Detailed Features & Benefits

Compact, Direct Plug-In Design

The NUX MP-2 Mighty Plug is designed to connect directly to the output jack of a compatible electric guitar or bass, eliminating the need for an amplifier or conventional instrument cable during headphone practice. Its small dimensions and lightweight construction make it easy to carry in a guitar case, gig bag or accessories pouch, while its integrated headphone output allows players to enjoy amplified guitar sounds without disturbing people nearby. This makes it particularly useful for home practice, travel and situations where a full amplifier setup would be inconvenient.

Thirteen Amplifier Models

The Mighty Plug provides a selection of thirteen amplifier models designed to cover a broad range of guitar and bass sounds. These include clean amplifier characters, vintage-style breakup, crunchy rock tones and more aggressive distortion, allowing players to experiment with different musical styles from one compact device. NUX's TSAC-HD modelling technology, introduced through the compatible firmware updates, is designed to recreate aspects of the dynamic response and playing feel associated with traditional amplifiers, helping the unit respond more naturally to changes in picking strength and guitar volume.

Cabinet Impulse Response Technology

The MP-2 incorporates impulse response technology to recreate the tonal characteristics of different guitar and bass speaker cabinets. These digital cabinet simulations are important when practising through headphones because a direct electric guitar signal can sound unusually bright or harsh without appropriate speaker processing. By modelling the response of conventional guitar and bass cabinets, the Mighty Plug helps create a more natural and familiar amplified sound. Available cabinet options vary with firmware and software configuration, providing useful flexibility for different guitars and playing styles.

Acoustic Guitar Simulation

One of the MP-2's more unusual features is its selection of acoustic guitar impulse responses, designed to help electric guitars produce acoustic-inspired tones. These simulations alter the frequency response of the instrument to recreate aspects of the sound associated with different acoustic guitar designs. Although they cannot reproduce every physical characteristic of a genuine acoustic instrument, they provide a practical option for experimenting with acoustic-style sounds without changing guitars. NUX recommends experimenting with the neck pickup, particularly on single-coil instruments, for suitable results.

Comprehensive Built-In Effects

The Mighty Plug includes a broad selection of digital effects covering overdrive, distortion, compression, modulation, delay and reverb. This allows players to create complete guitar sounds without connecting external effects pedals, making the MP-2 particularly convenient for portable practice. Different effects can be combined with amplifier and cabinet models through the MightyAmp application, giving users the flexibility to build everything from simple clean tones to more elaborate ambient and high-gain sounds.

Bluetooth Audio Playback

Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity allows the MP-2 to receive audio from a compatible smartphone or tablet, making it easy to practise along with songs, backing tracks and other audio sources. The incoming music can be heard through connected wired headphones alongside the guitar or bass sound, creating a convenient self-contained practice environment. This is particularly useful for learning songs, developing timing and experimenting with different amplifier settings while playing along with recordings.

MightyAmp App Integration

The free NUX MightyAmp mobile application provides detailed control over the MP-2's amplifier models, cabinet simulations, effects and user presets. Rather than relying on numerous physical controls, the Mighty Plug uses Bluetooth communication with the app to provide a more comprehensive editing interface. Players can adjust their sounds, explore different effect combinations and save favourite settings for later use. Compatibility depends on the mobile device, operating system and installed app version.

Seven User Presets

The MP-2 supports seven user presets, allowing musicians to store different amplifier and effects configurations for quick recall. This makes it practical to maintain a selection of sounds for different musical styles, such as a clean rhythm tone, a lightly driven blues sound, a high-gain rock setting or an atmospheric lead patch. Preset editing is managed through the compatible MightyAmp app, while the unit's onboard controls provide convenient access to stored sounds during practice.

Built-In Drum Patterns & Metronome

The Mighty Plug includes ten drum patterns and a metronome, providing useful rhythmic accompaniment for practice. These features allow players to work on timing, chord changes, scales and improvisation without using a separate drum machine. Practising alongside a consistent rhythm can be particularly useful for developing accurate playing technique, while the different drum patterns offer a more musical alternative to a basic metronome click.

USB Audio Recording

The MP-2 features a Micro-B USB connection that supports audio streaming to a compatible computer, allowing guitarists and bassists to record processed instrument sounds into suitable recording software. This provides a straightforward option for capturing ideas, recording demos and experimenting with different sounds without purchasing an additional audio interface. USB connectivity also supports device maintenance and firmware updates, with computer compatibility and driver requirements depending on the operating system.

Rechargeable Battery & ECO Mode

The Mighty Plug is powered by a built-in rechargeable lithium battery, removing the need to purchase disposable batteries for regular use. NUX quotes approximately four hours of playing time under suitable conditions, although actual battery life depends on use, battery age and operating settings. The MP-2 also features an ECO mode that automatically powers down the device after qualifying periods without headphones or an incoming signal, helping conserve battery power between practice sessions.

Guitar & Bass Compatibility

The MP-2 is designed for use with both electric guitars and electric basses, supporting instruments fitted with active or passive pickups. Its selection of amplifier models, cabinet responses and effects allows players to create sounds suited to different instruments and playing styles. It can also be used with compatible electro-acoustic instruments, although results will depend on the pickup system and selected processing. This versatility makes it particularly convenient for musicians who own several instruments but want to use one compact headphone practice device.

Who Is It For?

Beginner Guitarists: An approachable way to explore amplifier sounds and effects without purchasing a full pedalboard.

Home Practice Musicians: Ideal for quiet playing without disturbing family members or neighbours.

Bass Guitarists: Includes bass amplifier and cabinet simulations alongside conventional guitar sounds.

Travelling Musicians: Its pocket-sized design is easy to carry alongside an instrument.

Students: Bluetooth playback, drum patterns and a metronome support structured practice.

Recording Musicians: USB audio streaming makes it convenient for capturing demos and musical ideas.

Experienced Guitarists: Useful as a compact secondary practice rig when a conventional amplifier is impractical.

Playing Styles & Applications

The NUX MP-2 Mighty Plug is suitable for blues, rock, metal, pop, funk, country, jazz, indie, ambient and bass guitar practice.

Its clean amplifier models provide sounds suited to chord work, melodic playing and lighter musical styles, while overdrive and distortion models cover classic rock and heavier music.

The built-in effects allow players to create more elaborate textures, including chorus-enhanced cleans, delayed lead guitar and atmospheric reverb sounds.

Bluetooth playback and the built-in rhythmic tools make the MP-2 particularly effective for everyday practice and learning songs.

Its USB audio connection also makes it useful for recording demos, experimenting with amplifier settings and capturing musical ideas.

How It Compares

NUX MP-2 Mighty Plug vs NUX Mighty Plug Pro

The Mighty Plug Pro is a more advanced model offering expanded functionality, additional connectivity and a different processing architecture. The original MP-2 focuses on straightforward headphone practice, Bluetooth app control, rechargeable operation and USB recording in a compact format. Players seeking a simple and portable practice solution may find the MP-2 more than sufficient, while those wanting the Pro model's additional features may prefer the newer version.

NUX MP-2 Mighty Plug vs Fender Mustang Micro

The Fender Mustang Micro offers a similarly compact plug-in headphone amplifier design, with onboard amplifier and effects selections and Bluetooth audio playback. The NUX MP-2 places particular emphasis on mobile app editing, cabinet impulse responses and user preset customisation. Players who prefer a self-contained interface may favour the Mustang Micro, while those who enjoy detailed editing through a mobile application may appreciate the flexibility of the Mighty Plug.

NUX MP-2 Mighty Plug vs a Conventional Practice Amplifier

A traditional practice amplifier provides an integrated loudspeaker, allowing musicians to play without headphones and share their sound with others. The MP-2 is designed primarily for personal headphone use, making it considerably smaller and more convenient for quiet practice. Players who regularly rehearse with other musicians will generally need a conventional amplifier, while the Mighty Plug offers an excellent supplementary practice solution.

NUX Mighty Series Heritage

NUX has developed a broad range of guitar effects, amplifiers and digital processing equipment designed to bring modern audio technology into practical, musician-friendly products.

The Mighty Series focuses on versatile modelling amplification, integrating multiple sounds, digital effects and modern connectivity features.

The MP-2 Mighty Plug applies this approach to an exceptionally compact design, combining amplifier and cabinet modelling with Bluetooth control and rechargeable battery operation.

Its ability to provide guitar and bass processing, headphone monitoring and USB recording within a single plug-in device reflects the growing popularity of portable digital practice equipment.

For musicians who want to practise anywhere without a traditional amplifier, the MP-2 remains a convenient and flexible solution.

Technical Specifications

Power & Charging Requirements

The NUX MP-2 Mighty Plug features a built-in rechargeable 3.7V lithium battery, allowing it to operate without disposable batteries or a dedicated external power adapter.

Charging is carried out through the unit's Micro-B USB connection, using a suitable USB charging cable and compatible USB power source.

The manufacturer quotes approximately four hours of playing time, although actual performance depends on the battery's condition, age and operating settings.

The same Micro-B USB connection can also be used for compatible computer audio recording and firmware updates.

NUX recommends periodically recharging the battery during extended storage to help maintain battery performance.

Please Note: The original box is included, but the USB charging cable has not been confirmed as present.
