Quick Product Summary

The Ibanez RG470DX-TMN in Tokyo Midnight is a performance-focused electric guitar built for speed, versatility and expressive lead playing. Its slim Wizard III maple neck, 24-fret Jatoba fingerboard and iconic RG body shape create the fast, comfortable playing experience that has made the RG series a favourite for rock and metal guitarists.

A versatile Quantum H-S-H pickup configuration provides powerful humbucker tones alongside clearer single-coil textures, while the Edge-Zero II double-locking tremolo gives players the freedom to explore dramatic pitch effects while maintaining reliable tuning stability.

What Makes the Ibanez RG470DX-TMN Special?

The RG470DX combines Ibanez's fast Wizard III neck profile with a flat 400 mm fingerboard radius and 24 jumbo frets, making it particularly comfortable for technical lead work, wide bends, tapping and fast rhythm playing. The deep Tokyo Midnight finish is complemented by Sharktooth fingerboard inlays and black hardware for a distinctly modern RG appearance.

Its Quantum H-S-H electronics make the guitar much more versatile than its high-performance styling might suggest. Ceramic neck and bridge humbuckers deliver definition and power, while the Alnico middle single coil and five-way switching arrangement provide additional cleaner and split-style sounds.

FAQs

What colour is Tokyo Midnight?

Tokyo Midnight is a deep, dark finish with a striking purple-toned appearance that changes character depending on the lighting. Combined with the black hardware, it gives the RG470DX a distinctive modern look.

What neck does the RG470DX use?

The RG470DX features an Ibanez Wizard III maple neck, designed to provide the thin, flat and fast feel associated with the RG series.

Is the RG470DX suitable for shred and technical playing?

Yes. Its slim neck, 400 mm fingerboard radius, 24 jumbo frets and double-locking tremolo make it particularly well suited to fast alternate picking, legato, tapping, sweeping and other technical techniques.

What pickups are fitted?

The guitar uses three Ibanez Quantum pickups in an H-S-H arrangement, with ceramic humbuckers at the neck and bridge and an Alnico single coil in the middle position.

Does it have a locking tremolo?

Yes. The RG470DX features an Edge-Zero II tremolo bridge and locking nut, allowing both upward and downward pitch effects while providing improved tuning stability compared with a conventional non-locking tremolo.

How many frets does it have?

The RG470DX has 24 jumbo frets, giving every string a full two-octave range.

What is the body made from?

The body is made from Meranti, paired with a bolt-on maple neck and Jatoba fingerboard.

Is the RG470DX only suitable for metal?

No. Although the RG design is strongly associated with rock and metal, its H-S-H pickup arrangement and five-way selector provide enough versatility for fusion, progressive music, pop, instrumental playing and many other styles.

What strings are fitted from the factory?

Ibanez specifies D'Addario EXL120 strings in .009–.042 gauges.

Does the guitar come with a case?

No. A case or gig bag is not included.

What is Open Box?

Open Box stock is offered separately from standard sealed retail stock. It retains the same core model specification while providing an opportunity to purchase the instrument at open-box value.

How does the RG470DX differ from the RG470AHM?

Both guitars share many of the performance-focused features associated with this level of the RG range, including the Wizard III neck, Quantum H-S-H pickups and Edge-Zero II tremolo. The RG470DX-TMN uses a Meranti body and Jatoba fingerboard with Sharktooth inlays, giving it a distinctly different look and feel from the ash-bodied, maple-fingerboard RG470AHM.
