The BOSS DB-90 Dr. Beat is a feature-rich digital metronome built for musicians who require more than just a simple click track. It includes drum patterns, voice count, note mixing, and a Rhythm Coach training function, making it suitable for practice, rehearsal, and performance. Its backlit LCD and multiple sliders, buttons, and a rotary dial facilitate hands-on editing and real-time control. The unit also supports input from instruments or microphones, MIDI synchronisation, and external trigger signals, expanding its flexibility in various setups.

Controls include a TEMPO/VALUE dial for setting BPM, buttons for BEAT/PATTERN and VOICE selection, and sliders for adjusting note-mix levels such as quarter, eighth, sixteenth, and triplet, as well as accent volumes. It also features a MEMORY function to store up to 50 metronome configurations, and a LOOP mode that cycles through user-saved patterns in sequence. There is also a MUTE button for temporarily silencing rhythm output while maintaining tempo internally. 

Connectivity includes 1/4-inch jacks for instrument input, trigger input, START/STOP footswitch, MEMORY up/down, and press uses, along with a stereo output and headphone jack. The device can be powered by an internal 9V battery or an external PSA-series adapter. An auto power-off feature deactivates the unit after 60 minutes of inactivity to conserve battery.
