The Strymon Lex Rotary is a compact effects pedal designed to accurately recreate the sound and movement of a classic rotary speaker cabinet. It models the interaction between the rotating horn and drum, capturing the characteristic Doppler modulation and spatial depth associated with vintage rotary systems. The pedal is housed in a robust metal enclosure and is intended for use with electric guitars, keyboards, and other amplified instruments requiring authentic rotary speaker tones in a pedalboard-friendly format.

The control set focuses on the core elements of a traditional rotary speaker. Fast Rotor Speed determines the upper rotation rate when the effect is switched into fast mode, while Mic Distance adjusts the perceived proximity of the virtual microphones to the cabinet, affecting depth and stereo spread. Horn Level controls the balance between the high-frequency horn and the lower rotor, and Preamp Drive adds adjustable saturation based on the input stage of classic rotary amplifiers, allowing control over harmonic content and output character.

Footswitch operation is split between two functions, with one switch dedicated to toggling between slow and fast rotor speeds and the other serving as a true bypass control. This layout allows real-time speed changes that mirror the mechanical behaviour of a physical rotary speaker. Standard input and output connections enable easy integration into a variety of signal chains, and the pedal operates on a standard 9-volt DC power supply, making it suitable for studio and live performance environments where rotary speaker emulation is required.
