DOD Gunslinger MOSFET Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal
Description
The DOD Gunslinger MOSFET Distortion is a touch-sensitive guitar distortion pedal designed to deliver everything from gritty boost and crunchy rhythm tones to saturated lead sounds while retaining strong note separation and playing dynamics.
Its MOSFET clipping circuit gives the Gunslinger a responsive, amp-like feel, while separate Low and High EQ controls make it easy to shape the pedal around different guitars and amplifiers. A gentle midrange emphasis helps lead lines and riffs stay present in a full band mix without relying on an exaggerated mid hump.
The Gunslinger can run at 9V or 12V, with 12V operation providing additional headroom and a more open response.

What Makes The DOD Gunslinger Special?
The Gunslinger is designed to combine the aggression of a distortion pedal with the feel and responsiveness of an amplifier being pushed hard.
Its MOSFET clipping provides a more open and dynamic response than many heavily compressed distortion circuits, helping individual notes remain defined even when the Gain control is turned up.
This makes the pedal particularly useful for players who want plenty of saturation without sacrificing pick attack, chord definition or string separation.
MOSFET Distortion
The Gunslinger's MOSFET-based distortion circuit produces a warm but aggressive drive character.
At lower Gain settings, the pedal can provide gritty boost and crunch.
Turn the Gain higher for:
-
Saturated rhythm guitar
-
Thick lead sounds
-
Sustaining distortion
-
Hard rock tones
-
Aggressive chord work
-
Harmonic-rich single-note lines
The circuit remains responsive to how hard you pick, helping the pedal feel more connected to your playing.
Gain Control
The Gain control determines how much distortion is applied.
Lower Gain Settings
Lower settings are useful for:
-
Gritty boost
-
Light overdrive
-
Edge-of-breakup sounds
-
Adding extra drive to an already dirty amp
Higher Gain Settings
Increase Gain for:
-
Heavier saturation
-
Longer sustain
-
More compression
-
Aggressive rhythm sounds
-
Lead guitar
Unlike some high-gain pedals, the Gunslinger is designed to maintain strong note separation as saturation increases.
Level Control
The Level control adjusts the overall output volume.
Use it to:
-
Match your bypassed signal
-
Create a solo boost
-
Push the input of a valve amplifier
-
Drive another pedal harder
-
Add extra level alongside the distortion
The Gunslinger has enough output to function as both a main distortion pedal and a gain-stacking tool.
Independent Low EQ
The Low control boosts or cuts the bass frequencies.
Turn clockwise for:
-
More low-end weight
-
Bigger rhythm guitar
-
Fuller chords
-
Heavier distortion tones
Turn anticlockwise to:
-
Tighten muddy low frequencies
-
Increase perceived midrange definition
-
Keep low-tuned guitar more controlled
-
Make space in a dense mix
This makes the Gunslinger adaptable to both brighter and darker amplifiers.
Independent High EQ
The High control shapes the upper frequencies.
Turn clockwise for:
-
More attack
-
Increased clarity
-
Extra presence
-
A brighter lead tone
Turn anticlockwise to:
-
Smooth harsh treble
-
Warm up bright guitars
-
Reduce fizz at higher gain settings
-
Bring the midrange forward
Having separate Low and High controls gives the Gunslinger considerably more flexibility than a conventional single Tone control.
Built-In Midrange Presence
The Gunslinger has a mild natural midrange emphasis designed to help guitar remain audible in a band mix.
Rather than creating an extreme mid-heavy overdrive sound, the response keeps enough midrange presence to support riffs and lead guitar while preserving plenty of bass and treble control.
This works especially well for players who want distortion that cuts through without becoming thin or nasal.
9V & 12V Operation
The DOD Gunslinger can operate at either 9V or 12V.
9V
At 9V, the pedal delivers its normal distortion response with a slightly tighter and more compressed feel.
This is a strong choice for:
-
Rock
-
Blues
-
Classic rock
-
Heavier rhythm guitar
-
Conventional pedalboard power systems
12V
Running the Gunslinger at 12V increases the available headroom.
This can result in:
-
Greater dynamic range
-
A more open response
-
Reduced compression
-
Stronger note definition
-
More room for picking dynamics
Use only a suitable regulated power supply with the correct polarity.
Who Is It For?
The DOD Gunslinger is particularly well suited to:
-
Rock
-
Classic rock
-
Blues rock
-
Alternative
-
Indie
-
Hard rock
-
Lead guitar
-
Rhythm guitar
-
Valve amp users
-
Players stacking gain pedals
-
Guitarists who prefer responsive distortion
-
Players needing separate bass and treble EQ
Great For Lead Guitar
The Gunslinger's combination of saturation, midrange presence and EQ flexibility makes it especially effective for lead playing.
Increase Gain for sustain, add Level for extra volume and use the High control to fine-tune attack and definition.
The natural midrange character helps single-note lines remain audible without requiring excessive treble.
Great For Rhythm Guitar
The Gunslinger also works well for rhythm tones.
Its MOSFET circuit provides enough clarity to retain individual notes within chords, while the Low control lets you choose between large, full rhythm sounds and tighter low-end response.
This is particularly useful when moving between clean, crunch and higher-gain amplifier settings.
Gain Stacking
The Gunslinger can be combined with other gain pedals for a wider range of sounds.
Before Another Drive
Placing the Gunslinger before another overdrive or distortion can add saturation and change the way the second pedal clips.
After Another Drive
Placed after another gain pedal, it can provide additional EQ shaping and output level.
Into A Driven Amplifier
Lower Gain and higher Level settings can push an already breaking-up valve amplifier into additional saturation.
How It Compares
Gunslinger vs Conventional Distortion
Many distortion pedals use a single Tone control and relatively fixed EQ response.
The Gunslinger provides separate Low and High controls, allowing much more precise shaping of bass weight and upper-frequency attack.
Gunslinger vs Overdrive Pedal
A traditional overdrive generally offers lower gain and is often designed to push an amplifier.
The Gunslinger reaches significantly higher saturation levels while retaining the touch sensitivity and dynamic feel often associated with overdrive.
Gunslinger vs High-Gain Metal Distortion
The Gunslinger can produce substantial gain, but its focus is on dynamic, amp-like distortion rather than highly compressed modern metal tones.
Its strength lies in articulation, touch response and flexible EQ.
