Suhr Classic S HSS Black Rosewood, (Used)
Description
The Suhr Classic S HSS in Black with Indian rosewood fingerboard is a high-end modern S-style electric guitar that combines traditional looks with refined playability, premium hardware and a versatile HSS pickup configuration.
Built around an alder body and tinted maple neck, the Classic S uses Suhr’s 60’s C Vintage Standard profile, a 9"–12" compound-radius fingerboard and medium stainless-steel frets for a playing feel that balances familiar vintage proportions with modern precision.
The HSS pickup layout combines V60LP single coils in the neck and middle positions with an SSV humbucker at the bridge, providing everything from glassy clean tones and classic in-between sounds to thicker, more powerful bridge tones for rock and higher-gain playing.
This Pre-Owned example is in Very Good condition, weighs an actual 7.82 lbs, and includes a gigbag.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT
The Classic S is designed for players who want the familiarity of a traditional S-style guitar without giving up the precision, consistency and hardware refinement associated with modern Suhr instruments.
The V60LP single coils provide the clarity, snap and dynamic response expected from a classic Strat-style setup, while the SSV bridge humbucker adds extra output and thickness for driven rhythm and lead playing.
The SSCII system also reduces traditional single-coil hum without requiring a battery, making the guitar especially useful for stage and studio work.
DETAILED FEATURES & BENEFITS
Alder Body
The alder body provides a balanced tonal foundation with clear mids, controlled lows and enough upper-mid presence to keep notes defined.
Black Finish
The Black finish gives the guitar a clean and understated appearance that pairs especially well with the rosewood fingerboard and chrome hardware.
60’s C Vintage Standard Neck
The tinted maple neck uses Suhr’s 60’s C Vintage Standard profile, measuring approximately .810" at the first fret and .930" at the twelfth.
It provides a substantial but comfortable feel that should suit players who prefer a vintage-inspired shape without an excessively chunky neck.
Indian Rosewood Fingerboard
The Indian rosewood fingerboard provides a smooth playing surface and a darker visual contrast against the maple neck.
9"–12" Compound Radius
The 9"–12" compound radius starts relatively rounded near the nut before gradually flattening higher up the neck.
This allows comfortable chord work lower down while making bends and lead playing easier in the upper register.
Medium Stainless-Steel Frets
Suhr’s medium stainless-steel frets provide excellent durability and a smooth, consistent feel.
They also resist wear considerably better than traditional nickel-silver fretwire.
V60LP Neck Pickup
The neck-position V60LP delivers warm, rounded single-coil tones with clear attack and strong dynamic response.
V60LP Middle Pickup
The middle V60LP helps create the familiar hollow and articulate in-between sounds associated with S-style guitars.
SSV Bridge Humbucker
The SSV humbucker gives the bridge position greater output, thickness and sustain than a traditional single coil.
This makes the guitar especially versatile for rock, blues and higher-gain playing.
SSCII Noise-Cancelling System
Suhr’s SSCII Silent Single Coil System II is designed to reduce traditional 60-cycle hum from the single-coil pickups without requiring a battery.
This is particularly useful in studios and on stages where electrical noise can otherwise become distracting.
Suhr Locking Tuners
Proprietary Suhr locking tuners provide quick string changes and secure string retention at the headstock.
2-Post Tremolo
The 2-post tremolo uses a steel block and provides smooth pitch control with a more contemporary feel than a traditional 6-screw system.
7.82 lbs Actual Weight
This individual guitar weighs 7.82 lbs, giving buyers an accurate indication of how this specific example will feel.
WHO IS IT FOR?
The Suhr Classic S HSS is particularly well suited to professional players, session musicians and serious enthusiasts who want an S-style guitar with premium construction, modern reliability and broad tonal range.
Its HSS configuration makes it especially useful for players who need one guitar to cover clean, blues, funk, pop, rock and higher-gain material.
PLAYING STYLES & APPLICATIONS
The Classic S HSS works exceptionally well for blues, rock, pop, funk, fusion, soul, indie, session work and general live performance.
The V60LP single coils provide clean and articulate sounds, while the SSV bridge humbucker offers extra power for driven rhythm and lead tones.
HOW IT COMPARES
Classic S HSS vs Traditional SSS
A traditional SSS guitar provides three single-coil sounds.
The Classic S HSS replaces the bridge single coil with an SSV humbucker, adding more output and thickness while retaining classic neck and middle single-coil tones.
Suhr Classic S vs Fender Stratocaster
Both use the familiar S-style platform, but the Suhr adds features such as compound radius, stainless-steel frets, locking tuners and SSCII noise reduction.
Classic S vs Classic S Antique
The Classic S Antique adds deliberately aged finishes and vintage-inspired cosmetic wear, while the standard Classic S presents a cleaner contemporary finish.
