Why Choose The Fender Sting Signature Precision Bass?
Distinctive Sting Artist Model
This model pays tribute to Sting’s stripped-back Precision Bass style, offering a simple, bold and characterful take on the Fender bass formula. The signature block-style inlay at the 12th fret gives it a clear artist-model identity.
Crafted in Japan Fender Quality
Fender Japan instruments are respected for their consistency, build quality and strong used-market reputation. A CIJ Sting Signature Precision Bass offers genuine Fender character with Japanese craftsmanship and a distinctive specification.
Early-50s Precision Bass Feel
This is not a modern split-coil Precision Bass. The single-pickup, 2-saddle bridge and maple-board format gives it a more vintage-inspired feel, closer in spirit to the earliest Precision Bass designs.
Vintage-Style Single-Coil Pickup
The single-coil pickup gives this bass a clear, direct and articulate voice. It has a different character from a later split-coil P Bass, with more open top-end and a rawer old-school response.
Simple Passive Controls
With just volume and tone controls, this bass is quick to dial in and easy to use on stage or in the studio. It encourages a player-focused approach where right-hand attack, string choice and amp settings do much of the tonal work.
Sunburst Finish
The Sunburst finish gives the bass a classic Fender look that suits the early-50s styling beautifully. It is traditional, understated and instantly recognisable.
Hardcase Included
The included hardcase provides proper protection for storage, transport, rehearsals and gigs.
Comparison Against Popular Alternatives
Fender Sting Signature Precision Bass vs Standard Precision Bass
A standard Precision Bass usually uses a split-coil pickup, giving a thicker and more familiar P Bass sound. The Sting Signature model uses a single-coil pickup and early-50s-inspired layout, giving it a more open and vintage-style character.
Fender Sting Signature Precision Bass vs Fender PB-57
A PB-57 is inspired by the later 1950s split-coil Precision Bass design. The Sting Signature model leans further back towards early Precision Bass styling, with a single pickup and 2-saddle bridge.
Fender Sting Signature Precision Bass vs Fender Jazz Bass
A Jazz Bass has two pickups and more tonal blending options. The Sting Signature Precision Bass is simpler, more direct and more old-school in its response.
Fender Sting Signature Precision Bass vs Modern Player Precision Bass
A modern Precision Bass may offer more contemporary playability and a thicker split-coil voice. The Sting Signature model is better suited to players who want a more vintage-inspired, artist-associated Fender bass with distinctive early-P Bass character.
Who Is It For?
Sting Fans
This is ideal for players who appreciate Sting’s bass work with The Police and his solo career, and want a Fender artist model inspired by his classic Precision Bass style.
Vintage Fender Bass Fans
The early-50s-style layout gives this bass a different feel from more common split-coil Precision Bass models.
Rock, Pop And Roots Players
The simple passive setup works well for rock, pop, roots music, blues, country and singer-songwriter arrangements.
Studio Bassists
A single-coil Precision-style bass can record beautifully when you need a clear, direct and characterful bass part that sits apart from a modern P Bass or Jazz Bass.
Players Who Like Simple Instruments
This is a great option for bassists who prefer straightforward controls, honest tone and a bass that responds strongly to technique.
Fender Japan Enthusiasts
Collectors and players who enjoy CIJ and MIJ Fender models will find this especially appealing because of its artist-model identity and less common specification.
Why Choose A Single-Coil 50s-Style Precision Bass?
A single-coil 50s-style Precision Bass offers a different experience from the later split-coil P Bass most players know. It is clearer, more open and more direct, with a raw vintage character that works especially well with fingerstyle playing, pick playing, flatwound strings and classic amplifier tones.
The 2-saddle bridge adds to the old-school feel, while the simple volume-and-tone layout keeps the instrument immediate and easy to control. It is the kind of bass that rewards touch, dynamics and musical restraint.
The Fender Sting Signature Precision Bass takes that early Precision Bass idea and adds CIJ build quality, Sunburst styling and a unique artist-model identity.

Story & Context: Fender Sting Signature Precision Bass
Sting’s bass playing has always stood out for its economy, melodic sense and ability to support a song without overplaying. From The Police through his solo work, his approach has helped define how a bass can carry both rhythm and melody.
The Fender Sting Signature Precision Bass reflects that stripped-back philosophy. Rather than using a complex active circuit or modern multi-pickup layout, it focuses on a simple early-Precision-style platform: one pickup, one volume control, one tone control and a bold Fender voice.
This Sunburst CIJ example in Very Good condition is a characterful used Fender bass for players who want something more unusual than a standard Precision Bass, while still retaining classic Fender simplicity and working-bass appeal.
