The BOSS Katana-50 Gen 2 is a 50-watt solid-state modelling combo amplifier built around BOSS’s Tube Logic architecture, designed to reproduce valve-style response and dynamic behaviour through digital processing and analogue power amplification. It features a custom 12-inch speaker housed in a closed-back combo cabinet and provides selectable power modes at 0.5W, 25W, and 50W for volume management across home, rehearsal, and stage use.

The amplifier includes five primary amp characters — Clean, Crunch, Lead, Brown, and Acoustic — each with multiple voicing variations introduced in the Gen 2 revision. The tonal response focuses on fast attack, tight low-end control, and high flexibility across clean and high-gain sounds. The Brown mode is specifically voiced for saturated modern distortion tones, while the Clean and Crunch channels provide wider dynamic range and lower-gain articulation.

The onboard effects section integrates BOSS modulation, delay, reverb, booster, and EQ processing directly into the amplifier without external pedals. USB connectivity allows deep editing through BOSS Tone Studio software, enabling detailed control over effects chains, EQ settings, channel memories, and cabinet resonance behaviour. The Katana-50 Gen 2 became one of the most widely used modelling combo amplifiers due to its balance of portability, programmability, and broad tonal range.
