Quick Product Summary
The Ibanez RGD61-BAM in Black Aurora Burst Matte is a purpose-built six-string electric guitar designed for modern, down-tuned playing. Its extended 26.5" scale length, Okoume body and fast Wizard III Roasted Maple neck provide the tension, definition and responsive feel needed for heavy rhythm work and technical lead playing.
A pair of Fishman Fluence Modern Ceramic humbuckers delivers powerful, articulate active tones with switchable voicings, while the Mono-rail bridge and Gotoh MG-T locking machine heads provide a stable, performance-focused hardware platform. The colour-shifting Black Aurora Burst Matte finish completes its distinctly contemporary appearance.
What Makes the Ibanez RGD61-BAM Special?
The RGD platform is designed specifically around lower tunings. Its 26.5" scale provides additional string tension compared with a conventional 25.5" guitar, helping lower notes remain tighter and more defined. The slim Wizard III Roasted Maple neck, 400 mm-radius Macassar Ebony fingerboard and 24 jumbo frets keep the guitar quick and comfortable for technical playing.
Fishman Fluence Modern humbuckers give the RGD61 a powerful modern voice without sacrificing clarity. A push/pull control provides access to two pickup voicings, while the fixed Mono-rail bridge isolates each string saddle to support stability and definition.
Who Is It For?
The RGD61-BAM is particularly well suited to:
- Modern metal guitarists
- Progressive and technical players
- Down-tuned rhythm playing
- Djent and contemporary heavy styles
- Players who prefer a fixed bridge
- Guitarists wanting active pickups with multiple voicings
- Fast lead and technical playing
- Stage and studio use

FAQs
What is special about the Ibanez RGD series?
The RGD range is designed around modern, lower-tuned guitar playing. Extended scale lengths, streamlined necks and contemporary hardware help provide increased definition and stability when using lower tunings.
What is the scale length of the RGD61?
The RGD61 has a 26.5" scale length, which is one inch longer than the 25.5" scale commonly found on many six-string electric guitars.
Why is the longer scale useful?
A longer scale increases string tension at the same pitch. This helps lower tunings feel tighter and can improve note definition, particularly during fast or heavily distorted rhythm playing.
What tuning does the RGD61 use from the factory?
The guitar is factory tuned D G C F A D, which is one whole step below conventional E standard tuning.
What pickups are fitted?
The RGD61 uses a pair of Fishman Fluence Modern Ceramic humbuckers, providing high-output active performance with excellent clarity and low noise.
Do the Fishman pickups have more than one sound?
Yes. A push/pull function on the Volume control switches between two Fluence voicings, expanding the tonal range without adding a complicated control layout.
Does the RGD61 have a tremolo?
No. It uses an Ibanez Mono-rail fixed bridge, making it particularly well suited to players who prioritise tuning stability, straightforward setup and precise down-tuned rhythm work.
Does it have locking tuners?
Yes. Gotoh MG-T locking machine heads are fitted, helping provide stable tuning and faster string changes.
What is the fingerboard made from?
The RGD61 uses a Macassar Ebony fingerboard with a flat 400 mm radius and 24 jumbo frets.
Does it have glow-in-the-dark side markers?
The guitar features luminescent side dot position markers, making fret positions easier to identify on dark stages.
Is the RGD61 only suitable for metal?
No. Its extended scale and high-output electronics naturally lend themselves to modern heavy music, but the second Fishman Fluence voicing provides additional cleaner sounds suitable for progressive, ambient and experimental styles.
Does it come with a case or gig bag?
No. A case or gig bag is not included.
What does Open Box mean?
Open Box stock is offered separately from standard sealed retail stock while retaining the original model specification, providing an opportunity to purchase the instrument at open-box value.
