The Boss BE‑5 Multi‑Effects Pedal is an early multi‑effects guitar pedal that combines several classic Boss circuits into one compact floor unit. Instead of a single effect, it integrates multiple analogue and digital sections — including compression, overdrive/distortion, noise suppression, chorus and digital delay — all wired in a single signal chain with individual footswitches for each effect block. This design reflects how multi‑effect units were originally built by combining well‑known standalone Boss circuits into one pedal format.  

The BE‑5’s control layout mirrors the individual effects it contains. The Compressor section is equipped with Level, Tone, Attack, and Sustain knobs, letting you shape the dynamics and articulation of your signal. The Overdrive/Distortion section typically features Level, Tone, Drive, and Color controls, blending overdrive and distortion voices and adjusting overall gain character. A dedicated Noise Suppressor Threshold control helps reduce unwanted noise, while the Digital Delay segment provides Range, Feedback, and Effect Level knobs for setting echo length, number of repeats, and mix of delay effect, and the Chorus section offers Rate and Depth controls to modulate the pitch and intensity of the effect. 

Hardware on the BE‑5 includes a row of sturdy footswitches, one for each effect block, allowing you to engage or bypass individual effects independently. Inputs and outputs support mono and stereo operation, and an effects loop lets you insert other pedals into the signal chain between key sections of the unit. The pedal is powered by a standard 9 V DC supply and built in Boss’s compact, road‑ready format, offering a vintage multi‑effect experience that consolidates several classic Boss sounds into one unit.
