premium hollowbody electric.
Lightweight Performance & Comfort
Weighing just 6.14 lbs, this particular T184MX offers excellent comfort for a hollowbody electric guitar. The compact body dimensions and manageable weight make it especially appealing for extended playing sessions, whether seated in a jazz ensemble or standing during a live performance. Its comfortable proportions also make it an attractive option for players moving from solid-body electric guitars into hollowbody instruments.
Who Is It For?

Blues Musicians: Responsive dynamics and smooth overdrive character complement expressive lead guitar.
Classic Rock Players: The dual-humbucker configuration provides versatility for rhythm and lead playing.
Session Guitarists: A compact, lightweight instrument suitable for varied musical arrangements.

Playing Styles & Applications
The Eastman T184MX Classic is particularly well suited to jazz, blues, classic rock, soul, indie, alternative rock and vintage-inspired popular music.
For jazz, its warm humbucker tones and hollowbody response complement clean amplification, traditional chord voicings and melodic playing.
For blues and classic rock, moderate amplifier overdrive can produce expressive lead sounds and articulate rhythm tones.
Its compact design also makes it a practical choice for recording musicians seeking a hollowbody character without the larger dimensions of a traditional archtop.
How It Compares
Eastman T184MX vs Gibson ES-335
The Gibson ES-335 is a larger semi-hollow guitar featuring a full-length centre block. The Eastman T184MX instead uses a compact 14-inch body with a smaller internal bridge block, creating a different acoustic response and playing feel. The Eastman's solid carved top and solid back and sides also distinguish its construction from the laminated body design associated with conventional ES-335 models.
Eastman T184MX vs Eastman T486
The Eastman T486 follows a more traditional semi-hollow design with a larger body and centre-block construction. The T184MX offers a smaller, lighter alternative with its 14-inch body and all-solid wood construction. Players seeking classic ES-335-style proportions may favour the T486, while those prioritising compact dimensions and a more hollowbody-oriented response may prefer the T184MX.
Eastman T184MX vs Eastman T185MX
The T185MX shares Eastman's premium all-solid thinline philosophy but features a larger body than the T184MX. The smaller T184MX is particularly appealing to players seeking maximum comfort and a compact instrument, while the larger T185MX provides a different physical feel and acoustic response.
Eastman Guitar Heritage
Eastman has established a strong reputation for producing traditional stringed instruments using carefully selected materials and skilled craftsmanship.
The company's range includes archtop guitars, acoustic guitars, mandolins and electric instruments that draw inspiration from established American guitar-building traditions.
The T184MX reflects this approach by combining premium solid timbers, a compact hollowbody design and professional-quality hardware.
Its distinctive construction offers guitarists an alternative to conventional laminated semi-hollow guitars, while its comfortable dimensions make it particularly appealing to contemporary musicians.
