The Yamaha YDP-S56B Arius Digital Piano Bundle in Black combines Yamaha’s more advanced slimline Arius digital piano with a coordinated Stagg PBF39 BKM VBK adjustable piano bench and Yamaha HPH-50B headphones.

At the centre of the package is the Yamaha YDP-S56B Arius Digital Piano in Black.

The YDP-S56 is designed for pianists who want a more sophisticated keyboard and stronger internal sound system without moving to a deeper traditional upright-style cabinet.

Its 88-note GrandTouch-E keyboard features synthetic ebony and ivory keytops plus escapement, providing a more advanced playing platform than the GHS action used by the YDP-S36.

The principal piano Voice is sampled from Yamaha’s flagship CFX concert grand piano, while Virtual Resonance Modeling Lite – VRM Lite recreates elements of the complex resonance produced as strings, keys and pedals interact inside an acoustic grand.

The YDP-S56 also provides 192-note polyphony, 10 Voices, 353 preset Songs, three pedals with half-pedalling, two-track MIDI recording, Bluetooth Audio and MIDI, 24-bit USB audio, Smart Pianist compatibility and Stereophonic Optimizer.

Its 20W × 2 amplification system drives twin 12cm speakers with diffuser grilles, giving the YDP-S56 considerably greater room-filling authority than the YDP-S36 while retaining the slimline cabinet format.

This Fair Deal Music bundle then completes the setup with two practical accessories.

The Stagg PBF39 BKM VBK adjustable bench provides a dedicated playing position with a black matt finish and black velvet top, while the Yamaha HPH-50B headphones provide private practice whenever the internal speakers are not appropriate.

WHY THIS BUNDLE MAKES SENSE

The YDP-S56B is aimed at customers who want both a better keyboard action and a slimmer cabinet.

That makes it a particularly attractive middle ground.

You get the more sophisticated GrandTouch-E action normally associated with the YDP-166 class of Arius piano, but inside the shallow, contemporary S-series cabinet.

This bundle then completes the setup.

The Stagg adjustable bench gives the pianist a proper seated position.

The Yamaha HPH-50B headphones make private practice possible from day one.

And the coordinated Black finishes keep the entire package visually consistent.

YAMAHA YDP-S56B – THE STEP-UP SLIMLINE ARIUS

The YDP-S56 is the natural upgrade from the YDP-S36.

The two models share the same overall slimline concept, but the YDP-S56 improves the two physical areas that matter most every time you play:

keyboard action and speaker power.

The YDP-S36 uses:

• GHS keyboard

• Matt black keytops

• 8W × 2 amplification

The YDP-S56 upgrades to:

• GrandTouch-E keyboard

• Synthetic ebony and ivory keytops

• Escapement

• 20W × 2 amplification

Yamaha positions the YDP-S56 as a slim, contemporary piano with a more responsive GrandTouch-E action and richer internal sound system.

88-NOTE GRANDTOUCH-E KEYBOARD

The defining upgrade on the YDP-S56 is Yamaha’s GrandTouch-E keyboard.

It provides:

• 88 weighted keys

• Synthetic ivory white-key surfaces

• Synthetic ebony black-key surfaces

• Escapement

• Approx. 10mm key stroke

• Four Touch Sensitivity settings

Yamaha describes the action as responding consistently across different playing techniques and dynamics, giving the player greater expressive control.

SYNTHETIC EBONY & IVORY KEYTOPS

The GrandTouch-E keyboard uses synthetic ebony and ivory keytops.

Their subtly textured surfaces are designed to provide a more secure and comfortable feel during longer practice sessions.

ESCAPEMENT

GrandTouch-E incorporates escapement.

This recreates an element of the subtle tactile sensation experienced in an acoustic grand piano action when a key is played slowly and with control.

YAMAHA CFX CONCERT GRAND PIANO VOICE

The main piano Voice is sampled from Yamaha’s flagship CFX concert grand piano.

The CFX provides a rich tonal foundation suited to:

• Classical repertoire

• Piano lessons

• Grade study

• Contemporary piano

• Everyday practice

• Home performance

Yamaha specifically highlights the CFX Voice as one of the core sound features of the YDP-S56.

VIRTUAL RESONANCE MODELING LITE – VRM LITE

An acoustic grand piano produces complex resonance as strings interact with one another and respond to pedal use.

Yamaha’s Virtual Resonance Modeling Lite – VRM Lite recreates elements of these sympathetic interactions digitally.

The result is a more connected, resonant piano sound that responds dynamically to the keys and pedals.

192-NOTE POLYPHONY

The YDP-S56 provides 192-note maximum polyphony.

This gives ample capacity for:

• Complex piano passages

• Sustain-heavy repertoire

• Layered Voices

• MIDI playback

• Detailed pedal use

10 BUILT-IN VOICES

The YDP-S56 includes 10 instrument Voices, including grand piano, electric piano, pipe organ, vibraphone and strings.

The instrument remains strongly piano-focused while providing enough tonal variety for recreational playing and layering.

DUAL MODE

Dual mode allows two Voices to be layered across the keyboard.

For example:

Piano + Strings

DUO MODE

Duo divides the keyboard into two equivalent pitch ranges.

This can be especially useful for:

• Teacher and student

• Parent and child

• Piano lessons

• Side-by-side demonstrations

• Duet-style practice

THREE-PEDAL SYSTEM

The YDP-S56 includes:

• Damper

• Sostenuto

• Soft

The damper supports half-pedalling, allowing sustain to be controlled according to pedal depth.

20W × 2 AMPLIFICATION

The YDP-S56 uses:

20W × 2 amplification

driving:

12cm speakers with diffuser grilles × 2.

This is a significant step up from the YDP-S36’s 8W × 2 system.

The stronger amplification gives the YDP-S56:

• Greater headroom

• Stronger bass presence

• More authority at normal room volumes

• A more substantial home-piano sound

DIFFUSER GRILLE SPEAKER DESIGN

Yamaha’s diffuser grille helps higher frequencies project clearly into the room.

Yamaha specifically highlights the improved treble projection and balanced sound field created by the diffuser system.

INTELLIGENT ACOUSTIC CONTROL

Intelligent Acoustic Control – IAC helps maintain tonal balance when playing at lower volume settings.

That makes it especially useful for home practice, where the instrument may often be played quietly.

PRIVATE HEADPHONE PRACTICE

The YDP-S56 provides two standard stereo headphone outputs.

This bundle includes the Yamaha HPH-50B, so private practice is available immediately.

Headphones can be especially useful for:

• Evening practice

• Early mornings

• Flats and apartments

• Shared homes

• Family environments

STEREOPHONIC OPTIMIZER

Yamaha’s Stereophonic Optimizer creates a more spacious impression through headphones.

Rather than making the piano sound appear to originate directly inside the listener’s ears, Yamaha aims to recreate more of the natural acoustic spread of a piano in front of you.

BLUETOOTH AUDIO & MIDI

The YDP-S56 includes Bluetooth Audio and MIDI, subject to regional availability.

BLUETOOTH AUDIO

Compatible music can be streamed through the piano’s built-in speakers.

Useful applications include:

• Playing along with songs

• Backing tracks

• Reference recordings

• General audio playback

BLUETOOTH MIDI

Bluetooth MIDI allows wireless communication with compatible music and learning applications.

SMART PIANIST

The YDP-S56 is compatible with Yamaha’s Smart Pianist app.

Yamaha highlights several benefits:

• Simplified controls

• Sheet music for all 353 preset Songs

• Practice-support functions

• Recording and saving performances

• Wireless Bluetooth connection on compatible devices

353 PRESET SONGS

The YDP-S56 includes:

• 10 Voice Demo Songs

• 50 Classics

• 303 Lesson Songs

The lesson material includes established practice repertoire and exercises for developing pianists.

TWO-TRACK MIDI RECORDING

The onboard MIDI recorder provides:

• 1 User Song

• 2 tracks

• Approx. 150KB per Song

• Approx. 11,000 notes

This can be useful for:

• Practice review

• Recording each hand separately

• Playing along with a previously recorded part

• Evaluating timing and dynamics

24-BIT USB AUDIO INTERFACE

The YDP-S56 provides:

44.1kHz / 24-bit stereo USB audio.

This enables digital audio communication with compatible computers and devices for:

• Recording

• Online lessons

• Music software

• Educational applications

• Digital practice workflows

SLIMLINE CABINET

One of the defining strengths of the YDP-S56 is its shallow cabinet.

Yamaha specifies:

Depth: 309mm

With the key cover open:

317mm

With anti-fall brackets attached:

382mm overall depth.

That makes the YDP-S56 much easier to accommodate than a traditional upright-style home digital piano while still providing:

• 88 weighted keys

• Three pedals

• Built-in speakers

• Integrated key cover

• Furniture-style installation

STAGG PBF39 BKM VBK ADJUSTABLE PIANO BENCH

Correct seating position matters for:

• Wrist angle

• Arm height

• Shoulder comfort

• Pedal access

• General posture

The included Stagg PBF39 BKM VBK provides a dedicated adjustable seat rather than requiring the player to rely on fixed-height household furniture.

The Black finish also complements the YDP-S56B naturally.

YAMAHA HPH-50B HEADPHONES

The included Yamaha HPH-50B provides a lightweight closed-back headphone solution for regular digital-piano practice.

HOW IT COMPARES

YDP-S56 vs YDP-S36

Both models share the same slimline Arius philosophy.

The YDP-S36 provides:

• GHS keyboard

• Matt black keytops

• 8W × 2 amplification

• 37kg

• 296mm cabinet depth

The YDP-S56 upgrades to:

• GrandTouch-E keyboard

• Synthetic ebony and ivory keytops

• Escapement

• 20W × 2 amplification

• 40kg

• 309mm cabinet depth

The increase in cabinet depth is small, but the upgrade in keyboard and speaker performance is significant.

YDP-S56 vs YDP-166

This is an especially useful comparison.

Both models provide:

• GrandTouch-E keyboard

• Synthetic ebony and ivory keytops

• Escapement

• Yamaha CFX Voice

• VRM Lite

• 192-note polyphony

• 10 Voices

• 353 preset Songs

• 20W × 2 amplification

• 12cm diffuser speakers

• Bluetooth Audio/MIDI

• 24-bit USB audio

The major difference is the cabinet.

YDP-166

• Traditional upright-style cabinet

• 422mm deep

• 42kg

• Sliding key cover

YDP-S56

• Slimline contemporary cabinet

• 309mm deep

• 40kg

• Folding key cover

So if you like the YDP-166 specification but need a shallower cabinet, the YDP-S56 is the natural alternative.

🎵 FAIR DEAL MUSIC EXPERT VERDICT ★★★★★

Best suited for: Developing pianists, serious beginners and grade students who want the stronger keyboard and speaker specification of the YDP-166 class but need a significantly slimmer cabinet.

Likely upgrade path: Particularly relevant for players moving from portable weighted pianos, entry-level Arius models or compact home digital pianos.

Useful pairings: Yamaha Smart Pianist on a compatible smartphone or tablet adds convenient wireless control and access to built-in learning material.

Our tip: The YDP-S56 is the one to look at if you like the YDP-166 but don’t want a 422mm-deep cabinet. You’re keeping the GrandTouch-E action and 20W × 2 amplification, while reducing cabinet depth to just 309mm.

FDM view: This is arguably the sweet spot for customers who want serious Arius performance in a compact room. The GrandTouch-E action, synthetic ebony/ivory surfaces, escapement and stronger amplifier system make it a genuine step up from the YDP-S36, while the slim cabinet remains easy to integrate into modern homes.
