Seventy Seven Guitars EXRUBATO-STD-JT Sunburst, (Used, Comm)
Description
The SeventySeven Guitars EXRUBATO-STD-JT in Sunburst is a classically styled double-cutaway semi-hollow electric combining warm hollow-body character with the definition and control of centre-block construction.
Its laminated plain-maple body is paired with a comfortable maple neck and ovangkol fingerboard, while a pair of SeventySeven AL2 Alnico II humbuckers provides a smooth, articulate response suited to everything from clean jazz and blues through to crunchy rock and expressive lead work.
The Japan Tune-Up specification is an important part of this model's appeal. After initial construction overseas, each instrument receives detailed setup work in Japan, including attention to the neck, fret edges and overall playability.
This Pre-Owned Sunburst example is offered in Mint condition and includes a hardcase.

Why Choose The SeventySeven EXRUBATO-STD-JT?
Classic Semi-Hollow Construction
The EXRUBATO follows the familiar double-cutaway semi-hollow formula, combining hollow body chambers with centre-block construction.
That gives it more acoustic resonance and openness than a typical solid-body while helping to keep the sound focused when amplification and overdrive are introduced.
SeventySeven AL2 Humbuckers
The two original AL2 humbuckers use Alnico II magnets, giving them a relatively smooth and musical response rather than an aggressively high-output character.
Clean sounds remain detailed and rounded, while adding drive produces a warm crunch with enough definition for blues, rock and melodic lead playing.
Japan Tune-Up Preparation
The JT designation stands for Japan Tune-Up.
Rather than leaving final playability entirely to the overseas production facility, SeventySeven carries out additional setup work in Japan, including fret-edge treatment and adjustments directly affecting how the guitar feels under the hands.
Slim C-Shaped Neck
SeventySeven specifies a relatively slim C-shaped neck profile designed to feel approachable without becoming excessively thin.
Combined with the 24.75" scale, it gives the EXRUBATO a comfortable feel for chords, blues phrasing and extended sessions.
Ovangkol Fingerboard
Ovangkol provides a hard, smooth fingerboard surface with a familiar dark appearance, complementing the maple neck and traditional semi-hollow styling.
Comparison Against Popular Alternatives
EXRUBATO-STD-JT vs Gibson ES-335
The Gibson ES-335 is the historic benchmark for this style of semi-hollow guitar and sits substantially higher in the market. The EXRUBATO offers the same broad centre-block, twin-humbucker concept with its own SeventySeven pickups and Japan Tune-Up approach.
EXRUBATO-STD-JT vs Epiphone ES-335
An Epiphone ES-335 is one of the most obvious alternatives. The SeventySeven distinguishes itself through its AL2 pickups, ovangkol fingerboard, Kluson hardware and additional Japanese fret and setup work.
EXRUBATO-STD-JT vs Ibanez AS Series
Ibanez AS models often provide a slightly more contemporary interpretation of the semi-hollow format. The EXRUBATO leans heavily into traditional styling, straightforward controls and warm Alnico II pickup voicing.
EXRUBATO-STD-JT vs EXRUBATO-CTM-JT
The CTM version takes the range further upmarket visually with more decorative appointments. The STD-JT keeps the design simpler and focuses on the core semi-hollow construction, pickup response and playability.
Who Is It For?
Blues Players
The combination of Alnico II humbuckers and semi-hollow construction works particularly well with clean, edge-of-breakup and moderate overdrive sounds.
Jazz Guitarists
The neck pickup can deliver a warm, rounded voice while the centre-block construction makes the guitar more adaptable to stage volumes than a fully hollow jazz box.
Rock Guitarists
Switch to the bridge pickup and add gain and the EXRUBATO becomes a capable rock instrument, with the centre block helping retain definition and control.
Soul And R&B Players
The responsive pickups and semi-hollow character suit clean chord voicings, melodic fills and dynamically controlled rhythm playing.
Players Buying Their First Serious Semi-Hollow
The EXRUBATO-STD-JT is particularly attractive to someone who wants the genuine character of a centre-block semi-hollow without immediately moving into premium American-made pricing.

What Does Japan Tune-Up Mean?
The Japan Tune-Up Series was introduced by SeventySeven in 2020.
The core instrument is assembled at an overseas production facility, after which additional work is carried out in Japan using knowledge developed within the wider Deviser group.
Particular attention is given to areas that directly influence playability, including fret-edge finishing, neck adjustment, string action and final setup.
It is therefore important not to confuse the JT designation with “Made in Japan”. The value of the series is specifically in combining more accessible overseas production with additional hands-on Japanese finishing and preparation.
Story & Context: SeventySeven Guitars And The EXRUBATO
SeventySeven Guitars was established in 2006 as part of Japanese manufacturer Deviser, with a particular focus on semi-hollow and hollow-body instruments.
The brand developed its identity around traditional electric archtop and semi-acoustic designs rather than trying to cover every category of guitar.
The EXRUBATO became one of its core semi-hollow designs, using the familiar double-cutaway, centre-block format that has proved useful across jazz, blues, soul and rock for decades.
In 2020, SeventySeven expanded the range with the Japan Tune-Up Series. The idea was to make the brand's instruments accessible at a lower price point while maintaining greater control over final playability through additional setup work in Japan.
The EXRUBATO-STD-JT is arguably the most straightforward expression of that idea: traditional semi-hollow construction, uncomplicated twin-humbucker electronics and a specification focused on everyday playability rather than elaborate decoration.

Fair Deal Music Verdict
★★★★★ 5/5
The SeventySeven Guitars EXRUBATO-STD-JT Sunburst is a strong semi-hollow all-rounder with an unusually thoughtful specification for its category.
The warm AL2 humbuckers and centre-block construction give it plenty of traditional semi-hollow character, while the slim neck and Japan Tune-Up fret and setup work make it approachable as an everyday instrument.
Best suited for: Blues, jazz, classic rock, soul and players looking for an alternative to the usual semi-hollow brands.
Customers usually upgrade from: Entry-level semi-hollow guitars, Epiphone Dot-style models and more affordable hollow-body electrics.
Most commonly paired with: Clean or low-gain valve amplifiers, overdrive, boost, compressor, delay and reverb.
Our tip: Don't treat it as only a clean jazz guitar. The AL2 bridge pickup responds particularly well to moderate overdrive and can produce excellent blues-rock and classic-rock tones.
Showroom feedback: The EXRUBATO-STD-JT gets the fundamentals right: comfortable neck, traditional semi-hollow feel and a pickup set with enough warmth for jazz but enough definition to move comfortably into rock.
