The 1978 Fender Standard Stratocaster Hardtail is a vintage American-made electric guitar featuring a solid ash body finished in Natural lacquer. Unlike the more common tremolo-equipped Stratocaster models of the period, this version is fitted with a strings-through-body hardtail bridge, providing increased tuning stability and sustain. The one-piece maple neck is secured with Fender's three-bolt neck plate design and incorporates the Micro-Tilt adjustment system, while the maple fingerboard carries 21 frets and traditional black dot position markers.

Electronics consist of three Fender single-coil pickups controlled by a three-way selector switch, master volume control and two tone controls. The ash body construction contributes to the instrument's distinctive appearance, with the natural finish showcasing the wood grain beneath the clear coat. Additional period-correct features include sealed Fender tuning machines, chrome hardware, a 25.5" scale length and the large 1970s-style headstock bearing the black Fender logo decal.

This particular example has been refretted, with the lacquer on the maple fingerboard professionally refinished following the fretwork to restore the neck's original appearance and feel. The body finish also displays some visible paintbrush marks within the clear coat, indicating previous cosmetic touch-up work. Aside from these alterations, the guitar retains the specifications and construction associated with a late-1970s Fender Stratocaster Hardtail finished in Natural.
