The Hohner Big River Harp MS combines accessible diatonic playability with dependable construction suited to regular practice, rehearsals and performance. Its resilient ABS comb offers consistent performance across changing temperatures and humidity levels, while 20 brass reeds provide the dynamic response required for melodies, chords, bends and expressive articulation.

Torx screw construction also allows convenient access when routine maintenance is required.

Who Is It For?

The Big River Harp MS in D is an excellent choice for beginners, developing players and experienced musicians looking for a reliable and versatile diatonic harmonica.

Its D tuning gives it a brighter voice than a C harmonica, making it particularly effective for folk, country and melodic playing where clarity and projection are important.

For blues musicians using second-position technique, a D harmonica is commonly used for songs in the key of A.

Why Choose a Diatonic Harmonica in D?

A D major harmonica sits slightly higher in pitch than a C harmonica, producing a bright and energetic sound that can remain clearly defined alongside guitars, drums and other instruments.

D is also an extremely useful key for folk, traditional and country music, making it a versatile addition to a player's harmonica collection.

For second-position or cross-harp playing, a D harmonica is commonly used when playing blues in A.

Durable ABS Comb

The Big River Harp MS features a black ABS comb designed for dependable performance in a wide range of playing environments.

ABS does not absorb moisture in the same way untreated wood can, helping the harmonica maintain consistent dimensions and playability during regular use.

Its smooth mouthpiece surface also contributes to comfortable playing during longer practice or performance sessions.

MS Modular System

The Big River Harp is part of Hohner’s MS – Modular System – Series.

Its comb, reed plates and cover plates can be interchanged with compatible components from other MS Series models. This modular design makes replacement of compatible parts more straightforward and gives players additional flexibility when maintaining or adapting their instrument.

Responsive Brass Reeds

The Big River Harp MS uses 20 brass reeds mounted on 0.9 mm brass reed plates.

This reed system responds naturally to changes in breath pressure and articulation, giving players the control required for clear melodies, chords, bends and expressive phrasing.

Curved Stainless-Steel Covers

The stainless-steel cover plates feature a curved shape designed for comfortable handling.

Their robust construction makes the Big River Harp suitable for regular use while maintaining the familiar shape and feel expected from a traditional 10-hole diatonic harmonica.

Torx Screw Construction

The Big River Harp MS uses Torx screws for secure assembly and straightforward access during maintenance.

This complements the modular MS construction and makes the instrument a practical choice for players who want a harmonica that can be maintained over the longer term.
