The BOSS TR‑2 is a compact guitar effects pedal that produces classic volume‑modulation tremolo, emulating the amp‑tremolo sounds associated with vintage equipment. It works via a built‑in low‑frequency oscillator that modulates the output volume, creating rhythmic swells or choppy pulses depending on the settings.

There are three controls: Rate (sets the speed of the tremolo), Depth (adjusts how pronounced the volume modulation is), and Wave (changes the shape of modulation — from smooth sine‑wave to more abrupt square‑wave style). This gives flexibility to dial in anything from subtle, warm tremolo to dramatic, percussive effects.

The pedal uses standard ¼-inch input and output jacks, and can be powered by a 9 V battery or an appropriate DC adaptor. It comes in a sturdy metal chassis suited to both home use and gigging, and uses buffered bypass so that the signal remains intact when the effect is off.
