Roland R-8 Human Rhythm Composer, with a Sound Library ROM card, (Used, Comm)
The Roland R-8 Human Rhythm Composer, with a Sound Library ROM card, is a PCM-based drum machine that offers both a wide internal sample set and expandable external sounds. It has 68 built-in instruments (voices) and allows the addition of 26 extra sounds via a ROM card. It uses 16-bit / 44.1 kHz sampling, with adjustable parameters per instrument like pitch (±4 octaves), decay, nuance, pan, and output routing.
Its sequencing capabilities include 32 preset rhythm patterns and 100 user patterns, each up to 99 bars in length, plus ten songs which stitch together multiple patterns. Tempo ranges from 20 to 250 bpm. There is also a micro-timing resolution of up to 1/384 note during playback, so groove and feel can be finely adjusted.
On the I/O side it includes multiple individual outputs (up to 8), stereo main outputs, headphone jack, MIDI In/Out/Thru, and slots for ROM cards and RAM (for pattern/song storage). The front panel has velocity/pressure-sensitive pads as well as sliders for live control of values such as volume and pitch. Power consumption is roughly 7 watts and dimensions are about 410 mm × 290 mm × 70 mm.
