Fenix JB-90M Jazz Bass Sunburst, (Used, Comm)
Description
The Fenix JB-90M Jazz Bass in Sunburst is a Korean-made, vintage-inspired bass produced by Young Chang, combining the familiar offset Jazz Bass format with a maple neck and maple fingerboard.
Fenix instruments have developed a loyal following among players who appreciate Korean-made guitars and basses from the late 1980s and early 1990s, particularly due to Young Chang's association with instrument manufacturing during that period.
The JB-90M follows the classic twin-single-coil Jazz Bass formula, providing plenty of clarity, definition and pickup blending for everything from warm fingerstyle playing to more aggressive picked and slap tones.
This Pre-Owned example is finished in Sunburst, is in Very Good condition, weighs an actual 10.14 lbs, and is supplied without a case.

The maple fingerboard adds to the classic look while helping give this particular version its distinctive identity within the Fenix JB range.
DETAILED FEATURES & BENEFITS
Classic Jazz Bass-Style Design
The offset double-cutaway body follows the familiar Jazz Bass formula.
It is a design valued for comfortable ergonomics, easy upper-fret access and excellent balance when played seated or standing.
Sunburst Finish
The traditional Sunburst finish gives the bass a classic appearance and suits the vintage-inspired design particularly well.
Maple Neck
The bolt-on maple neck provides the direct response and familiar feel associated with traditional bass construction.
Maple Fingerboard
The JB-90M uses a maple fingerboard, distinguishing it from the related JB-90R rosewood-board version.
Maple also gives the bass a bright, clean visual appearance.
Dual Jazz-Style Pickups
Two single-coil pickups provide the familiar flexibility associated with Jazz Bass-style instruments.
The neck pickup delivers greater warmth and fullness, while the bridge pickup emphasises definition and midrange articulation.
Pickup Blending
Blending the two pickups provides a broad range of useful sounds.
Using both together gives the balanced, slightly scooped character commonly associated with the Jazz Bass format.
Passive Electronics
The JB-90M uses a straightforward passive pickup system.
There is no need for batteries or onboard active electronics.
Vintage-Style Hardware
Traditional open-gear machine heads and chrome hardware reinforce the period-correct Jazz Bass-style aesthetic.
10.14 lbs Actual Weight
This individual bass weighs 10.14 lbs.
It has a reassuringly substantial feel typical of many full-size vintage-style basses.

HOW IT COMPARES
JB-90M vs JB-90R
The main identifying difference is the fingerboard.
The JB-90M uses maple, while the related JB-90R uses a rosewood fingerboard.
Fenix vs Fender Jazz Bass
The JB-90M clearly follows the Fender Jazz Bass concept but was produced under the Fenix brand by Young Chang in Korea.
It therefore provides the familiar Jazz-style layout while having its own appeal as an older Korean-built instrument.
Passive vs Active Bass
An active bass usually offers onboard boost and EQ controls but requires a battery.
The JB-90M keeps things simple with passive electronics, allowing the natural pickup voices and amplifier to handle most of the tonal shaping.

FAIR DEAL MUSIC EXPERT VERDICT ★★★★★
Best suited for: Players wanting a traditional passive Jazz Bass-style instrument with the added appeal of older Korean Fenix production.
Customers usually upgrade from: Entry-level basses, modern budget Jazz-style instruments and basic starter basses.
Most commonly paired with: Bass combo amplifiers, compression, overdrive, DI boxes and straightforward pedalboards.
Our tip: Spend some time balancing the two pickups rather than simply running everything fully open. Slightly reducing either pickup can bring out very useful midrange characteristics that are easy to miss on a Jazz-style bass.
Showroom feedback: The maple-board JB-90M has plenty of period character and feels like a substantial traditional bass at 10.14 lbs. Fenix instruments from this era also have a growing following among players interested in older Korean-made guitars and basses.
