Fender American Professional II Jazz Bass, Miami Blue Electric Bass Guitar
Description
Quick Product Summary
The Fender American Professional II Jazz Bass in Miami Blue combines the unmistakable versatility of the Jazz Bass with the refined playability and road-ready construction expected from Fender's American Professional range.
Built around a classic alder body, it features a comfortable maple Slim “C” neck, smooth rolled fingerboard edges and a 9.5" radius rosewood fingerboard with 20 narrow-tall frets. The result retains the quick, agile feel associated with the Jazz Bass while introducing thoughtful refinements for modern gigging and recording.
Two V-Mod II single-coil Jazz Bass pickups provide the punch, clarity and tonal blending that make a traditional J Bass so useful across different styles. Fender's HiMass Vintage bridge, Posiflex graphite neck reinforcement and lightweight vintage-style tuners add practical professional-level upgrades without turning the instrument into an overly complicated modern bass.
Finished in distinctive Miami Blue with a mint green pickguard and supplied with a Fender Deluxe Molded Case, this is a serious American-made bass for players who want classic passive Jazz Bass versatility with contemporary comfort and reliability.

Fair Deal Quality Control Assessment
Every new bass sold through Fair Deal Music is checked before leaving us, with attention given to the electronics, controls, hardware and general playing condition.
On the American Professional II Jazz Bass, this includes checking both V-Mod II pickups, the independent Volume controls, Master Tone, tuning hardware and HiMass Vintage bridge.
The bass is also checked and set up before leaving the shop. As with any wooden instrument, setup can shift slightly during delivery because of changes in temperature and humidity. If you need advice on action, neck relief, intonation, string choice or general bass setup after delivery, our experienced team is happy to help.
Why Choose The Fender American Professional II Jazz Bass?
V-Mod II Jazz Bass Pickups
Two V-Mod II single-coil Jazz Bass pickups are voiced specifically for their positions, giving the bass the articulation, clarity and characteristic midrange presence expected from a quality J Bass.
Rather than relying on active EQ or complex switching, the American Professional II retains the traditional passive Jazz Bass approach and lets the pickup blend do much of the tonal work.
Slim “C” Neck With Rolled Fingerboard Edges
The maple neck uses Fender's comfortable Slim “C” profile, paired with a traditional 1.5" nut width.
Smooth rolled fingerboard edges give the rosewood board a naturally broken-in feel, while the sculpted neck heel improves access when playing higher up the neck.
Posiflex Graphite Neck Reinforcement
Fender incorporates Posiflex graphite support rods beneath the fingerboard to increase neck stability.
For a professional instrument that may move regularly between home, rehearsal rooms, studios, stages and changing climates, this is a meaningful practical refinement.
HiMass Vintage Bridge
The 4-saddle HiMass Vintage bridge combines increased mass with the ability to install the strings either through the body or from the top of the bridge.
That gives players two stringing options while maintaining straightforward individual intonation and height adjustment.
Lightweight Vintage-Style Tuners
Fender's lightweight vintage-style tuning machines use tapered shafts and reduce unnecessary mass at the headstock while retaining a traditional Fender bass appearance.
Miami Blue With Rosewood
The bright Miami Blue gloss finish, dark rosewood fingerboard and mint green pickguard create a distinctive combination that stands apart from more traditional sunburst, black and white Jazz Bass finishes without looking disconnected from classic Fender design.

Comparison Against Popular Alternatives
American Professional II Jazz Bass vs Fender Player II Jazz Bass
The Player II Jazz Bass delivers the fundamental passive J Bass experience at a much lower price, with an alder body, rolled fingerboard edges and Player Series Alnico V pickups.
The American Professional II moves further towards a serious professional instrument with V-Mod II pickups, Posiflex graphite neck reinforcement, a sculpted heel, narrow-tall frets, HiMass Vintage bridge and included moulded hard case.
Choose the Player II when value is the priority. Choose the American Professional II when you want the extra refinement, hardware and USA-made professional specification.
American Professional II Jazz Bass vs American Ultra II Jazz Bass
The American Ultra II Jazz Bass takes Fender's modern bass platform much further, adding Noiseless pickups, an active 18-volt preamp, three-band EQ, active/passive switching, compound-radius fingerboard and a Modern “D” neck.
The American Professional II is the better choice for bassists who specifically want traditional passive Jazz Bass controls and conventional single-coil character with modern refinements. Choose the Ultra II when maximum tonal control, active electronics and high-performance neck geometry are priorities.
American Professional II Jazz Bass vs American Vintage II 1966 Jazz Bass
The American Vintage II 1966 Jazz Bass is designed around historical accuracy, with a 7.25" radius, bound round-laminated rosewood fingerboard, “U”-shape neck, nitrocellulose lacquer and Pure Vintage '66 pickups.
The American Professional II is considerably more contemporary, with its 9.5" radius, Slim “C” neck, rolled edges, sculpted heel and HiMass bridge. Choose the Vintage II when authentic mid-'60s specification is the goal; choose the Professional II for a more accommodating modern working instrument.
American Professional II Jazz Bass vs Precision Bass
A traditional Precision Bass focuses on one split-coil pickup and a simple Volume/Tone control arrangement, giving it a direct and immediately recognisable bass voice.
The Jazz Bass provides two independently adjustable pickups and a narrower nut, offering greater scope for altering attack, warmth and definition directly from the instrument.
Choose the Jazz Bass if tonal blending and a slim neck are important. Choose the Precision if simplicity and a more singular bass voice appeal more strongly.
Who Is The Fender American Professional II Jazz Bass For?
The American Professional II is aimed squarely at players who need a dependable bass for regular musical use rather than simply an entry point into the Jazz Bass design.
It is particularly well suited to:
-
Professional and semi-professional bassists
-
Regular gigging musicians
-
Studio and session players
-
Experienced Jazz Bass players
-
Bassists upgrading from Player or Squier models
-
Funk and soul musicians
-
Rock and indie bassists
-
Pop players
-
R&B and gospel musicians
-
Jazz and fusion players
-
Pick and fingerstyle bassists
-
Players who prefer passive electronics
-
Musicians who value a narrow Jazz Bass neck
-
Bassists wanting an American-made Fender without moving to active Ultra electronics

Suitable Genres And Playing Styles
The Jazz Bass has always been one of the most adaptable electric bass designs, and the American Professional II continues that tradition.
With both pickups balanced, you get the articulate, defined character that works across pop, rock, indie, funk and general session work. Increasing the neck-position pickup contribution brings additional warmth and low-end body, while favouring the bridge pickup introduces more focused midrange definition.
The bass responds equally well to fingerstyle and pick playing, while its clarity makes it a strong platform for effects, compression and more complex pedalboard setups.
How Do The Two Jazz Bass Volume Controls Change Your Sound?
Instead of using a pickup selector, the Jazz Bass gives each pickup its own Volume control. This means you can continuously change the balance between the two pickups rather than simply choosing one or the other.
Running both pickups together gives the familiar balanced J Bass sound. Favour the neck-position pickup for more warmth and fundamental weight, or introduce more of the bridge pickup when you want definition and midrange presence. Small changes to the pickup balance can make a significant difference to how the bass sits in a band mix.
Compatibility & Recommended Pairings
The American Professional II Jazz Bass uses conventional passive electronics, so it integrates easily into virtually any bass setup.
It pairs particularly well with:
-
Bass combo amplifiers
-
Bass heads and cabinets
-
DI boxes
-
Bass preamps
-
Compressor pedals
-
Overdrive and distortion
-
Chorus and modulation
-
Octave effects
-
Envelope filters
-
Multi-effects processors
-
Audio interfaces
-
Recording preamps
-
Pedalboards
For studio work, its passive dual-pickup design also makes it straightforward to record directly through a suitable DI or audio interface.
Story & Context
Fender introduced the Jazz Bass in 1960 as a more upmarket companion to the Precision Bass. Its offset body drew visual influence from the Jazzmaster, while its narrower neck and two-pickup electronics gave bassists a distinctly different playing and tonal experience.
The design quickly expanded far beyond its original jazz-oriented positioning. Its combination of clarity, pickup blending and comfortable neck proportions helped the Jazz Bass establish itself across rock, funk, soul, pop, fusion and countless other styles.
Fender launched the American Professional II Series in October 2020 as the second generation of its flagship professional guitar and bass family. Rather than replacing the traditional Jazz Bass formula, the range concentrated on practical working-player refinements including rolled fingerboard edges, revised pickups, improved upper-fret access and strengthened neck construction.
The result is a bass that still operates like a familiar passive Jazz Bass but feels designed around the realities of modern professional playing.

Fair Deal Music Verdict
★★★★★ 5/5
The Fender American Professional II Jazz Bass in Miami Blue is exactly what a professional passive Jazz Bass should be: familiar enough to feel immediately intuitive, but refined in the areas that matter after hours of rehearsing, recording and performing.
The V-Mod II pickups retain the flexibility that makes a J Bass such a useful instrument, while the rolled rosewood fingerboard, sculpted heel, Posiflex reinforcement and HiMass bridge add meaningful improvements without changing the fundamental character of the bass.
Best suited for: Gigging professionals, session players, experienced bassists and musicians looking for a premium passive American Jazz Bass.
Customers usually upgrade from: Fender Player and Player II Jazz Basses, Squier Classic Vibe models and other intermediate J-style basses.
Most commonly paired with: Quality bass amplification, compression, DI boxes, bass preamps and studio recording equipment.
Our tip: Don't automatically run both pickup Volume controls fully open. Small changes in the pickup balance can move the sound from broad and balanced to warm and rounded or tight and articulate without requiring any amplifier EQ changes.
Showroom feedback: The Slim “C” neck and rolled rosewood fingerboard are key strengths of the American Professional II. It feels recognisably like a Jazz Bass but has the comfortable, polished feel you would expect when stepping into Fender's American professional range.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the American Professional II Jazz Bass active or passive?
It is a passive Jazz Bass. There is no onboard preamp or battery, keeping the control layout traditional and straightforward.
Are the V-Mod II Jazz Bass pickups noiseless?
No. They are traditional-style single-coil Jazz Bass pickups rather than Fender's Noiseless design. Players wanting noiseless pickups and active electronics should consider the American Ultra II Jazz Bass.
Is the Slim “C” neck suitable for players with smaller hands?
The Jazz Bass already uses a relatively narrow 1.5" nut, and the Slim “C” profile is designed for fast, comfortable playing. It can be particularly appealing to players who find broader bass necks cumbersome.
What is the advantage of the HiMass Vintage bridge?
The HiMass Vintage bridge provides a substantial and highly adjustable platform while also giving you the choice of top-loading or string-through-body installation.
What is the benefit of Posiflex graphite rods?
The graphite rods reinforce the neck and improve stability as the instrument experiences environmental changes, which can be particularly useful for basses that travel regularly between gigs, studios and rehearsal spaces.
Can the American Professional II Jazz Bass be used for slap bass?
Yes. The Jazz Bass pickup arrangement provides plenty of clarity and attack for slap techniques, while the pickup balance and Tone control allow you to fine-tune the sound to suit your amp and playing style.
Is the American Professional II suitable for recording?
Yes. Its passive electronics and two independently adjustable pickups provide a broad range of usable sounds before you reach for EQ or processing, making it particularly flexible for studio work.
Should I choose this or the American Ultra II Jazz Bass?
Choose the American Professional II if you prefer traditional passive electronics, conventional single-coil pickup character and a familiar Jazz Bass control layout.
Choose the American Ultra II if active EQ, Noiseless pickups, compound-radius playability and a larger range of onboard tone shaping are priorities.
Should I choose a Jazz Bass or Precision Bass for rock?
Both work extremely well. Choose the Jazz Bass if you want more control over pickup blend and a narrower neck. Choose a Precision Bass if you prefer a simpler single-pickup layout and a more direct fundamental bass sound.
Is a hard case included?
Yes. The American Professional II Jazz Bass is supplied with a Fender Deluxe Molded Case for protection during transport and storage.
