FLAGSHIP GRANDTOUCH KEYBOARD
The CLP-895GPWH uses Yamaha’s flagship:
GrandTouch keyboard.
This sophisticated 88-note action includes:
-
Wooden white keys
-
Synthetic ivory white-key surfaces
-
Synthetic ebony black-key surfaces
-
Escapement
-
Counterweights
-
88-key Linear Graded Hammers
The objective is not simply to make the keyboard feel heavy.
It is to reproduce the control, resistance and response required for expressive acoustic-piano technique.
88-KEY LINEAR GRADED HAMMERS
One of the defining features of the CLP-895GP is Yamaha’s:
88-key Linear Graded Hammer system.
Rather than dividing the keyboard into a small number of weight zones, the hammer weighting changes progressively across the entire keyboard.
This reflects the way an acoustic grand piano does not have identical key weighting from bass to treble.
The result is a more nuanced transition across all 88 notes.
COUNTERWEIGHTS
The CLP-895GP keyboard also incorporates:
Counterweights.
These help improve key response and control, particularly during delicate playing and when returning from deeper key movements.
Combined with the Linear Graded Hammer system, they contribute to the CLP-895GP’s position at the top of Yamaha’s Clavinova keyboard-action hierarchy.
ESCAPEMENT
GrandTouch incorporates an escapement sensation designed to recreate the subtle tactile response experienced when playing softly on an acoustic grand piano.
For advanced pianists, details such as this become particularly important when practising refined control at low dynamics.
TOUCH SENSITIVITY
Touch response can be adjusted through:
-
Hard 2
-
Hard 1
-
Medium
-
Soft 1
-
Soft 2
-
Fixed
This allows the dynamic response of the instrument to be adapted to the player.
YAMAHA CFX CONCERT GRAND
The CLP-895GPWH features the sound of Yamaha’s flagship:
CFX Concert Grand.
The CFX is known for its clarity, projection, tonal colour and powerful concert presence.
Yamaha carefully sampled the instrument across its full keyboard range to bring its character into the Clavinova environment.
BÖSENDORFER IMPERIAL
Alongside the CFX is the:
Bösendorfer Imperial.
Bösendorfer is Yamaha’s historic Viennese piano marque, and the Imperial provides a contrasting piano character.
Where the CFX offers Yamaha’s modern concert-grand identity, the Bösendorfer brings a warmer, rich and characteristically Viennese tonal alternative.
Having both available gives the pianist two genuinely different concert-grand personalities.
BINAURAL SAMPLING
Both the:
Yamaha CFX
and
Bösendorfer Imperial
are available using binaural sampling when practising with headphones.
Binaural recording captures the piano from a perspective designed to reproduce the spatial impression experienced by the pianist.
The result is a more open and immersive headphone experience than a conventional left/right stereo piano sound.
VIRTUAL RESONANCE MODELING – VRM
An acoustic grand piano is a highly interactive resonant system.
Strings, soundboard, cabinet and other components influence one another as the instrument is played.
Yamaha’s:
Virtual Resonance Modeling – VRM
recreates these complex interactions digitally.
The result is a piano tone that changes dynamically according to:
-
Notes being played
-
Notes already sounding
-
Pedal position
-
Harmonic relationships
-
Playing technique
This helps the instrument respond more organically than a simple sample-playback piano.
GRAND EXPRESSION MODELING
Grand Expression Modeling focuses on the relationship between the pianist’s physical input and the resulting sound.
The technology interprets nuances in the way notes are played to create more detailed tonal and dynamic changes.
Combined with the GrandTouch keyboard, this helps the CLP-895GP respond more naturally to subtle variations in technique.
256-NOTE POLYPHONY
The CLP-895GP provides:
256-note maximum polyphony.
This gives the piano ample capacity for:
-
Complex classical repertoire
-
Extensive sustain-pedal use
-
Layered Voices
-
Dense passages
-
Recording and playback
without unnecessarily restricting sustained notes.
53 VOICES + XG
The CLP-895GP provides:
53 main Voices
plus:
480 XG Voices
and:
14 Drum/SFX Kits.
While piano remains the instrument’s central focus, the additional sounds substantially expand its creative possibilities.
These include instruments suitable for:
-
Electric piano
-
Organ
-
Strings
-
Bass
-
Harpsichord
-
Historical keyboard sounds
-
Layered textures
-
MIDI Song playback
FORTEPIANO VOICES
The CLP-800 Series also provides historical fortepiano sounds.
These allow players to explore music using tonal characteristics closer to instruments from the periods in which composers such as Mozart, Beethoven and Chopin worked.
For classical students, teachers and enthusiasts, this can provide a fascinating additional perspective on historical repertoire.
GRAND ACOUSTIC IMAGING
The CLP-895GP is designed to do more than simply produce high-quality sound through speakers.
Yamaha’s Grand Acoustic Imaging approach is intended to create a broad and natural sound field around the player.
The acoustic design uses:
-
Carefully positioned speakers
-
Waveguides
-
Cabinet acoustics
-
Speaker orientation
to create a spatial impression closer to sitting at a grand piano.
The goal is for different frequency ranges to appear to originate naturally from appropriate areas around the instrument rather than obviously coming from a conventional speaker box.
FLAGSHIP THREE-WAY SPEAKER SYSTEM
The CLP-895GP uses a sophisticated three-way speaker configuration.
Speaker arrangement:
(16cm + 8cm with Waveguide + 2.5cm dome with Waveguide) × 2
with:
Spruce Cone Speakers.
This is driven by:
(45W + 45W + 45W) × 2 amplification.
That gives a combined rated amplifier output of:
270 watts.
This flagship audio system is one of the major distinctions between the CLP-895GP and lower models in the CLP-800 Series.
SPRUCE CONE SPEAKERS
Yamaha uses Spruce Cone Speakers in the CLP-895GP.
Spruce is also a material central to acoustic-piano soundboard construction.
Combined with the cabinet and speaker architecture, these speakers contribute to the instrument’s rich and natural acoustic presentation.
GRANDTOUCH PEDALS
The CLP-895GPWH provides three:
GrandTouch pedals
for:
-
Damper
-
Sostenuto
-
Soft
The damper supports continuous half-pedalling.
GP RESPONSE DAMPER
The flagship CLP-895GP also incorporates Yamaha’s:
GP Response Damper.
On an acoustic grand piano, damper-pedal resistance changes through the pedal’s travel as the damper mechanism begins lifting from the strings.
GP Response Damper is designed to reproduce this changing resistance more naturally.
For serious pianists, that provides a more realistic platform for developing precise pedal technique.
DUAL, SPLIT & DUO
The CLP-895GP supports:
Dual
for layering two Voices.
Split
for placing different Voices on the left and right sections of the keyboard.
Duo
for dividing the keyboard into two equivalent playing ranges.
Duo can be particularly useful in teaching situations where teacher and student need to play within matching registers.
RHYTHMS
The CLP-895GP provides built-in rhythm accompaniment for practising and playing across different musical styles.
This gives the instrument another useful dimension beyond traditional solo piano practice without turning it into an arranger-focused instrument.
BUILT-IN SONG LIBRARY
The instrument includes an extensive collection of preset material, including:
-
Voice Demo Songs
-
50 Classical Music Masterpieces
-
303 Lesson Songs
The lesson library includes established educational repertoire from composers and pedagogical collections such as:
-
Hanon
-
Beyer
-
Czerny
-
Burgmüller
MIDI RECORDING
The CLP-895GP includes a sophisticated MIDI recorder.
This allows performances to be recorded as MIDI data for:
-
Practice
-
Self-assessment
-
Composition
-
Multi-track arrangement
-
Performance development
MIDI recording offers considerably more editing flexibility than recording only finished audio.
USB AUDIO RECORDING
Performances can also be recorded as:
WAV audio
to compatible USB storage.
This creates an audio recording that can be played back without requiring the original MIDI performance engine.
BLUETOOTH AUDIO
Bluetooth Audio allows compatible devices to stream music wirelessly through the CLP-895GP’s high-quality speaker system where the feature is available in the region.
This is useful for:
-
Playing along with music
-
Listening to reference recordings
-
Practice tracks
-
General music playback
BLUETOOTH MIDI
Bluetooth MIDI is also supported where available by region.
This enables compatible wireless communication with music applications and helps simplify connection to Yamaha’s Smart Pianist ecosystem.
SMART PIANIST
The CLP-895GPWH is compatible with Yamaha’s:
Smart Pianist
app.
Smart Pianist provides a graphical interface for compatible functions and can make it easier to access:
-
Voices
-
Piano settings
-
Songs
-
Recording
-
Instrument configuration
from a compatible smart device.
HEADPHONE EXPERIENCE
Two standard stereo headphone connections are provided.
For the CFX and Bösendorfer Imperial piano Voices, Yamaha’s binaural sampling provides an immersive spatial presentation.
For other suitable Voices, Stereophonic Optimizer helps create a more natural headphone sound field.
This makes the CLP-895GP particularly well suited to serious private practice.
INTELLIGENT ACOUSTIC CONTROL
Intelligent Acoustic Control – IAC adjusts the sound balance when playing at lower volumes.
This helps maintain clarity in the bass and treble when practising quietly.
CONNECTIVITY
The CLP-895GP provides connectivity including:
-
2 × standard stereo headphone outputs
-
AUX IN
-
AUX OUT L/L+R and R
-
USB TO DEVICE
-

🎵 FAIR DEAL MUSIC EXPERT VERDICT ★★★★★
Best suited for: Pianists wanting the very best grand-style instrument in Yamaha’s current piano-focused Clavinova CLP range, particularly where premium keyboard feel, powerful acoustic projection and furniture presence are all equally important.
Likely upgrade path: Existing CLP-700 Series flagship owners, older CLP grand-style owners, premium digital piano users, or acoustic-piano players seeking the convenience of a high-end digital instrument.
Useful pairings: Quality headphones for private practice, Yamaha Smart Pianist on a compatible device and suitable USB storage for recording.
Our tip: If you are comparing the CLP-895GP with the CLP-865GP, don't make the decision on cabinet appearance alone. Both look like digital grands, but the 895GP moves into an entirely different performance tier with GrandTouch, wooden white keys, 88-key Linear Graded Hammers, counterweights, GP Response Damper and the flagship three-way speaker architecture.
FDM view: The CLP-895GPWH is about as uncompromising as the CLP concept gets. It combines the convenience of digital piano ownership with Yamaha’s finest current Clavinova keyboard technology and a sound system specifically designed to make use of its grand-style cabinet. The Polished White finish turns an already substantial instrument into a genuine centrepiece.
