The 1973 Fender Twin Reverb Silverface is a 100-watt all-tube amplifier that delivers the powerful clean tone and headroom the Twin is renowned for. Housed in a sturdy black tolex cabinet with silver/blue sparkle grille cloth and the distinctive aluminium “drip edge” trim phased out earlier in the decade, this model retains the classic large black skirted knobs and dual-channel layout. Its circuitry is driven by four 6L6GC power tubes and a complement of 12AX7 and 12AT7 preamp tubes, producing a bold, articulate sound that has long been favoured by professional guitarists.

The amp features Normal and Vibrato channels, each with independent volume, treble, middle, and bass controls, while the Vibrato channel adds reverb, tremolo speed, and intensity adjustments. Both channels include bright switches to enhance high-end clarity when desired. Reverb is delivered via Fender’s classic long-spring reverb tank, and the tremolo circuit provides lush modulation, controllable with a footswitch. The Twin Reverb’s master volume control, introduced in this era, offers greater flexibility in shaping tone at different stage volumes.

This particular version of the Twin Reverb comes equipped with dual 12-inch speakers, often Oxford, Utah, or JBL options, delivering the wide projection and balance that makes it a mainstay on stage. Known for its clean headroom, shimmering highs, and solid low end, the 1973 Silverface Twin Reverb is a versatile amplifier suited for a wide range of genres, from country and jazz to rock and blues. Its robust build and unmistakable tonal character make it one of the defining amplifiers of its time.
