Why You Should Cover Your Keys

A keyboard dust cover is more than just an accessory; it is preventative maintenance. Over time, dust and pet hair work their way down the side of the keys. Once this debris reaches the contact strips and sensors underneath, you start getting sticky keys, inconsistent volume, or dead notes. Sunlight is another major factor. UV rays can turn white keys yellow and make plastic casings brittle. If your instrument sits near a window, a cover is essential to block those rays. It also acts as a safety barrier against accidental coffee spills, saving you from an expensive repair bill.

Which Material is Best?

Different environments need different types of protection. Here is a quick guide to the materials we stock:

Stretchy Spandex & Lycra

These are our most popular universal keyboard covers. They are made from soft, breathable material with an elasticated shock cord around the hem. They are great for home use because they look tidy and are very easy to wash. The elastic ensures a tight seal around the instrument, stopping dust from creeping up underneath.

Vinyl & Nylon

If your keyboard is in a busy environment like a classroom, a church, or a garage, you need something tougher. Vinyl covers provide a solid barrier against liquid spills and are generally thicker than spandex. They are easy to wipe down with a damp cloth, making them the hygienic choice for shared instruments.

Polycarbonate Hard Shells

Synthesizers and samplers often have delicate faders, knobs, and screens protruding from the top. A soft cloth cover won't protect these from impact. Rigid covers (like those from Decksaver) sit over the control panel like a second skin. They are essential if you need to throw your gear into a backpack or if you have cats that like to walk across your equipment.

Sizing Guide: Getting the Right Fit

Most keyboard dust covers are sold based on the number of keys, but sizes can vary. A slim digital piano is much smaller than a bulky workstation, even if they both have 88 keys.

• 61-Note Covers: These usually fit standard MIDI controllers and portable keyboards like the Yamaha PSR or Casio CT series.
• 76-Note Covers: This is a middle ground size for arranger keyboards. Always check the width of the cover against your keyboard manual, as these instruments vary in length.
• 88-Note Covers: These come in two main styles: Slim for stage pianos and Wide for large workstations. If you have a keyboard with a deep control panel, a standard slim cover might be too tight.

Universal vs Custom Options

Our universal keyboard covers will fit the vast majority of instruments on the market. However, for premium boards like the Nord Stage or Korg Kronos, we also stock brand-specific options. These are moulded or stitched to the exact dimensions of that model.
