Yamaha GENOS 2 Arranger Workstation Keyboard
Description
The Yamaha Genos2 is Yamaha’s flagship 76-key arranger workstation, created for musicians who want exceptional sounds, sophisticated automatic accompaniment and powerful live-performance tools in one premium instrument.
Building on the original Genos, Genos2 combines Yamaha’s detailed AWM sample-based sound technology with FM synthesis inspired by the legendary DX7, giving players an enormous palette ranging from expressive acoustic instruments and orchestral sounds to classic electric pianos, organs, synths and modern electronic textures.
With 1,991 preset Voices, 75 Drum/SFX Kits and 800 accompaniment Styles, Genos2 can take you from a solo piano performance to a complete, dynamically controlled backing arrangement within seconds. Ambient Drums, Style Dynamics Control and Steinberg REVelation Reverb add further realism and control, while the 76-key FSX keyboard with initial touch and aftertouch provides the expressive response serious players expect.
For home musicians, composers, entertainers and professional performers looking for Yamaha’s most advanced arranger workstation experience, Genos2 sits at the top of the range.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT
The biggest attraction of Genos2 is not simply how much technology Yamaha has packed inside it. It is how quickly that technology can become music.
Choose a Voice, select an accompaniment Style and you can build a polished arrangement around your playing without needing to programme every individual instrument. The 800 Styles cover a huge musical range, while One Touch Settings can instantly call up suitable Voices and performance settings.
For experienced arranger players, Genos2 provides considerable depth. For musicians who simply want to sit down and play, much of that sophistication remains accessible through its large touchscreen, registrations, playlists and physical controls.
It is equally capable of being the centre of a sophisticated home music setup or a powerful performance workstation for a working entertainer.
DETAILED FEATURES & BENEFITS
AWM Meets FM – Two Distinct Sound Technologies
One of the defining developments in Genos2 is its combination of AWM Stereo Sampling, AEM technology and FM synthesis.
AWM technology forms the foundation for highly detailed recreations of acoustic and electric instruments, while Yamaha’s FM technology introduces another character entirely.
FM synthesis has deep roots in Yamaha history, most famously through the DX7. On Genos2 it provides everything from recognisable vintage digital tones to contemporary, dynamic synthesiser sounds.
This makes Genos2 particularly versatile for players whose repertoire crosses decades and genres.
1,991 Voices – An Extraordinary Instrument Collection
Genos2 provides 1,991 preset Voices plus 75 Drum/SFX Kits and 480 XG Voices.
The sound library includes:
-
106 Super Articulation2 Voices
-
437 Super Articulation Voices
-
141 FM Voices
-
40 Sweet! Voices
-
81 Cool! Voices
-
188 Live! Voices
-
25 OrganFlutes Voices
-
123 MegaVoices
-
Ambient Drum/SFX content
-
Revo Drum/SFX content
Super Articulation technologies are particularly important when recreating acoustic instruments. They allow characteristic performance details and articulations to become part of the way the sound responds, helping instruments feel more natural and convincing when played from a keyboard.
The result is much more than a large preset count: Genos2 gives performers a substantial library of sounds designed for expressive playing.
800 Accompaniment Styles
At the heart of any premium arranger workstation is its Style engine, and Genos2 includes 800 preset Styles.
Each Style acts like a responsive backing band, following the chords you play and allowing you to control different musical sections in real time.
You have access to:
-
3 Intros
-
4 Main Variations
-
4 Fills
-
Break
-
3 Endings
-
4 One Touch Settings per Style
This allows an arrangement to develop naturally rather than simply repeating the same backing pattern throughout a song.
Style Dynamics Control
Style Dynamics Control gives you direct control over the intensity and energy of the accompaniment.
Instead of treating an arranger Style as a fixed backing track, you can make the backing feel more restrained or energetic as the performance develops.
That can make a significant difference when moving from a quiet verse into a chorus or building towards the final section of a song.
Ambient Drums
Drums have a huge influence on how realistic an arranger sounds.
Genos2's Ambient Drums technology gives the player greater control over the perceived room ambience surrounding selected drum sounds, helping the rhythm section sit more naturally within different arrangements.
The practical benefit is a drum performance that can feel less like an isolated collection of samples and more like part of a complete production.
Steinberg REVelation Reverb
Genos2 incorporates REVelation Reverb technology associated with Steinberg.
High-quality reverb is especially valuable on an instrument containing such a broad collection of acoustic, orchestral, vocal and ensemble sounds. Rather than simply making a Voice sound more distant, carefully chosen ambience can give instruments a believable sense of space and help complex arrangements blend together.
Expressive 76-Key FSX Keyboard
Genos2 uses Yamaha's 76-key FSX organ-style keyboard with Initial Touch and Aftertouch.
Initial Touch responds to how strongly you initially play a note, while Aftertouch allows supported sounds or assigned parameters to respond to additional pressure after the note has already been played.
For an advanced performer, this means more musical expression without constantly having to reach for another controller.
The 76-note range also provides significantly more room for splits, layers and two-handed playing than a conventional 61-key arranger.
384-Note Maximum Polyphony
Genos2's sound architecture provides up to 384 notes of polyphony, divided between preset AWM Voices, expansion AWM Voices and FM Voices.
That headroom becomes particularly useful when building sophisticated arrangements with accompaniment parts, layered keyboard Voices, sustained sounds and other elements playing simultaneously.
Live Control That Makes Sense On Stage
A touchscreen is excellent for navigation, but performers also need immediate physical control.
Genos2 therefore provides:
-
6 assignable knobs with LED gauges
-
9 assignable sliders with LED gauges
-
9 assignable buttons
-
3 Articulation buttons
-
Assignable joystick
-
Cross Fader
The LED gauges are particularly useful in lower-light performance environments because you can see the current position or status of controls much more easily.
9-Inch Colour Touchscreen
The central 9-inch 800 x 480 colour touchscreen provides access to the extensive Genos2 feature set without requiring the instrument to be covered in menus and buttons.
Its anti-reflective design also improves visibility, an important consideration whether the keyboard is being used under stage lighting or in a bright home environment.
A secondary Live Control display provides additional visual feedback for the assignable controls.
Chord Looper
Chord Looper lets you record a chord sequence and have Genos2 repeat it automatically.
That can free your left hand from continually supplying chords, allowing you to concentrate on melody, improvisation or more involved two-handed keyboard parts.
It is equally useful as a practice, composition and live-performance tool.
Vocal Harmony & Synth Vocoder
Connect a suitable microphone directly to Genos2 and the workstation becomes part of your vocal setup as well as your keyboard rig.
The microphone connection is a combo jack and supports +48V phantom power, while the internal system provides Vocal Harmony presets and Synth Vocoder functionality.
For solo entertainers in particular, having keyboard, accompaniment and vocal processing integrated into one workstation can simplify the overall performance setup.
HDMI External Display Output
The built-in HDMI output can send display information to a compatible external screen at up to 1280 x 720p.
This can be particularly useful for displaying lyrics, scores or mirroring the main display depending on the application.
For entertainers, groups and home sing-along use, the ability to put lyrics onto a larger screen is especially useful.
USB Audio Interface
Genos2 also functions as a USB audio interface, allowing digital audio to be transferred between the workstation and a compatible computer or device through USB.
For musicians who record, produce content or want to integrate their arranger into a computer-based setup, this reduces the need for additional hardware in many workflows.
Expansion Capability
Genos2 isn't limited to its factory sound library.
It provides approximately 3GB of capacity for expansion Voice data and supports Voice and Style expansion through Yamaha Expansion Manager.
That gives players the opportunity to customise the workstation with additional musical content to suit their repertoire.
WHO IS IT FOR?
The Yamaha Genos2 is particularly well suited to:
-
Professional and semi-professional keyboard entertainers
-
Experienced home organ and arranger players
-
Existing Yamaha Genos owners looking for the latest generation
-
Tyros-series players considering a flagship upgrade
-
Songwriters and composers who want arrangements quickly
-
Singers who accompany themselves
-
Musicians who perform a very broad repertoire
-
Players wanting high-quality acoustic and electronic sounds in one instrument
-
Arranger enthusiasts who want Yamaha's flagship model rather than a mid-range workstation
For a beginner who simply needs basic piano and accompaniment functions, Genos2 may offer far more capability than necessary. For a serious arranger player who wants a workstation they can grow into rather than quickly outgrow, that depth is precisely the attraction.
PLAYING STYLES & APPLICATIONS
Genos2 is exceptionally versatile and can suit:
Live entertainment – Build complete arrangements while performing solo or as part of a duo.
Home playing – Enjoy sophisticated accompaniment and an enormous sound library without needing a computer.
Pop & rock – Combine acoustic instruments with electric guitars, organs, synths and contemporary rhythm sections.
Jazz & standards – Make use of expressive acoustic Voices, accompaniment Styles and flexible chord recognition.
Ballroom & traditional repertoire – A natural application for Yamaha's extensive arranger ecosystem.
Electronic & '80s music – The FM engine gives Genos2 an especially strong connection with classic Yamaha digital synthesis.
Songwriting & arranging – Quickly turn a chord progression or melody into a more complete musical arrangement.
Recording & content creation – MIDI sequencing, audio recording and USB audio connectivity make Genos2 much more than a live accompaniment keyboard.
Vocal performance – Microphone input, Vocal Harmony and Synth Vocoder functionality support the singing keyboard player.
HOW IT COMPARES
Yamaha Genos2 vs Original Genos
For existing Genos players, Genos2 keeps the familiar flagship arranger concept while significantly developing the sound and performance engine.
Key Genos2 attractions include FM synthesis, Ambient Drums, Style Dynamics Control, REVelation Reverb, an expanded Voice and Style library, LED-equipped Live Controls and direct HDMI display connectivity.
An original Genos remains an extremely capable arranger, but Genos2 is the logical choice for the player wanting Yamaha's current flagship platform and its newer sound technologies.
Yamaha Genos2 vs Yamaha PSR-SX920
The PSR-SX920 is a strong alternative for players who want a modern Yamaha arranger at a lower level of investment.
Genos2 moves into flagship territory with its 76-key FSX aftertouch keyboard, much larger sound and Style resources, extensive physical Live Controls, FM synthesis engine and more comprehensive connectivity.
Choose the PSR-SX920 when portability, budget and a 61-key format are priorities. Choose Genos2 when the arranger workstation itself is the centrepiece of your musical setup and you want Yamaha's premium experience.
