Fair Deal Quality Control Assessment
Every new bass sold through Fair Deal Music is checked before leaving us, helping ensure the instrument is ready for its new owner.
Our team checks the essential playing and functional areas of the instrument, including the electronics, controls, hardware and general setup.
As with any guitar or bass, setup can shift slightly during transport because wood naturally responds to changes in temperature and humidity. If you need advice on action, neck relief, strings or general bass setup after delivery, our experienced team is happy to help.
Why Choose The Squier Classic Vibe '60s Jazz Bass?
Fender-Designed Alnico Pickups
Two Fender-Designed alnico single-coil pickups give this Classic Vibe the flexible passive sound associated with the Jazz Bass format. Blend both pickups for a balanced, articulate tone, favour the neck pickup for greater warmth or bring up the bridge pickup for extra definition and midrange character.
Slim Jazz Bass Neck Feel
The combination of a “C”-shape maple neck and 1.5-inch nut width gives the Jazz Bass its distinctive feel. The relatively narrow nut is particularly appealing to bassists who like a fast fretting-hand response or players moving across from electric guitar.
Classic 34-Inch Scale
The full 34-inch scale length provides the familiar tension, response and playing proportions of a conventional long-scale Jazz Bass, making it equally suitable for first-time bassists and experienced players wanting an affordable traditional J-style instrument.
Limited Edition Burgundy Mist Styling
This version stands apart with its Burgundy Mist body, matching headstock, tortoiseshell pickguard and black pickup covers. It has a more individual appearance than a conventional sunburst or black Jazz Bass while retaining the instantly recognisable Fender-inspired silhouette.
Vintage-Inspired Hardware
Vintage-style tuning machines and a four-saddle bridge with threaded steel saddles reinforce the Classic Vibe concept, combining retro appearance with the individual string adjustment needed for an accurate setup.

Comparison Against Popular Alternatives
Classic Vibe '60s Jazz Bass vs Squier Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass
Both models offer the versatility of dual Fender-Designed alnico Jazz Bass pickups and sit within Squier's vintage-inspired Classic Vibe range, but their visual character reflects different Fender eras.
The '60s model uses an Indian laurel fingerboard and this limited edition adds Burgundy Mist with a matching headstock and tortoiseshell guard. The Classic Vibe '70s Jazz Bass moves towards the more distinctive 1970s aesthetic, with maple fingerboards and block-style detailing on key versions. Choose primarily according to the period styling and fingerboard feel you prefer.
Classic Vibe '60s Jazz Bass vs Squier Affinity Jazz Bass
The Affinity Jazz Bass is a more affordable gateway into the J Bass format and makes sense for players working to a tighter first-instrument budget. Its ceramic pickups and simpler positioning place it below the Classic Vibe range.
The Classic Vibe is the stronger choice for players who want Fender-Designed alnico pickups, vintage-style hardware and more detailed period-inspired styling, making it particularly attractive as an instrument to keep as your playing progresses.
Classic Vibe '60s Jazz Bass vs Fender Player II Jazz Bass
The Fender Player II Jazz Bass represents a significant step up in price and moves into Fender's Mexican-made range. It combines Player Series Alnico V pickups with a Modern “C” neck, rolled fingerboard edges and medium-jumbo frets for a more contemporary professional specification.
Choose the Player II if owning a Fender-branded instrument and gaining those modern refinements are priorities. The Classic Vibe remains a particularly strong-value option when you want the fundamental passive Jazz Bass formula and vintage-inspired character at a much more accessible level.
Classic Vibe '60s Jazz Bass vs Precision Bass
The biggest difference is not quality but design philosophy. A traditional Precision Bass uses a split-coil pickup and simple volume/tone controls for an immediate, focused bass sound.
The Jazz Bass gives you two separate pickups with independent volume controls, providing more scope for blending sounds. Choose the Classic Vibe Jazz Bass if tonal flexibility and the narrower Jazz neck feel appeal to you; choose a Precision-style bass if you prefer maximum simplicity and a strong central bass voice.
Who Is The Squier Classic Vibe '60s Jazz Bass For?
The Classic Vibe '60s Jazz Bass occupies a useful position between entry-level instruments and significantly more expensive Fender models.
It is particularly well suited to:
-
Beginners wanting a first bass they can grow into
-
Intermediate bassists upgrading from an entry-level instrument
-
Guitarists adding bass to a home studio
-
Players who prefer a relatively narrow bass neck
-
Bassists wanting traditional passive electronics
-
Rock and indie players
-
Funk and soul bassists
-
Blues and roots musicians
-
Pop and alternative players
-
Home recording musicians
-
Experienced bassists wanting a practical second instrument
-

Suitable Genres And Playing Styles
The Jazz Bass design is popular partly because its two-pickup layout adapts easily to different styles.
With both pickups balanced, the Classic Vibe offers a clear, defined bass sound suited to pop, rock, indie and general-purpose playing. Increasing the contribution of the neck pickup moves towards a rounder response that works well for blues, soul and warmer fingerstyle parts.
Favouring the bridge pickup introduces additional definition and a more pronounced midrange character, making it useful for articulate fingerstyle lines, funkier passages and parts that need to remain clearly audible within a busy arrangement.
The bass can be played with fingers or a pick, and its traditional passive electronics also make it an uncomplicated platform for pedals, amplifiers, recording equipment and different playing techniques.
What Makes A Jazz Bass Different From A Precision Bass?
The Jazz Bass and Precision Bass are closely related Fender designs, but they offer noticeably different experiences.
A conventional Precision Bass centres on one split-coil pickup and a slightly broader-feeling neck. Its strength is simplicity: plug in, set the tone control and you have a strong fundamental bass sound that works in almost any mix.
A Jazz Bass uses two separate single-coil pickups and a narrower nut width. The independent pickup volumes allow you to change the balance between the warmer neck pickup and the more focused bridge pickup. That makes the Jazz Bass particularly useful for players who enjoy adjusting their sound from the instrument rather than relying entirely on amplifier EQ.
Neither format is universally better. If you favour simplicity and punch, consider a Precision Bass. If you value tonal blending, articulation and a narrower neck, the Jazz Bass is an excellent direction.
Compatibility & Recommended Pairings
The Classic Vibe '60s Jazz Bass uses standard passive bass electronics and integrates easily into conventional bass rigs.
It pairs particularly well with:
-
Bass combo amplifiers
-
Bass heads and cabinets
-
Bass preamps
-
Compressor pedals
-
Overdrive and distortion pedals
-
Chorus and modulation effects
-
Bass multi-effects processors
-
DI boxes
-
Audio interfaces
-
Recording equipment
-
Headphone practice systems
For a first complete bass setup, a suitable bass amplifier, instrument cable, tuner and strap are sensible additions.
Always use an amplifier or speaker system intended to handle bass frequencies rather than relying on a conventional guitar amplifier for normal bass use.
Story & Context
The Fender Jazz Bass was introduced in 1960, following the Precision Bass and giving bassists a distinctly different option within Fender's expanding electric instrument range.
Its offset body shape, narrower neck and dual-pickup electronics differentiated it from the Precision Bass. The separate pickup volume controls allowed musicians to blend two pickup positions and explore a broader range of tones directly from the instrument.
That combination of comfort and versatility helped the Jazz Bass become one of the foundational electric bass designs, with its influence extending far beyond any one style of music.
The Squier Classic Vibe '60s Jazz Bass takes inspiration from that formative era while incorporating approachable modern details such as a 9.5-inch fingerboard radius and narrow-tall frets. This limited-edition Burgundy Mist version adds a matching headstock and distinctive finish without changing the straightforward passive J Bass formula at the heart of the instrument.

Fair Deal Music Verdict 🎵
★★★★★ 5/5
The Squier Limited Edition Classic Vibe '60s Jazz Bass in Burgundy Mist combines exactly the qualities that make the Classic Vibe range so appealing: traditional design, sensible modern playability, Fender-Designed alnico pickups and styling with considerably more personality than a basic entry-level bass.
The Burgundy Mist finish and matching headstock make this particular edition especially attractive, but underneath the limited-edition appearance is a highly practical passive Jazz Bass that can cover a wide range of music.
Best suited for: Beginners wanting a serious first bass, intermediate players, guitarists adding a bass to their collection and anyone looking for classic passive J Bass versatility.
Customers usually upgrade from: Starter bass packages, entry-level Squier models and other introductory bass guitars.
Most commonly paired with: Bass combo amplifiers, compressors, overdrive pedals, DI boxes and audio interfaces.
Our tip: Experiment with the two pickup volume controls rather than automatically leaving both on full. Small changes to the neck-to-bridge balance can noticeably alter the attack, warmth and definition of a Jazz Bass.
Showroom feedback: The slim neck and simple passive controls make the Jazz Bass format particularly approachable, while the Classic Vibe specification gives players enough quality and character to make it a genuinely long-term instrument rather than simply a beginner bass.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Squier Classic Vibe '60s Jazz Bass good for beginners?
Yes. The slim “C”-shape neck and narrow 1.5" nut make the Jazz Bass format particularly approachable, while the Classic Vibe specification provides enough quality and tonal flexibility to remain useful as your playing develops.
Is the Classic Vibe Jazz Bass full scale?
Yes. It uses a conventional 34-inch long scale, giving it the familiar tension and response associated with a traditional Jazz Bass.
What do the two volume controls do?
Each pickup has its own volume control. This means you can independently adjust the neck and bridge pickups and blend them together in different proportions rather than simply selecting one with a pickup switch.
What sound does the bridge pickup give on a Jazz Bass?
The bridge pickup generally offers greater definition and a more focused midrange character than the neck pickup. It is useful when you want bass lines to have extra articulation or presence.
Is this bass suitable for playing with a pick?
Yes. A Jazz Bass works equally well with fingerstyle or a pick. Using a pick can emphasise attack and definition, which makes the format especially useful for rock, punk, indie and alternative styles.
Can I use effects pedals with this bass?
Yes. Its standard passive output works with bass effects including compressors, overdrive, distortion, chorus, octave and multi-effects systems. Many guitar pedals can also work creatively with bass, although bass-specific effects are designed to retain low-frequency response.
Is the Classic Vibe range better than the Affinity range?
The Classic Vibe range sits above Affinity within Squier's line-up and places greater emphasis on vintage-inspired styling and specification. This model's Fender-Designed alnico pickups and vintage-style hardware make it the stronger choice for players looking beyond an entry-level instrument.
Is this Jazz Bass active or passive?
It is a passive Jazz Bass. There is no onboard active preamp and no battery is required, resulting in a simple traditional control layout.
Is a Jazz Bass suitable for recording?
Yes. The two-pickup design is particularly useful in a studio because you can adjust the pickup blend to change the amount of warmth, definition and attack before touching amplifier or recording EQ.
Should I buy a Jazz Bass or Precision Bass as my first bass?
Both are excellent choices. The Jazz Bass is particularly appealing if you prefer a narrower neck and want to blend two different pickup positions. A Precision Bass is better suited to players who prioritise a simpler control layout and a more singular, direct bass sound.
Fair Deal Music Expert Recommendation
The Squier Limited Edition Classic Vibe '60s Jazz Bass in Burgundy Mist is an excellent option for anyone who wants the classic Jazz Bass experience without making the immediate jump to a Fender.
Its real strength is that nothing about the design is unnecessarily complicated. The passive electronics are intuitive, the narrow neck is comfortable and the twin pickups provide enough tonal variation to make the bass useful across a very broad range of music.
Combine that practicality with the Burgundy Mist finish, tortoiseshell pickguard and matching headstock, and this limited edition also offers something visually distinctive within the Classic Vibe range.
