The Line 6 Variax 700 in Black is a modelling guitar that combines traditional electric guitar construction with advanced digital tone technology. Its ash top over a mahogany body is carved and contoured for resonance, while a one-piece maple neck and rosewood fingerboard provide smooth playability across 22 frets and a 25.5-inch scale. Instead of standard magnetic pickups, it uses a hexaphonic piezo system that senses each string individually and sends that signal to the onboard modelling electronics.

This system allows the Variax 700 to emulate a wide variety of instruments, from classic single-coil and humbucker electrics to acoustic guitars, resonators, 12-strings, and even banjo- or sitar-like tones. Players can navigate these voices using a model selector knob along with a five-position pickup selector, while standard volume and tone controls shape each sound. This makes it possible to switch between vastly different tones without changing guitars.

For connectivity, the guitar outputs through a standard ¼-inch jack for amplifiers, or can route via an A/B footswitch to balanced XLR for PA or recording setups.
