The Martin D-42 is a premium dreadnought acoustic guitar renowned for its luxurious appointments and exceptional tonal quality. It features a solid Sitka spruce top with an ageing toner finish, complemented by solid East Indian rosewood back and sides. The guitar's body is bound with antique white binding, and it boasts an abalone rosette and multi-stripe inlays, adding to its visual appeal.

Equipped with a modified low oval neck profile and a high-performance taper, the D-42 offers comfortable playability. The fingerboard is made of ebony, adorned with Style 45 snowflake inlays, and the bridge is also crafted from ebony with a compensated bone saddle. The guitar has a scale length of 25.4 inches and a nut width of 1 3/4 inches, providing a familiar feel for many players.

The D-42's tonal characteristics are shaped by its forward-shifted scalloped X-bracing, which enhances resonance and projection. This design contributes to a rich, balanced sound with pronounced bass and clear treble frequencies. The guitar is finished in a high-gloss lacquer, showcasing its fine craftsmanship and the natural beauty of its tonewoods.
