Vintage & Pre-loved - Acoustic Guitars

The acoustic guitar has a rich and varied history, there is evidence to suggest the modern acoustic guitar was modelled on the European lute or the Moorish Oud. The acoustic guitar is popular with new players as they don’t require an amp. Therefore, the second hand acoustic guitar market is a popular place for beginners to acquire a better guitar on a lower budget.

Why would you purchase used acoustic guitars over new?

Buying from a reseller like us means it will have had to meet certain quality control criteria and come with a warranty. Other than that, they are a great way to get into guitar playing. The possible issues from buying a second hand acoustic guitar from a private reseller is that they have no manufacturer's warranty, and what condition it could be in. If you buy from a private seller, then you cannot be sure as to what work has been done or how much warping the neck could have.

Cheaper for beginners

Probably the first guitar any of us have owned was a cheap acoustic guitar. If you are learning to play guitar on a guitar that doesn’t suit you, then you are more likely to give it up. Used acoustic guitars offer a cheaper way to get a better equipment that you are more likely to stick with.

No longer in production

Some of the most well-crafted and unique acoustic guitars were made in the mid-20th century. Martin are one of the most popular brands on the market, and they still make some of the best hand crafted guitars. However, they are notoriously hard to come by.

Unique tone

With used acoustic guitars, the sound can change over time. The wood becomes worn, and the sound hole will develop some imperfections. Some of the tonality of a second hand acoustic guitar comes from the fact they have been slightly mistreated. A heavy worn fret board, a new bridge, and even a dent in the body can give a unique tone. You can’t get that with a brand-new model.

What kinds of used guitars are for sale with Fair Deal Music?

Second hand nylon string acoustic guitar

The nylon strings are popular in classical compositions as they have a slightly muted, mellower sound to them. The strings are under less tension than a used acoustic guitar with steel strings, so they can be easier to manipulate.

Second hand steel string acoustic guitar

Steel string used acoustic guitars are probably the most recognisable, and are used in a plethora of genres. Country and pop music use steel string guitars for their brighter sounds and offer better pitch bending than nylon. They are harsher on the fingers for some beginners.
